It's like Groundhog Day round here sometimes.

"You're like a broken record" is a common phrase that has been in regular use for fifty plus years, with a widely accepted meaning of "someone that repeats the same thing over and over again". HTH.
-
Passed backwards and forwards depending on who won last, you'd think. The actually real Brian Clough Trophy is like that between Forest and Derby. True story.
-
There are other goalkeepers in the world than someone playing in the Turkish second tier.
-
Mainly what it was was the usual forum routine of forum intelligentsia giving it "there no other candidate better than Russell Martin" and sneering at any other suggestion. Whereas if we'd recruited someone else that manager would become the "there is no other candidate" person and the exact same people would be sneering at anyone suggesting Russell Martin instead.
-
What "summer" was this then? The club approached Martin and Swansea etc in mid May, a couple of weeks before the season ended, Selles still in role. You seem to be making up a phase with lots of speculation and names flying about but sorry, that didn't happen. It was Martin before the relegation season had even finished at the end of May.
-
It might not feel like it right now but we are perfectly capable of going to Carrow Road or The Hawthorns and winning 2-1. At that point the whole season flips again and we all get to believe. Look, this is me being optimistic.
-
Why are you pretending that you are the only person that understands that Wilcox appointed Martin to get us promoted? Er, well, yeah. Of course he did. Of course he believed it. Thanks for the guidance.

I'm not sure that "football club hires manager that they think will do well for them" is quite the killer insight you think it is. The point is Nigel Adkins had a track record of delivering exactly the success that was required, while Russell Martin achieved fuck all anywhere at all.
-
In that case he hired Pardew for the same reason but fucked him off pretty quick. Cortese would have sacked Adkins within three months if we weren't in contention for promotion. Objective one was promotion to L1 and Cortese got a guy who'd done just that. Russell Martin has never done anything.
-
Just remind me of the calibre of teams we have been playing this season compared to the ones "since 2017/8", remind me of the resources we have in this league compared to the other teams in this division and compare that with how it was "since 2017/8". Having a shit season in the Premier League under bloody Pellegrini and Hughes does not give Martin some get out of jail free card to concede the same number of goals as he did at Swansea with a far better resourced club and team. No fucking way.
-
Why did they bother doing a lap of appreciation when everyone knows that it isn't the last home game of the season?
-
I think we hired Adkins because he'd been promoted from L1 twice, so he was a good fit for a team trying to be promoted from L1. Martin has been promoted nowhere ever.
-
We have really sent out a message to our play-off rivals today and no mistake.
-
That's nice, dear.
-
-
That's precisely the team I would have picked.
-
Whaaaaaaaaa?
-
Just putting "Piroe" into Twitter and the collective opinion is pretty clear. Who knows, may have been a better fit for us but I no one can say our failure to get automatic promotion is because we didn't sign Joel Piroe. Matt Grimes, though.....

A manager who has promoted a small team to the German top flight, managed another to second and sixth in the top flight, managed in the Champions League, and then three successful seasons steering Saints to (best) mid table and (at worst) comfortable safety each time. Versus a guy who has scraped MK Dons to 13th in L1 and Swansea to 10th. It's a real head scratcher if Ralph could do better.

Leeds have absolutely tremendous mental fortitude. So strong, so brave.

I wish we were Leeds.

Exactly this. He won't be sacked. Quite frankly he doesn't deserve to be sacked. With Wilcox gone and the chaos of three managers last season, they will want the continuity. That doesn't mean I think he will get us promoted next season. He won't. We'll leak 1.4 goals a game (60+) and score less therefore lose more. Will probably be sacked by Bonfire Night. But, he is genuine hard working guy who comes across well.
-
Another way 22/23 Swansea - 64 goals conceded - 1.39 goals per game 23/24 Southampton - 61 in 44 - 1.386 per game. No "outliers" - he cannot coach a defence, even when that defense has proven experience and class at this level and higher.
