  1. In my women's team in training I tell the shorter defenders you can still stop runs and jumpers if you get close and awkward. Cedric never seemed to whereas KWP does much better! As to our high defensive line, I used to cringe too but, as you say, it was actually very successful.
  2. We sold cakes at one of the clubs I played for. Nobody fancied my flapjacks though.. 😞
  3. Actually that's not as good a clue as you think given Manchester Utd and Liverpool were leveraged buyouts too and major investments like that are often with borrowed money. That said, no I don't reckon he's got much money either..
  4. Is that wise where Southgate is concerned? Anyway, TAA is now definitely out so we'll soon see..
  5. Fortunately I only read him when somebody quotes him or I forget to sign in. I've never seen so many likes as on your post!
  6. Tabloid world. See also 'war chest'. Never seen in any other context..
  7. So bad I've lost the capacitor to laugh.
  8. Didn't this tell them anything about the local market for premium football seats?
  9. I got back in after playing footie this afternoon and luckily the streams were all a bit dodgy so I only saw the first two goals. As someone up the thread said, we are so brittle, playing some decent approach football with no bite. Redmond did try attacking his man but getting caught off-side by being so static, and not clearing when he had an opportunity was depressing. For the second do they coach them to leave players unmarked by a couple of yards in the box? You don't even get that at the base of the football pyramid! But I'm not sure I've heard any real remedies. " Sell so-and-so and get in a decent something or other" sounds simple enough on the page, but not in practice. Telling us he shouldn't play Bednarek leaves us with whom? Bringing in Stephens would result in a different gang of critics. There are some good buys out there - the Czech guy for WH as an example, so we can only hope Crocker's input helps us. Lawd knows what's going to happen with Hoedt, Lemina and Elyonoussi coming back..
  10. Not sure that 'working class' has anything to do with it anymore, as none of my graduate, long term saints fans friends would be prepared to pay that either. We can discuss John McGrath, Fred Kemp etc with our years of support but wouldn't pay that money for a seat. A complete misreading of the market by the club. We are a small regional club without the market and the salaries that London teams can command.
  11. That made me laugh. I probably agree, with the additional advantage that at least with Turkish I'd inevitably get a justified reason to knee him in the b0llocks..
  12. That's what I thought. Always used to play with his socks round his ankles. Terry Hurlock's programme feature; Greatest Dislike: A dodgy pint..
  13. Ah, I hadn't considered that.. Perhaps they'd like a move to a club that has their own gym and training ground?
  14. I really haven't much of a clue, but my point was more that if the players turn down a reduced offer they're not necessarily going to get a better one in current circumstances. Perhaps their wages reflect a slightly higher than average crowd for that division, does anybody know?
  15. In a way today is more about the event and the performance than the result so I'm glad to have a ticket and see the news this morning about the effectiveness of the vaccines! I'll probably let the train take the strain as getting home from a 6pm K.O. isn't so fraught and there's a few pub gardens should be open.. Now when was the last time I saw a win at St. Mary's??
  16. I'm sure they are skint, but more so than any other team at that level in current circumstances? Will any of the players refusing new deals be snapped up elsewhere? Looks like Eisner is no Liebherr!
  17. Must admit I chuckled at that. You're right though, it didn't feel threatening. In our stand somebody was being all dramatic and mouth-frothing pointing out that my friend was a Southampton supporter and to give everybody else their due they just looked embarrassed at their fellow supporter!
  18. Ooh, I hadn't thought of there, was aiming more for somewhere with a big garden such as The Junction or South Western. My arrival time is 17.30 which isn't too bad. A jug in The GD to avoid to much to-ing and fro-ing seems like an excellent idea!
  19. Yep, that's the game. A car load of us went up without tickets and got in a side stand, all separated. We got sussed with a few amusing stories to tell. The supporter next to me, up from Brighton must have noticed my attempts not to react.."Good player that Le Tissier"..
  20. Blow me, it's like the 20th century never happened. At one stage I thought LD was parodying being a sexist tw*t, but then realised it's about his normal level.
  21. I've just done the health questionnaire and printed off my ticket, hurrah. Must remind myself to take my long distance glasses as I'm up in the gods somewhere. Still a decision as to whether I go by train and have a few pints, especially as pubs will be opening up a bit. I'll still aim for one with a garden though and will be taking my hand gel. I wonder how vocal we'll all be: are we allowed to sing?!
  22. I think the word that occurred to me was 'diffident', he seems a little too 'nice', basically what you're saying. Shame really as he does have pace and a decent touch.
  23. If he's 18 he might have one of those "I'm old enough to drink cards".. Whether that will be sufficient is another matter.
  24. That has always seemed to be the likeliest reason to me, and wouldn't be the first such player. Perhaps he's already been tapped up by someone?
  25. Cheers! 🙂 My usual procedure is to leave the pub with my friends at about 20 minutes to kick off (various pubs apply!) but this game it will be more like checking in at Gatwick so a fair bit more planning to do. A right pain for anybody still working.. I'll be missing football training but as they're all Pompey supporters they can't afford to give me too much grief!
