They used to be a force in F1, even up to about the time you mentioned, but, more exclusively, they've been heavily involved in US open-wheelers, providing the chassis for the old Champ Car series. They've certainly got the nous to knock up a decent chassis but I've no idea how competitive they can be after such a long break.

They need to sort out the mechanical noise levels of the 360 before anyone could consider using it for anything other than games.

I don't think I'm too worried just yet. I'm certainly not going to start second guessing and criticising the decisions of any new owners before a ball has even been kicked.

It seems that only 13 entries will be accepted, chaps, so there's no need for pre-qualifying or any of that nonsense. It will probably be the 10 existing teams, USGPE (who are financially ready to compete as things are currently), Prodrive (Aston) and Lola (the best of the rest as far as infrastructure is concerned). The other entries will be politely declined, I should imagine.

The conditions are that all of the teams who intend to enter next year sign a Concorde agreement tying them into F1 until 2012 - that should see off the tyrekickers like Litespeed and Campos, and that if one team withdraws due to the FIA moving the goalposts, they all withdraw - that protects Ferrari and the other big names. The budgetary capping, technical restrictions, etc. are all to be set by the members of FOTA, not the FIA.

Anyone do this? Despite the news channels telling us all day that Toyota were withdrawing, I seem to have been correct.

Bet on the remaining 9 F1 teams to submit an entry for the 2010 season by the end of tomorrow.
