This. But still hurts to see O’Riley probably going elsewhere. Big concern for me is having McCarthy as our keeper. (Would he get in any other Prem starting XI? Answer is no) Feels at the moment that we are not strong enough to stay up. Big week to sort major positions.
-
Decent re BB Diaz. Won't set the world alight, but good business and it's our kind of signing, at a good price. Please get a good keeper. Please, God.
-
This. Bazunu means many points lost. McCarthy slightly fewer. Why are we still so blind on keepers? Lunacy
-
There is talk of Ramsdale to Newcastle, even with Nick Pope
-
I think we can agree they were both sub-optimal
-
You're right about him being slightly less bad than Mara
-
Bye, Che. Thanks for all the times you sort of held it up okay-ish occasionally and then just lolloped about a bit giving it the big I am. Good luck with the goals bonus at Torino.
-
This would be decent. Always felt he could be good for us. And really hope we beat Ipswich to another player. They're annoying.
-
Would be a terrific signing for us. Very doubtful we'll go for him though. Shame.

Che Adams has gone to Torino. Good. Some people who scoff at 'rumours' from the naughty press folk will not be happy

I can't see an article, only tweets. Where is it? This bit is very worrying though Martin: “After what Alex [McCarthy] did at the end of last season, I think he's earned the right to be first choice.” #saintsfc @rees_julian

SaintsExtra @SaintsExtra · 49m Martin on GKs: “This will open up in the next few weeks because I think Matty [Lis] wants to play football. As it stands, he's probably behind Alex [McCarthy]. He's competing with Joe [Lumley] for that slot behind him because Alex is a top goalkeeper.” #saintsfc @rees_julian And this, I'm afraid, is why we will not stay up. McCarthy is not good enough, and wouldn't get in any of the other Prem teams. This continuing blindspot about goalkeepers will cost us the difference between staying up and going down. Lunacy. PS interestingly no mention whatsoever of Baz. Worse injury than we expected or seeing him as not a contender when fit?

Would be great to get O'Riley. Wonder if our Danish connection in Ankersen will help get this over the line. Excited about this one.

Good point well made. Kane was absolutely terrible and entirely distorted the way England played. By not actually venturing into their penalty box, it allowed all the defences we played to push up as there was nobody to mark. Woeful and a hard watch. We need a keeper and a striker.
-
Che! It's that white thing. The bit between! Che! Oh bloody hell. The most overrated international striker just about ever
-
Agreed. We should withdraw our interest in Che on the important grounds that he is, actually, shit
-
Perhaps we could offer him a new contract?

Really didn't like the home kit when I saw the leaked shot. Couldn't believe it looked so cheap, like a knock-off from Poundland or a holiday stall. Looked better in the launch, but it's still a bit telling that most shots have the players grasping at the shirt to pull it, perhaps shielding what a poor cut it is. Looks very baggy, and should be more fitted on the torso. But it is getting better as the hours pass. Like the stripes - no mucking about. The away one, weirdly, I kind of liked to begin with but the more I see it the more I think Norwich City. Logo is horrid, of course, but nout we can do about that. Shame Starling Bank couldn't have stumped up extra to have the women's and the men's. Ho hum. Anyway, it's only a kit. Here's hoping the third (black and yellow stripes?) is a belter. What we really need is a good keeper or we're fucked
-
I wonder if this partially explains why his goalkeeper mate Ramsdale coming to us might be a possibility (re rumours yesterday)
-
Downes is signing. 18mill. the best news.
-
Rolling Stones. We're signing Jon Stones. 😉 Or Mick Jagger. Or Keith Richards. Or will just let it bleed. Hope it's not a cryptic message about looking for a good striker and then opting for a shit one in Adams
-
I'd say get Downes in now and it will start to look okay, and even better if we could perhaps convince KWP to stay (although the economics there might mean he has to go). Then we need a keeper, Che to leave and a good striker come in. Quite torn about Delap - didn't think he's worth it, but Ipswich having him is annoying, especially as I suspect their manage will get a tune out of him. Do think Ings would be a mistake, but may be our level

Also extremely exposed in the goalkeeping department with currently no-one Prem standard
-
Would certainly be the envy of our twatty Neighbours down the road
