He was always a goo goalkeeper, but bad starts are difficult to recover from, especially in that position. Some people were just very short-sighted - Kelvin makes a few mistakes...therefore he must be a bad goalkeeper. Seems a top bloke to me and really cares, he was gutted at the final whistle vs Reading.

heard some interesting stuff and met some good people today

If Chris Baird signs we mght stand a chance of staying up. -
Holmes and Morgan have been excellent when they've played, things could improve as long as they stay fit. Cork leaving is a big blow, though, he was superb vs Reading.

McGoldrick wasnt as bad as Euell last match...just when I was beginning to think he was OK....

we'll be in the relegation zone beforte long if we don't improve, can't rely on Charlton, Fore4st and Donny being this bad all season. Funny thing is, I think we will start picking up more points, I am happy for the experiment to continue as I'm enjoying the football and the enthusiasm. Thats how low my standards have slipped after the past 4 years.

All depends on how they are used, Ormerod was superb under WGS. Delap and Telfer were able players too. Bernard was top drawer at Newcastle but awful for us, so much for Redknapp's inspirational man-management.
-
Lallana had something like 10 scouts from premiership clubs watching him in the Wolves game, I fancy he'll be off for around 3.5million.

I said from the very start that 21st place would be outstanding. I expected almost nothing from this season, thats why I wasn't all that upset last night. You could see what we were trying to do, but there was no real killer instinct. If we keep this squad together they can get better and better, I am not too disheartened.

Bloody hell I would LOVE to have him here, the man is a winner. Will never happen though.

To be fair Leon, Lowe has absolutely no choice but to sell if the crowds arent coming back, he makes him sound like he's doing it for his own gain.
-
I heard Wright is having a great run of form for Ipswich...you may be correct with the other two though...
-
Carson, James, Kirkland, Foster, Hart, Green, Wright, possibly Almunia, Robinson. I make Davis 10th choice, if he's lucky and I'm not forgetting anyone...

Ah yes, of course, the team we had in the first year of the Championship, nowhere near good enough for the Premiership. Delap, Higgs, Fuller...their careers have really taken a turn for the worse since leaving us haven't they! Jones turned out to be pamts, not like we had Niemi or anything is it? Lundekvam is a terrible footballer ETC ETC ETC. We spent bolllocks all in the first season, we had a good enough side with Quashie dominating matches etc, the only sticking point was a non-committed manager (appointed by Lowe of course) but Redknapp must take the brunt of the blame for that season. Wilde went crazy and spent £7 million in one summer on players we didn't need, Lowe was around for less than half of that summer. Then last summer the board did an even worse job, INREASING COSTS! That is what has sent us into the financial abyss. Finacially, Lowe was a sound chairman, but I am not pretending for one second that Lowe did anything but a rubbish job appointing managers, making decisions regarding players etc. But there is NO ALTERNATIVE for the club now. These youngesters aren't half bad, we've been unlucky not to rack up at least another 3/4 points so far this year, and we're not even in the relegation zone as it is. We'll probably lose Lallana and Surman, but in the last two years we have cornered ourselves in this impossible position. No good (or sane) manager would come here, we arent a good investment, so lets get on with it. COYR

To be fair to Lowe the finacial situation is mostly down to those in charge for the previous 2 years, and not him (although he did make bad decisions which contributed to our relegation). I'm not convinced that the gates would shoot back up if he left to be honest. We'd be utterly rudderless, there is no alternative to the system we have in place. We can't afford to pay money for experience, so we may as well go all in on the youth policy the way I see it. Screw it, I expect we'll be relegated, as I did when I first saw who had taken over, but my loyalty and love for Southampton won't be changed, whether it is Lowe or some soulless hedge fund who is in charge.

Accurate report, we play some good stuff but it will only be succesful if we sort out the defence, which looks vulnerable whenever the opponents use the oh-so-subtle approach of hoofing the ball into our box. Lancashire did OK, Pearce did OK, Skacel may well have been the man out of position for the first goal and Cork was not really noticeable. We need some good players back there, forget about Svensson, if he plays any games it is a bonus. Any money we make in January by selling Lallana should go on a £2 million centre half. Gerrard was the man we were chasing from league one wasnt he?
-
Those playoff goals were special, as was his assist away to QPR last season. Shame he never really pushed on and learned how to pass.

I blame the media for all this, the Mail have always hated Brand so jumped at the chance to screw him over. That radio show was really funny, good to see Amstell, Carr etc come out in support. Storm in a teacup if ever there was one. While what they did was out of order, it was hardly outrageous, and the fact that only 2 complaints were voiced before the Mail picked up on it speaks volumes.
-
Thats the spirit!
-
Ha! I stand corrected, how do they pronounce it?
-
All I was saying was that, given the fact that we have been forced to use our youngsters, we may as well employ a manager who shares this vision, meaning that we can actually have a club with conviction from all fronts, apart from the supporters after every loss it seems. We were always going to be struggling at the bottom of the table this season, whether it was Pearson or JP, but I think its better to be struggling with a manager who wholeheartedly believes in what the club is doing than one who perhaps doesnt. Obviously we do not know if Pearson would have been pleased to take on the challenge with the youth, but we do know that JP is, so lets just get on with it. Lowe took the only decision he could to use the youth, it took balls to do that, much better decision than it would have been for Crouch to continue to bankrupt us by continuing with the high wage bill. Lowe did things wrong last time around, no doubt, but since he's come back I havent had a problem with what he's done.
-
Bloody hell! We win and we can come midtable and after a loss we are doomed. I was convinced that we would be relegated at the start of the season, but we've played really well in some of our games, and I think there could well be 3 worse teams in this league. Heads up, chins up, each game as it comes, try to play with confidence and just maybe we will come 20th, a HUGE achievement. The real question isn't as simple as 'who is better, JP or NP?' That is because Lowe has done the right thing in utilising the youngsters, and this is a style very much suited to what Jan wants to do. I can't really imagine Pearson doing much/any better under these conditions, so it is completely pointless lambasting Lowe for his decision IMO.
-
Nope, those who allowed him to spend so much of the club's money on wages last summer are to blame.
