Saw this just as I was going to post something similar. Given the egregiously bad defending in particular from their 1st and third (headed) goals, when players were left completely unmarked, it's not more height we need.. I'm desperately and optimistically trying to convince myself that a bit of coaching and players waking up to reality will improve matters vastly. I was afraid of Martin's tactics of playing the ball out would lead to goals when our players played themselves into trouble: in the end against Norwich it was plain, straightforward incompetence at defending crosses.

From The Guardian: So Liverpool could still buy him, it would just need about 25 million than they first offered.. 🙂

I was there today and jumping frustratedly at their third goal, and I've just seem the highlights and it was far worse than I thought. Even at grassroots level nobody gets left that unattended in the middle of the box! Lots of work to do defensively to just get the simple things right, which should help enormously. Although we haven't got an effective physical focus in attack if Adams goes I still think we'll have the ability to score. But oh my, that defensive midfield and defence..

I wouldn't mind if CB Fry joined their online forum as well..

Without trying to give the impression that we are in any way a competent side (there are lots of divisions these days in Hampshire Ladies league!) we actually did practice with one of the better and faster players given a free role and the others getting in the way. 🙂 Either way, the new set piece coach has his work cut out: Saints have been vulnerable to free kicks for ages now.

Funnily enough we were doing a defending corners session at our most grassroots of grassroots teams on Tuesday. We didn't mark zonally and as most of the team are short arses the instruction was to disrupt so that the attackers didn't get a clean jump. Wish Saints could manage that..

Was listening on the radio on the way back from training and then find I can't listen on online radio without signing in to yet another provider. I suppose I could always get back in the car.. Edit: hurrah, I found an old analogue radio.. second edit: wish I hadn't

Some lovely Wednesday (and Forest) fans gave me a lift back to my lodgings tonight. Christ, thank goodness it's hilly here and they were at least an hour away! Some lovely pubs, a lovely restaurant and a win. I shall be very welcoming to any Wednesday fans for the return match. -

I'm in The Wellington after a lovely meal at Domo ( thanks for that recommendation) whoever.. It's a corner pub and already random and discreet Saints fans in here.. -
The thing I like about Lord Duckhunter is at least he makes it indubitably clear that he's a prat. To make the effort to come on to a thread to tell people he isn't interested in the subject of the thread needs a very special personality..

Thanks. 1.4 miles isn't far, about my normal pub to St Mary's distance. After the game I'm hoping euphoria will carry me the three? miles back! -
Nope! But what a goal it was, just seen a clip of it, oh my! Worth looking for. Their first ever goal at a World Cup and one to remember. As for poor Saint in Paradise, with the effort he put in to posting here he could have found his TV remote control.

No, they're using smuggled in burners..

It's a friendly, better to try him in that position now. We'll learn from the good and the bad..

Injuries and getting towards the serious stuff?

Thanks, I'm travelling single and discreetly (GF hates footie) so the pubs you mentioned are a good possibility. The Wellington looks another likely one, is that a possibility? I'll be missing Turkish and his dungeon I'm afraid - staying clear of Harrogate on the A1M until I get to the squaddies and hack a left towards my friend's place. Haven't been away for years due to caring duties and really need a break: restaurant recommendations in addition to that food hall also welcomed. -

I'm sorted for accommodation, so now it's just pub recommendations I need. Then off to the Dales on Saturday to make a weekend of it with a friend, I'll wave at Harrogate as I go past so somebody needn't mix any cement!:-) -

Thanks. Just booked, there looked to be a couple of dozen left. Only one post left for me on here today, so any local knowledge I should know guys? Decent pubs, will my Hampshire bus pass work, cheap hotels, anything else?! -

Any suggestions for cheap places to stay? Now thinking of getting a ticket, giving my EV its first long trip and the following day pootle off to visit friends in Yorkshire. How big a problem is this? Haven't really looked at the maps yet. -
Just be thankful we no longer have Diallo, Elyounoussi, AMN and Walcott clogging up the squad. I'm expecting ABK and Salisu to go and probably a full back amongst others but I wonder if we'll have any surprise remainers? Is Martin showing himself to be a competent manager players want to play for after a weary Ralph and a nutty Jones? Experience says that the same posts will appear on here and that business will hot up as the transfer period gets towards its end, so worrying about it isn't going to help..
-
Tuesday night with another game at the weekend is not ideal particularly if you don't live in Southampton, so I wouldn't be going even if I didn't have another commitment tonight. I'll be there on Saturday though. I wonder if there'll be many tickets sold on the day after the improved display on Saturday?

If you go on the OS you at first don't find them in the photo line-ups and then realise you have to go down to the under 18s. Perhaps we have got some youngsters who'll make it..?! Now to sort out the young goalkeepers..

Both the Convict Colony and their neighbour won their games today, Saturday morning it's Englands turn. Not exactly free as I'll be watching at a pub with friends..
