  1. I've done one of the Maths versions of this. My degree was Business, Accountancy & Economics etc and University of Southampton weren't very forthcoming about allowing me to do a GTP in Maths with it (or PGCE - not that I wanted to go that way). Can sort of understand their "snobbishness", but think they're also limiting the pool of talent out there with this attitude. So after a bit of research I enrolled on the Mathematics Enhancement Course at Chichester University - (it was a pilot at that time, but rolled out nationally since). 6 months full time starting Jan each year. Completed that and then did a GTP in Maths. Not sure of the exact Physics equivalent.
  2. In 1979 I had: "Lawrie's Lumberjacks Will Cut Down Clough's Forest" Sadly, we didn't!!!!! (bloody Gary Birtles)
  3. Someone I know (who still works in the docks so I'll spare him his name) lifted a huge American flag from a boat. The Stars were promptly cut off leaving a nice red and white section that we added "Southampton FC, Pride of the South" in time for the 84 Qtr final at Hillsborough. Don't remember what happened to it after that game.
  4. I can remember another one that Friday night and it just said "Hello Pompey" above a huge one fingered salute.
  5. Wade, a serious question and not being flippant here - Have you ever experienced prison first hand in any capacity? I have (as a volunteer working with prisoners at HMP Winchester & HMP Kingston) and the experience for the overwhelming majority is a world away from the Daily Mail version of plasma screens, mobiles, playing pool and chilling out. It is a somewhat sad, depressing, mind numbing and spartan existence (some might say that's how it should be, but that's a different argument). And with it costing £40,000+ a year just to house prisoners (that's even before we count the cost of the crimes themselves) I think mickn's thoughts on prevention, re-education and rehabilitation are a route that I would prefer to follow.
  6. I do like that observation!!!! Very interesting and your addition has some merits to it as well. Connoly might be the only one who you could say was on the other side (even then he's perked up recently) and maybe Kelvin, but on the whole we have a hungry bunch of players all trying to prove themselves which has to be better than those just hanging around to pick up the pay packet.
  7. On the gate price last night at Portsmuff was £27 (Reading friend had to buy his on the night). An equivalent for us would also be £29 if bought on the day. Take out those 1,500 Reading fans out and the attendance was appalling!!!!!! I couldn't believe the Brighton attendance (even with those Brighton fans in the home end), but last night was awful.
  8. After hearing we were 3 up, I later switched the phone on during a quiet point of the wedding reception I was at (down at The Saints!!!), I had a look on twitter and had resigned myself to accepting a 3-3 draw. Oh me of little faith. A few Kronenbourgs have since been downed!!!!
  9. Met a couple of Seagull fans in holibobs and asked them the same question. My suggestion that normal service has been resumed and that their only season above us (I hope I was right on that claim!!!!) is but a distant memory!!!!!!!! (they still had a bee in their bonnets about some of Adkins comments last season though!!!!).
  10. Not everyone
  11. Howdy Daren. Was a serious question in that at this time of the season the number of season tickets sold sometimes takes on a life of its own in the minds of supporters (even I get a tad emotional/impressed when I hear we're near to selling out, or taking 3,000 away!!!!!). Called the Leeds game right a couple of weeks back in that I thought the attendance would be 25,000+ (and not the 22,000 people were worrying about), and just wondered how many season tickets we had sold. Was concerned we'd only sell about as many as last year (given price rises, changes to age groups and general selling strategy), but am worried it might not even be that. For me season tickets underpin attendances and always like to see SMS as full as possible. The Leeds attendance was decent, just hope season ticket sales aren't that bad and that performances on the pitch tempt others to come and pay on the day.
  12. Indeed it is. Norwich use it to refer to Ipswich, Luton call Watford it, Grimsby call Hull it etc etc etc. It's not unique to us and their attempts at making it look as though they have a monopoly on this standard and unoriginal slur are as risible as their justification of the SCUM acronym.
  13. Have we played any differently in these first two games (as opposed to how we finished last season)???? Been out of the loop for a couple of weeks, but impressed by the results we have picked up so far. Quite a few supporters of other teams I met on holibobs were tipping us as dark horses and the first two results can give us some confidence. Long hard season, but as we're notoriously bad starters I'll happily take 6 out of 6.
  14. So how many did we sell in the end???? Can't see it mentioned anywhere (sorry if it is on a thread somewhere).
  15. The Golden Lion on the Queen Elizabeth was 100% Saints over the last fortnight!!!!!! On the last night the old guy on the piano was knocking out some "cockerney" songs, but when he got to "When I was just a little boy", it seemed as though half the pub was joining in with the other version!!!!!!!!! eircofarabia is spot on in his analysis above, in that during the 70's and 80's they were just not on our radar as they languished in the lower leagues, whilst we scrapped it out with the big teams. The jealousy and rivalry was fairly one way (in much the same way as Bournemuff were getting all worked up last season).
  16. Have to agree. 2 x tickets £60 Home shirt & printing £45 Programme £3 That's close to £110 on its own. Sounds a very good deal.
  17. Is it too early to put down our estimates????? If not, I'm going for 25,122
  18. They don't on our prices. The £23 is adult advanced purchase in Family stand. The £30 is adult advanced purchase in Centre Itchen/Kingsland.
  19. Understand the top rate Ipswich ones are seats that are initially offered to the Corporate Market (padded seats, opposite Director's Box, seperate drinking area etc), but are sometimes offered on general sale if they don't sell out.
  20. You're not a very good example to your classmates as qualifications are always important (no matter what your future aspirations are). I'm sure people can make it without or despite them, but you'd be better off knuckling down in your final year and bagging as many as you can (at a decent grade as well). Have you got approval from your school or are you just going regardless???
  21. I'm surprised your parents and school are letting you go during term time!!!! Isn't this your important GCSE year???
  22. Us teachers aren't planning on striking, for a few weeks anyway. Off tomorrow for a nice cruise on the Queen Elizabeth, good job I had that day off on strike recently or else I would never have got round to doing all the holiday preparation. Regards.
  23. If that is indeed the gate then it would be very, very poor!!!! We got a similar gate last year against Plymouth for the opener (21,700), with 2,000 away fans. I would have thought a couple of thousand extra home fans and another thousand from Yorkshire, would mean a gate of 25,000. Season tickets will be underpinning our attendances so it will be interesting to see how many we have shifted come Saturday.
  24. It's the booklet with the vouchers in that are in circulation, not a full season ticket pouch with your name and address and seat no. That said, I've often just ripped out the voucher when there's been a queue at the turnstile, so there is a possibility that people could just try and use the voucher (and a cursory wave of the voucher booklet to get in). Of course to counter this I assume the Club will be briefing turnstile operators to check every ticket booklet and probably have stewards working the queues outside as well. However, even if the Club are confident they have checks in place I would have thought it would be plain common courtesy to inform supporters that there are problems with some season tickets. As others have pointed out, there must be a great many people out there just sat on what they assume to be full season tickets who could well be on for a shock come Saturday. At the wedding on Saturday I let a couple of friends know about this error and recieved two texts yesterday, one was OK, one only had 9-23. It is not too late for the Club to announce something through their media outlets (e-mail & OS) and get this replicated out in the local media.
  25. Darkies = Muslims innit. Tilting at windmills
