53 from Southampton living in Doha. First game in 67 v west ham was 0 0 but still went back. First away game spurs as a kid and remember punch up on coach on way home....thank goodness we don't squabble amongst our selves any more

Don't worry everybody we will have some divine intervention from our referee today .....a mister T Bates .

I think that our biggest rivals for automatic is Blackpool. They have a good squad and can keep going. They also seem to have had their bad spell whereas Cardiff haven't yet and have smaller squad. I think Birmingham just don't quite have it this year although will have some real purple spells when confidence is high (hope I dont have to eat my words there. Key for me is also who can keep squad fit and free of suspension, we can beat everyone with fully fit and available squad.

I agree with Dave we need some good thrust up the front -
Good sentiment. Sadly I think it is the same in the stadium these days. Banter seems to have been replaced by anger (and I mean between our own fans) and the atmosphere is incredibly different from when I first started watching.

ww need to just hold and pass and make them chase this. If we do this chances will come

what a great read. You know these things have been happening in the background but still good when you see it all written down. Would be great now to see these players stay with us and get the real benefit of this system on the pitch rather than through additional funding by selling these players.

I am not sure that anybody would refuse to talk to us or deal with us. They may walk away because the deal doesn't suit them. Cortese clearly doesn't get emotionally involved in any deal, so that makes it easier for him to just keep driving it on the "this is the deal we want tack" which will work for some but not others. I think we are making good progress and would much rather go this route than the citee route after all it feels so much better winning after a period of struggling I am sure nigel knows what he is doing and am sure that something will get worked out

cant help thinking our goal difference is going to be key in the end

Take Brighton out of the equation, they have this league sown up now (i believe) and show no signs of pressure. All the other teams in the mix are showing signs of pressure, it's not going to be smooth like we would like, but i do believe we will get over the line into 2nd place as we have just a bit more overall than the teams around us

A critical appraisal of the first quarter of the season.
saint michael replied to 1976_Child's topic in The Saints
we are clearly not the worst team in this league or the best, so should expect good and bad runs as we have been having. The question of what we can do about it and how quickly we can get there is the interesting one for me. Can we improve by training and organising the players we have... yes we can. Can we improve the team by buying in...yes we can. Both will however take time. I think we rae lucky to be so close to and staying in there at the moment. The thing that worries me most is the strength of character both mental and physical to get hold of a tough game like yesterday and control it or at least let them know that they are in a game. I am not talking here about being technically better and out passing poor sides. -
good post mate, I remember it well

I liked his comments about how to play with the ball and without, our team only thinks about playing with the ball hence we get caught out a lot. secondly let's start moving and passing to each other and not wait to be passed to before we move. thirdly, let's be brave in front of goal and shoot sometimes fourthly, lets not behave like chickens with heads cut off when in the final third good luck nigel,
