How many tactical mistakes is Adkins allowed? (Part 2)
saint michael replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
It's a great question who would you pick and who would you be excited about as a replacement for Adkins if he did go? It's quite easy to say let's make a change then you start seeing the flaws of all the replacements. I would far rather see somebody with real premiership defensive coaching ability come in and support Adkins cos then we could see whether we could get this lot going first without making the drastic managerial change. The result may also be quicker. The question then becomes who has the premiership defensive coaching talent that could make a difference -

what happened to the 7 that didn't? -
I am in for giving somebody more time to learn and recognise mistakes are part of the learning, but keeping everything the same and expecting a different result is teh definition of madness. Changing players but keeping the same system or the same coaching is "hoping" things will change Defensive coaching and organisation is a real skill this, is what we need, I think we could have great players in defence at the moment and results wouldnt be a lot different without changing what we are doing in the defensive structure

Who on here booed Guly when he came on Sunday?

Do you think this board is representative of our fan base? The hatred for players and each other I find just incredible. Adkins talks about all as one, I don't think I have ever seen us less as one -
defence is sitting deep and gap between them and attack is big and midfield not coping too great a task for them so it will start going lng over their heads. Sign of low confidence and very similar to last season in prem. They have to believe and close up.... come on Nige over to you

pointing out deficiencies doesn't necessary make you negative. Observing where we are weak and strong is needed to improve. I am positive but concerened, not that we have no points yet, but the team weaknesses will not suddenly imporve because we are playing so called lesser teams.....what did you make of the Wigan game? we had better learn and learn quickly including our Nige or will face the inevitable

Arsenal 6 - 1 Saints - Post Match Reaction

There are really two options, buy a team with prem exprience, or let them get it. We not only have a team lacking prem experience but a manager who is learning too. The question is how quickly are they going to learn, are they going to be good enough and what can we do now to make a difference. It is quite confusing because I think the squad looks delicate and at times men versus boys, and for short spells looks capable but never giving you confidence it can last. I would sign Craig Gordon or put Gazza in, not sure it can be more risky than leaving him in and watching the games disappear. I think Adkins was tough on Hammond and needs to be tough on Kelvin. Being an ex keeper probably isnt helping us here. Defence we can do little about until Jan now. I thought Yoshida did ok and looks good prospect, all others including Clyne looks shaky. I think team will target Clyne as indeed we did last year. Midfield, if it is 5 when defending then it needs to be 5 not 3 as it was yesterday, they will not have a chance otherwise and will make the defence look even worse. Forwards is the least worry for me although the midfield plays a big part in making this work too., so let I also believe as fans we will have a big part to play and somehow need to stay together as we watch this play out as difficult it is, so noise and support will make a difference... And as for Nigel as you say mate there is no place to hide. There are no easy games and villa will come at us and be no different than we faced with Wigan so we will soon find out. As an older supporter I have seen grim imes so working hard to keep the faith -
I think we saw a lot of the ball today and at times had a little too much time and tried the complicated things instead of the simple option. Home and away is a very different proposition in the prem and in some ways easier to play away more than home. We need to go 4 4 2 at home and have the two men up front the freedom of the 4 attacking players is not helping them they are all looking to pass it. Stick rickie and jay up front at home with lallana and guly / ano wide for them.

I'm in Doha so will nip and have a word with them.....

50k attendance doesn't necessary mean more atmosphere as we have seen by some of the nearly full attendances at St Marys. I am not sure what the rush is to increase the capacity. So long as I can get my season ticket and get in, see good football and support my team. I dont need another 20k odd fans to tell me that we are a great club. now I am aware that bigger attendances will bring more revenue, more profits and so better opportunity for better players it will also mean worse congestion on roads in pubs in stadium etc. Let's enjoy improving and building on the team we have, as I read somewhere else isn't it great to not have those hanger ons and journey men looking for a last pay day

Should Brighton be investigated for Saturdays game ?
saint michael replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
I watched the game and their goalkeeper made Barts performance against Blackpool look class, I thought that I had missed something in the warm up and they had an outfield player in goal I think though that they just had a crappy day and it just was bad timing for us I am afraid -
has this brighton keeper ever played in goal before, he is wandering around his box and doesnt even look like a keeper
-
I hope somebody is rubbing Lambert's groin....

goal coming for us now and push on for winner

53 from Southampton living in Doha. First game in 67 v west ham was 0 0 but still went back. First away game spurs as a kid and remember punch up on coach on way home....thank goodness we don't squabble amongst our selves any more

Don't worry everybody we will have some divine intervention from our referee today .....a mister T Bates .

I think that our biggest rivals for automatic is Blackpool. They have a good squad and can keep going. They also seem to have had their bad spell whereas Cardiff haven't yet and have smaller squad. I think Birmingham just don't quite have it this year although will have some real purple spells when confidence is high (hope I dont have to eat my words there. Key for me is also who can keep squad fit and free of suspension, we can beat everyone with fully fit and available squad.

FA CUP Coventry V Saints Match Thread
saint michael replied to SOTONS EAST SIDE's topic in The Saints
I agree with Dave we need some good thrust up the front -
Good sentiment. Sadly I think it is the same in the stadium these days. Banter seems to have been replaced by anger (and I mean between our own fans) and the atmosphere is incredibly different from when I first started watching.
