Southampton 0-1 Leicester - Match Thread

Didn’t bother tuning in as had this feeling we’d be abject. Nevertheless, doesn’t mean I’m any less disappointed than those who watched it. 0 shots on target? FFS! -

Well despite the debacle on Monday, I'm still carrying some hope (if not expectation) into this game. I think all we really want is to see a fully committed display and one hopes the absence of a notable crowd won't impact that. They could do well to watch highlights of the Watford semi-final from 2003. The current squad is way more talented than that one, in my opinion, but the sheer effort put in by every man that day, for the whole game, should be used as the benchmark for what we expect to see on Sunday. I don't think that's unreasonable really... -
That's a bit like saying that Macauley Culkin has proven himself to be a top child actor and could still do a job now 😃

Saving ourselves for a storming win against Leicester clearly

The good old days where a goal scored was a definite goal scored pretty much straight-away. Imagine that goal today, those wild celebrations only for it then being ruled out a few minutes later because Matt Le Tiss's nose was offside or something.

That hat-trick, one of my happiest memories of being at a game. Lovely sunny day, absolute scenes, and then Long scoring a worldy too!

I’m starting to get to the age where I probably look a bit dumb wearing a replica shirt, but do love the retro ones. I live in Exeter so may have frequented said bar myself!

Definite present for the Saints fan who has everything (and likes Gin) 😃

"In collaboration with Hampshire's Winchester Distillery, we have created a limited edition bespoke gin with carefully sourced botanicals including grass from the St Mary's Stadium pitch"

Jannik Vestergaard - Official: Signs for Leicester
Sunglasses Ron replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
Agreed! Really like JV, and very much hope he stays put, but of all the players we would have lost, I wouldn't have any hard feelings towards him if he did go. Some of the stick he received from our fan base prior to this season was savage so we'd have no right to play the 'loyalty' card. -
Retro shirts, but sadly without the retro prices. Looks like they've lumped another £10 on the price of them compared to the last set!
-
I'd happily have him on a 12-month contract. Even if he might not be in my starting 11 he would make our bench look a lot stronger than it has been of late. I also don't think you can put a value on his experience, plus he seems a good role model to have around the place.

Total Saints Podcast - Season 2020/21

A good listen as always, the pod always helps me through the first day of the working week! 😃 -
All of a sudden, we're in a great position. Most players now back from injury, still need a few more wins to guarantee safety and everyone competing for the cup game. Seems like a perfect mix to me. I'm starting to fancy our chances against Leicester 😮

Yup, I expect we'll all remember which sofa we were on when we won the cup of '21 though 😃

Very happy memories of sitting there watching Saints 4-0 up on my birthday thinking this was the start of our upward trajectory. Carlisle fans that I met on the day were all really decent. Must have been quite daunting for them seeing so many Saints supporters there (so much so that I think us winning seemed inevitable). Hopefully in 10 years time we'll be looking back on our 2021 FA Cup triumph 🙂

@Fan The Flames @Micky @skintsaint Glad you guys like my concept design 😂 Think I'll stick to the day job 😎

Thought he was excellent last night, probably Man of the Match. He showcased his remarkable consistency with set pieces and crossing, which in fairness, it probably doesn't matter who the opposition are. I'm sure Southgate knows already whether he's going to make the squad.

Good practice for the big one next month 🙂

Agreed, not to my liking as a Saints shirt either. For several years I've had this vision of a combined sash and stripes home kit. In my head, it's a thing of immense beauty, but would probably look like a reconfigured version of the Dimplex kit in reality (which I know many have never liked).

@BERMUDASAINTwell I'm glad someone sort of understands where I'm coming from 🙂 @hypochondriacI really do appreciate your point-of-view and I said earlier that my views were probably a bit apathetic. Last post from me on this subject, and I don't know your age, but if we won the cup in say 1992 and then got relegated the same season, I imagine Le Tissier would have left and we may still be playing at The Dell (a romantic thought, but not at all practical). I value Le Tissier's legacy as much as any trophy we could have won over the years. I'm not trying to change your opinion by the way, more attempting to rationalise mine. -

I didn't say no financial risk, because that will probably always be the case. But at this time, and in our current position, I think relegation would a be a bit of a disaster for us. Like I said earlier though, I respect your view, but it's not one that I share (not that it matters, as we will never actually be able to choose such an outcome anyway). If that makes me mental in your eyes then so be it. One thing we share in common though is that we both want to win this bloody cup! -

I guess my answer would change when dropping out of the top flight carried less of a risk than it does at present. We nearly became extinct the last time it happened and I'm not sure we're in any better position to deal with it now than we were back in 2005. -

@SKD Trophies are a huge part of what represents success to me and, let's be honest, we should have won more over the years. But in the absence of that, being a long-standing top flight club with an excellent track record of developing players is not to be sniffed at IMO. We also hold several Premier League records (good and bad) and have had some generally great moments over the years. In short, I think we've contributed a lot to English top flight football and are generally respected for it. @hypochondriac I want us to win something now, I just wouldn't exchange it for relegation if hypothetically offered. I know this comes across as apathetic, but maybe that's the product of 30 years of not winning anything and having suitably low expectations as a result!
