If today's Russell Martin had taken over from Koeman with those defensive options and his defensive managerial ability we wouldn't be finishing eighth and getting to a cup final. We'd be bottom three all day long. But yeah, we'd have been like so much more "entertaining".

Comparing Martin to Selles is a particularly snidey comparison. He was a glorified caretaker for a club that was doomed by the time he had to step up. Martin was specifically appointed to get us promoted this season. He wasn't recruited to be a bit better than Ruben Selles.

I think the point is that Nathan Jones is a manager who has actually delivered for teams in the two divisions he has managed in. He's a brilliant bet for a play off place or promotion. Whereas Russell Martin has delivered fuck all at both other clubs he managed, with a pitiful goals against record in both clubs. He's a nothing manager currently on track to deliver nothing much for us too. You have grudgingly granted NJ with a "decent enough" achievement. But we're all waiting for anything that Martin has ever done anywhere in his entire career that is "decent enough".

Indeed - broadly speaking we were 11 points behind Leicester at the beginning of October and we were still 11 points behind them 20+ games later during the days of those people twatting on about Leeds (who we were 1 point behind) beating Leicester to help our own triumphant charge to the League title.
