Russell Martin is a Brighton lad, runs an academy in the city (both my kids have played in them) and his son is at school there too. Thus he is a contender for the Brighton job. Wouldn’t be surprised. He’s 15/2 for it. If he goes we should opt for David Moyes or Steve Cooper. I think we’ll know after next Sunday.

We are SO boring. You can have all the build up play you like but if you don’t have any directness and shots in the final third you will never score or win. Which is why Martin’s style is so bad. On our winning run we had a bit of directness. That has all been squashed out of us and is completely encapsulated by Smallbone’s tedious pass back style. This could all end very badly.

I'm McCarthy's biggest critic but this is true. He had a very good game, and showed what Bazunu lacks. Couldn't give a monkeys about B's passing ability. We need a keeper who saves shots, and this is what McCarthy did in this game. Must want to prove a point. Would still be a disaster on pens, mind

We've lost after writing 'McCarthy'

The tactics aren't working and the players are showing signs that they don't believe that too. We're going to get burned at Leeds and in the play-offs unless they actually have a spark caused by the fact that, actually, they need to score goals and not let them in quite so readily. The space we allowed Stoke was criminal. There was no urgency in our play, and the personnel Martin picked were not up to the job. In THB's case, he looked he can't really be arsed and is more concerned not to get injured for the new club. The whole team looked a bit like that - as if they would rather be negotiating their next contracts away. KWP excepted, and he is probably the only one for whom that can be justified. Time to look at a new strategy with a manager who can keep things tight. David Moyes please. (I can dream)

That was the most insipid, lacklustre, talentless and spiritless half of football I have ever witnessed from a Saints team. We are so bad with the ball. McCarthy couldn’t save any shot ever no matter how tight the angle. He’s still contrive to let it in through his legs. Beer is the slowest most inept left back I’ve seen. Taylor Belli’s thingy just strolls around. Like a snail. Mara offers nothing. Edomite has seemingly had his skill vaporised by martin. There is no marking. No chasing. No shots. And everything is so slow. It’s abysmal. I hate this style of football and despise what has become of Saints. Won’t be coming again until the regime and style of play changes.

Play some players who look like they give a shit. Let all those who just want to stay injury free for their new (or old) clubs just watch. Time to get some zip and enthusiasm in our play, and an end to this constant boring ball recycling with no shots. So sick of it.

Having slept on it I'm still furious about the team selection (no pace, Rothwell being a big lump and waste of space etc etc) but really I think one of our biggest problems is that having so many loan players it means that when it comes to the crunch, there is little in the way of passion or heart, or playing for the cause. Most of these only have their eye on their next club, which also happens to our results when transfer windows approach. Therefore, in our last game of the season at home, why not blood the kids who should have had chances ahead of dross like Che Adams anyway, had Martin had anything about him. But then he does not seem to like exciting players who actually run at defences with a view to actually scoring goals. I personally could not give a shite about possession. Rather than a possession-based game, I'd much prefer a passion-based one, leading to a goals and entertainment-based game. Hoping we have another complete change soon.
