  1. Liam Finnegan, Regents Park way. on Checkatrade and did some quality work at a decent price on my house. all round top guy
  2. Chose well by staying in Manly. That's where we based ourselves and wasn't too difficult getting back in to Sydney CBD (regular ferry, bus or taxi). We actually had a great time in the bars and restaurants lining the front at Manly. Decent mix of people. A few rough and ready pubs, right through to top end bars & restaurants. Over in Sydney as someone else said a walk around the Quays, past the Opera House and in to the wonderful Botanical gardens and along to Macquaries Chair is very pleasant, with great views of the harbour. We got up early one morning and got a tram?? to the fish market somewhere past the casino in Darling Harbour by Anzac Bridge. Shared a bit of breakfast with some local pelican Thought Bondi was awful, so I'd give that a miss (Its a downmarket Manly!!).
  3. Hey, HK Phoey, when did the Barbican close??? Was always a place we'd pop in for a drink and tapas, along with The ExecutiveLounge in Patpong 2 (Exec Lounge was first bar I ever went in many moons ago & was just a tradition to have first drink there every trip). Chatachuk is definitely worth a mention, my only issue was with two days it can be a bit hectic and tiring!!!! Would have said Suan Lum night bazaar as really loved that place and its beer garden, but that's also disappeared!! Have you been to Lek Seafood under Ching Nosi sky train, my favourite seafood place but off between track. With little one now on the scene, think it might be a few years before we get back East!!! Caravans in Devon and more sensible options might have to be the order of the day. I really miss the Sanuk!!!!
  4. Problem here is that its a bit like saying I've got two days in London, what do you recommend?? Such a big place, heat can take it out of you and sometimes travelling across the city can be arduous. DP and others have come up with some decent ideas, and my top places/things would be: Day As Phil says, shopping at MBK A trip around Grand Palace & temple and would suggest a decent tour guide to get the most out of it A couple of hours at Jim Thompsons House, a little oasis in the hustle and bustle Vimanmek teak palace and grounds Agree with a haggled longtail around the canals from Saphan Taksin (I've paid anything from 400 to 1200 baht in total for an hour for 3 or 4 people, probably more nowadays!!!) Night My top tip would be a sunset cruise on the "Loy Nava". Google it, it's an old rice barge that goes up and down the river. Best thing I've done of an evening (honest) Drink at Sky Bar (meal if you're splashing out) or same at Vertigo Great bar near paptpong on Soi Thaniya (Japan st) is The Barbican. Stylish bar with great food amidst a blade runner set! Otherwise DP has mentioned many good places, but I personally don't like cabbages and condoms
  5. What a great find, thanks Lighthouse, first time I've seen that replayed. Still convinced I watched that through the portaloo window in the side/corner of Plough Lane, but that's certainly how I remembered it happening. From our end/side it looked as Fashanu did a cartwheel.
  6. Big Saints fan!!!! An old mate from school who was part of our 1984 FA Cup tour. Used to live up your way Gemmel (off Sandpiper).
  7. Not sure whether it coincided with my age (9-16) during the period from 76-84, or whether it was the relative success (FA Cup, promotion, Europe, League Cup Runners up, Daily Express 5-aside winners!!!, England internationals aplenty), but the teams of that era will always live with me. Front lines that included Ossie, Channon, Boyer, MacDougall, Keegan, Moran, Wallace, etc roll, off the tongue. So as you say, I think the current team(s) and the contributing players will stick around in many people's minds for a long time. And Lambert is probably the stand out amongst them. Someone who has performed in three divisions and the. Gone on to make his England debut, someone whose goals and performances have set the tone (and of course strikers always get the glory). He's "only" been here four years, but think his status must be close to being up there with some of our greats from the past.
  8. Personally found New Orleans disappointing when I visited in Spring 2002. Thought it was a cross between a Theme Park & Cancun on Spring Break. Undoubtedly it has a great history, wonderful architecture and a laid back vibe, but I found the whole place swamped with the corporate, consumer driven, beer chugging chase the $$$ ethos. Seemed to have sold its soul. As FM mentioned, much preferred downtown Memphis (although Beale St might have same problem) and my favourite Nashville. A more country feel, but plenty of blues, jazz and soul as well. Music is big business in Nashville, but it seemed much more natural and wasn't as gawdy or tourist driven.
