I agree Norm, and Derek Reeves too. But I can only nominate one player, so Stevie it was for me. -
Saints Greatest XI - Nominations For Best left Side Striker
St Landrew replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Only one bloke left for this team - Ron Davies. But he's been nominated enough. He needs a stalking horse [that's what they call them, isn't it..?] Big Chiv is already there, so we'll make it Steve Moran. Remember. one nomination only, and if you mention more, then it'll be the first one, or the one you want really selected for the final vote. -
Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll
St Landrew replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Well that's this particular poll finished. Kevin Keegan joins the B-Team attack. All other strikers, not assigned to either team are up for grabs. Here are the line-ups so far: For the A-Team -------------------Shilton--------------------- Golac-------Wright--------Svensson-----Bridge Paine---------Ball---------Le Tissier---Armstrong ------------Channon-----------?---------------- and the B Team ----------------------Niemi---------------------- Dodd------Lundekvam------Watson---------Dennis D.Wallace----Williams---------Case--------Marsden --------------Keegan-----------?------------------ And now onto the nominations for the A-Team Left-sided striker. -
He may not be our old defender, but where actions do not occur, words will have to do: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/2008/12/powell_loving_his_last_hurrah.html#051971 See any similarities..?

Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll

Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll
St Landrew replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Well I'll tell you why I ran the B-Team selection first. For 2 reasons: 1] All through the team selection procedure, however we've done it, we've always resolved both A and B teams positions before moving on to the next place. 2] If I had resolved the A team's placings before the B team, the amount of interest would have died, because everyone wants to vote for who is the best. But lots don't care who come second. So tough titty. -
Thanks Steve & DSM, for the effort. Could be neither, could be both. I might even bother to find a photo. And thank you Pancake for making me regret putting that there was a small bulge at the tip. I knew it would attract comment, yet there was no other way to describe it. I must admit it does look like a huge long nipple. Btw, I see MB excelled himself again. My sides have just split. :smt012

Anybody know what someone has handed to me..? It's a small 3" high, pale, tapered rubber aerial with a tiny bulge at the tip. It has a moulded 1.5" base with a 0.5m lead protruding from it, which I think, could be fibre-optic. The lead end has a gold plated plug on it, similar to an old standard SKY box cable connector, only it's a mini size. What would you plug this into..?

Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll

Sorry, my whole post was undermined by my writing should, instead of shouldn't. Please read it again. -
How would this side have faired in the prem?
St Landrew replied to Frank's cousin's topic in The Saints
Nice thought. I think they'd do quite well. Let's assume for a moment that the youngsters here haven't been thrown in at the deep end, but have forced their way through on quality, then I'm sure what they lack in experience would be made up for by the unbounded confidence Strachan would ensure they have, and the experience and brilliance of an uninjured Michael Svensson. Btw the way, for me, the back line should go Baird, Crainie, Svensson, Bale. And I would dovetail Bale and Bridge, as I'm sure you would too. I'd also swap the midfield around as Wallcott, Lallana, Surman, Bridge. Nice team. EDIT: Strachan had a supposed bad hip. -
Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll

Then a quick explanation for you, just in case you're not on your usual wind up. And for others who still might not get it. We have 2 teams. The A-Team, and the B-Team. The A-Team players are the apex of Saints. They are the very best Saints players that people can remember. The B-Team [backup] is for those players who were a gnat's wotsit behind the very best, in terms of quality. However, what this means is, that in many people's eyes, players like Ron Davies are considered so good that they shouldn't be in the B-Team, and so some posters are advising others not to vote for him this time. Therefore, I've no doubt, that if Kevin Keegan, or someone else wins this B-Team slot, Ron will run away with next week's A-Team's left side striker vote. Now that couldn't be simpler. -
Not at all. There's no doubt his smugness has reached rarified heights, nowadays. I reckon it's due to his complete contentment that despite totally lacking any semblance of talent, he has managed to carve out a career giving him a lifestyle few of us could aspire to.

Time for some good old fashioned name dropping
St Landrew replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
I made it a sticky because I wanted everyone to have every chance to tell a Saints story. What better way for that to happen than to make it a sticky. Don't worry, it won't be one forever. But even if it was, what complaint could anyone have..? Surely anyone here would be a **** of the largest proportions if they didn't want to read Saints stories..? -

Duncan. Is Kevin Moore's condition known to the PFA..? We may have got involved with Ron, but we also know nothing could be simpler than to alert the PFA to KM's plight, if they are not aware of it. -

Nice story. And perhaps something to help ordinary people to keep a bit of perspective. Most people, who are interested in your welfare, are not necessarily out to get you. -
Now, now, settle down. Many of us grew up with Fred, Bunty James, Jon Miller, and Jack Hargreaves, with the original HOW..? I'd come home from school and shortly after, How? would be on. Fred would do the jokey How's and Bunty would do the girly ones. Jon would do the techy ones, and Jack would do the historic ones. Hence this one - how to get the ship in a bottle. We all know how it's done, but as a kid in the 1960's, I didn't: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zS1-aoUNBbE

Just catching a bit of this. Southend scored as, I noticed, Chelsea were marking space. I have never been convinced of zonal marking unless the the defence are right on their toes. I doesn't give an advantage, if the attacking team are no mugs. From a cross, or a dead ball situation, the attacking team have so much more ability to attack the ball, it almost makes zonal marking unplayable. Perhaps Chelsea will win in the end, once they've worked out Southend, and exploited the gaps at the back. But fair play to Southend, by doing what a good English teams does, which is to get in the opposition's face; never let them settle on the ball; and defend like your life depends upon it. And we know now that they can attack too. Hopefully, Chelsea still don't. Still 1-0. Good match too.

I think this thread has had its day. Defoe is a Spuds player. Goodnight.

I've always thought there was a much better player in Leandre Griffit than we saw at St Marys. He's just the right size, with a really good amount of technical skill and pace. When he scored against... Blackburn Rovers [i'm not 100% sure..?], I thought, here we go. He's breaking through, and we saw him run away to the bench, with the players running after him. It was good times, and Griffit was going to do well for Saints. Then nothing..! I'd take him back, in a heartbeat. Get him ultra fit and working hard on that potential before he becomes just another player who promised much and delivered sod all. He's the sort of player JP or even Glenn Hoddle could really help.
