I remember when I was a (not very good) Sunday league player. Regularly being named as a substitute, I had the "pleasure" of being linesman and the abuse I got was ridiculous (both from the opposition and my fellow teammates!). One game was so bad that this bunch of thugs wanted to beat the living hell out of me after the game because I had the audacity to flag one of them offside, which they clearly where, despite them being about 8-0 up at the time. I ended up having to run into a shop and hide behind the counter whilst the owner phoned the Police. In summary, I don't know whether to admire refs or think they are utterly bonkers as there are absolute animals out there masquerading as footballers.

There’ll be dancing in the streets of Southampton tonight if it stays that way as we rejoice at avoiding a complete humping.

Just seen the highlights and lost for words (almost) at that defending. JWP and Mara for the first - Might as well have been stood on the halfway line. No idea why they were marking the biggest guy in their team. Caleta-Car - I know it was his debut, but poor for both goals and will need to improve massively on that showing. Bad miss at the end too! A very good chance we'll be in the bottom three after the Man City game (probably with a terrible goal difference). Bad times.

Only we can get through a tough run of opening fixtures in positive spirits and then get fuck all from a run of “winnable” games.

Totally understand the reason to postpone top flight games. Bottom line is that the Premier League is broadcast around the world and they’ve obviously taken the view that going ahead wouldn’t be an appropriate reflection of the current state of national mourning. There was probably an argument for carrying on with lower league games but nevertheless it’s hardly a surprise they made the same decision.
