  4. I had a conversation this evening with a senior QS at a firm i did some work for last year and when we had finished the serious bit he started taking the **** out of Saints because he knew I was a supporter. I told him it was worrying times for us and he said (after he had wound me up for about 10 minutes)that he was now working for a man named Fulthorpe and that he was involved in a plan to bring a sizeable development to the st marys area of Southampton. Evidently mr Fulthorpe has got connections with a great deal of people who own land and businesses in the vicinity of the ground and the plan is for a "Chelsea village "type of development with the stadium at the heart. I asked if Mr Fulthorpe was one of the bidders but he said he honestly didnt know but he has spent a lot of money putting this plan together . Right thats all I know and it is second hand.

I have been away now I am back and I am back living In southampton .The last couple of places I have been living have been near Reading when they got promoted and near Cardiff when they reached a cup final and possibly make the play offs this year. So possibly a bit of luck may follow me back home. I bloody well hope so.

  22. I agree with your sentiments about standing up and being counted, but following your anology through a little further, this little island would have been well and trully knackered if a rich american backer hadnt come in and provided the finance in the the form of lease lend,so maybe we still need a bit of help.
  23. I think this is just a reflection of what is happening in every industry now ,mine included. When I started in the construction industry ,more years ago than I would like to admit, the "site agent"(now known as a site manager)who was the main contractors representative on site, would always come from a trade background,i.e carpenter ,bricklayer ,plumber etc. Although there was some financial control by way of a quantity surveyor, these people would in no way tell the agent how to run the job.Nowadays a Q.S is by far and away the most powerful person in a building company as they control the purse strings and many members of senior management are drawn from their ranks.