  9. Top of the list Everton. After that, Reading, Wolves & Blackburn
  10. As a first time parent of less than a year, I'm struggling to see how they could have left those kids alone and unattended. I never want to smother my little un, but the thought of leaving her in a room/apartment at that age, while I go off for a couple of hours is some thing I just couldnt contemplate.
  11. Just drove by someone wearing the shirt, and feck me it really is horrible!
  12. Had a dig around the interweb to try and find out her Soton link and turns out her maternal grandfather ran RAF Calshot and also did something over at Hamble before WWII. He ran the RAF in North Africa supporting Monty, played a major role in D Day and died when the plane he was travelling in disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle!!!
  13. Have to say the work the Saints Foundation is doing in Millbrook & Lordshill is top notch (also only heard great things about the stuff over at Woodlands School as well). Engaging with the youngsters and getting loads involved. Local Police deserve praise along with the local youth workers. If I had one criticism/improvement, then it would be to get more players involved. I've always thought that given the amount of spare time they get and the way the kids in the local communities look up to them, then giving up a few hours to pop along to these events would be a good idea.
  14. Not a shirt, but on the subject of misspelling, the henna man on Chaweng beach in Koh Samui was knocking out Saints Crests with Southamton on them around the same time (early 2000s). Almost got one to go with my Buma flip flops and Von Dutch Oricinal T shirt.
  15. Probably around 2003????, on about floor 6 of MBK Mall in Bangkok saw a fake Saints home kit in a kiddies size. You could tell it was a fake due to misspelling of FREIDS PROVIDENT!!!
  16. Ok, I'll let him know and sort out arrangements. Seeing him Saturday so hopefully he will have them with him.
  17. Friend of mine was lucky enough to win tickets in the ballot but was allocated them for the Monday (day 5) and can't now go. I'm on hollibobs so wondered if anyone fancied them. Two adults & two concessions (children or OAPs). He wants what he paid for them, which is £60 the lot.
  18. Those who play on the Hampshire League on a Saturday and who play within the boundaries are: Southampton Community II - Millbroom Rec Southampton Travellers - Lordshill Riverside CC - Riverside Park Biggest problem is lack of decent facilities and pitches within the City, although in the midweek leagues there are a number of clubs making use of the Council pitches (above plus Sports Centre, Hoglands etc). As others have said, I think most Sotonians venture out of the City to play their cricket, where space is not a premium and there are clubs with a long history.
  19. But then again it's a business and if we don't like it we can always go and buy another shirt. I personally like LA Galaxy's new shirt so might go and buy my nephews one of them each to wear to SMS as they look a bit better.
  20. Very poor effort. Limited effort in design, limited reference to history andtradition. The sneaked picture looked like something that would beknocked out on the cheap in a market in Thailand and the real McCoy isn’t muchdifferent.
  21. It's déjà vu time and I remember when this topic came up a couple of years back. I'll never understand the rush to the bottom with regards pensions. With the exception of some top end (perhaps comparable to those huge pay offs seen in the Private Sector) and some very old schemes, Public Sector schemes aren't that lucrative and average out at something like £7k a year. I wholeheartedly supported the recent Hutton reforms asking for public employees to contribute a bit more and to look at how payments are earned/paid, but he also spoke of the hidden time bomb in the private sector. The biggest issue is the lack of provision and savings in the Private Sector, because of course who will be fronting up the shortage when these workers retire????? It will be the taxpayer of course, so you can either moan having to pay out ££££s now to fund Public Sector schemes or moan later when you're paying out ££££s to help support those from the Private Sector who retire with poor or even no pensions schemes to fund them.
  22. Have to back Gemmel up on ths one. Great bunch of lads who you'll see home and away at Saints matches getting off their arses and doing something for those less fortunate kids who live in the City.
  23. We would do well to crack top ten next season and the idea of top 4 is farcical. So who out of Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal are going to dislodge????
  24. Not sure whether to say how amazing or how foolish!! Found it difficult to watch at times, but stunning at others!! Plus I could see my old house
  25. The Old Man is gutted at hearing the news that one of the holy trinity has passed away. RIP Ron
