Message from Tony Lynam - Saturday 20th June 12:54pm
InvictaSaint replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
In a moment of extreme anger, depression, frustration but somehow also galvanised support, I sent Tony Lynam a PM last night, just so that he could be aware that we are all standing four square behind him. I did this with no desire to start a conversation, or even to get a response; I just wanted him to know how I and many others feel at the moment and how we desperately want him to succeed. Imagine my surprise when, in my inbox this evening, there was a reply from the man himself. Top, top bloke - the sort of bloke we need at this club to help make it great again. -
All of which begs the question Steve of why - with complete respect to you and your research - the highly expensive legal minds working with Pinnacle have not considered everything you raise (it is their job after all) and come to the same conclusion. If this is how things stand, and how things, based on precedents, are likely to pan out, why in the name of all things holy did they proceed on the assumption that this game of brinkmanship would work?? I cannot for a minute believe that they could have entered into this period of exclusivity in such a naive fashion, with so many lawyers advising them, to risk losing half a million pounds for nothing. It just doesn't add up does it? By all means let's see them push the boundaries a little and see what happens, but for the love of God, if it's a case of seeing £500K disappear down the swanny and losing the club, or starting with your option 3 (start in DIv 3 [League 1] on -10), then the latter MUST prevail. If it is anything more insidious than this - i.e. differentiating between SLH and the new SFC Ltd - then surely it would be an insurmountable obstacle to ANY bidder as Fry has already stated explicitly (Echo quotation yesterday). All of which, ironically, should put Pinnacle in a position of strength not weakness; they have just got to learn when to stop pushing and start signing - and quickly!
-
Another non-story from the Echo. What they fail to realise is that Fry has already said that ANY bidder would come up against this same problem, irrespective of who they are. If it is not resolved then the sale of the club will not be completed - whether the buyer is the richest man in the world or Mark Jackson. Thus, whether MJ has £10 billion and Arsene Wenger lined up to manager us is of absolutely no significance whatsoever; if the problem cannot be resolved, the sale cannot happen.

Reading Halo's post in conjunction with Dubai Phil's "catch 22" post on another thread leads me to conclude that some very clever legal people on Pinnacle's side have thought this through long and hard and have realised that they can push this as far as is possible before forcing the deal through. IMO this is not a last minute hitch on Pinnacle's part, but rather a last minute realisation on the FL's part that they are on very dodgy ground legally speaking and may have to find a compromise to save themselves. We shall see. MLT's comments on SSN at 7.20 today were encouraging though....

Was thinking exactly the same thing when I read the quotation. It clearly had Frey down as saying "any" bidder - not the current one, but any bidder. Thus as you rightly say NickG it is in his interests to clear this up on Monday, one way or another, and then help Pinnacle go form there. To start from scratch, with another bidder, and risk losing the creditor's X amount in the pound alreadt agreed (far greater than anything they would receive if we went into liquidation) would be extreme folly. Whatever we may think of Fry, he cannot be that naive or stupid. A few more bumps as we descend through the cloud cover and then....smooth landing. Welcome to New SFC everybody, enjoy your stay....

Somehow managed to submit the same post twice, once with the spelling mistake..... and once without.....

I'm assuming this is all very much tongue in cheek...non?

I do find it ironic that there are people on here moaning about Tisdale when he has guided his team from non-league to the very same division into which all our other custodians - many of whom many of us were happy to see at SMS [Redknapp, Burley] - have collectively allowed us to sink....

I thought it was soul singer Errol Wetup

Moi, je ne regrette rien. Non, je ne regrette rien. -
True, OSM, but the same domestic "situation" clearly did not prevent McGoldrick from signing a new contract only last October.....

Although he can't spell for toffee. HTH.

The last post underneath the letter is from the Echo web editor who states that the paper has Tony Lynam's "express permission" to reproduce the open letter on their and other websites. Seems totally genuine as far as I can ascertain.

Am beginning to tire of the way it is all dragging on now; emotionally very draining all of this, and if games are being played by certain parties then shame on all of them. To everybody involved: cure the patient or turn off the life support machine. Stop ****ing about and make a decision. Then, if we have to mourn, at least we will be able to.

Good shout. Would be a good addition to their 'franchise'.

Good point! Must get my eyes tested!

I was interested in the capitalisation of Southampton Acquisition (SA - South Africa) and by the black and gold reference. The Springboks shirt is black and gold....so are we looking for a short, wealthy South African? The De Haans? Very big in the horse racing world (hence the Irish link?) and owners of SAGA the over 60s holiday company, based in the south-east. Could be wrong, but just trying to unravel the cryptic clues....

I know it's a loose analogy, but if you ever saw the new Poet Laureate interviewed you would struggle to comprehend how she ever got the position. However, appearances and interviews are one thing; it's the quality of the work you do that marks you out. If the MJ bid is successful, what we are all going to do? Sit around bemoaning the fact that we have a club run by local businessmen rather than a Sultan or a Sheikh? Or perhaps we may have to be grateful that SOMEBODY put in the effort to save us and allow us to even have a club?

Since the purpose of the non-refundable deposit was to keep the club going (day-to-day costs), I can only assume that somebody (Leon?) has stumped up the cash to keep us going for a few more weeks whilst this interminable saga drags on.
