  1. Not sure we deserved that win, but look at the table and we have three more points, that's all that matters about today. Good game for the neutral, but a draw would have been fair (a high scoring game mind, as both defences were pretty poor). 4-4 would have been a truer reflection on the balance of play, chances etc. Was really looking forward to todays game and predicted 2-1 in a scrappy game, so was close to guessing the score but the game wasn't really scrappy, just a little naive defensively from both teams. Was a bit concerned with having 3 "new faces" in the back 4 and there was worries were borne out as the game progressed. Came out and started strong and looked good going forward, but when Forest hit us on the counter attack we looked all over the show (Fonte admirably trying to hold it together). First game came when Spiderman surrendered possession and then Forest exposed Cork. Not sure who should have picked up their scorer but it wasn't clever. A good response from the crowd and the team saw us straight back in it with a well worked goal (even if it was in on the rebound). Another good goal and we were on top only to be undone again just before the break. Second half was not very good at all. Lack of shape and confidence meant Forest had the upper hand. Did we look a little bit tired as well????? After scoring our third we never got any jitters and despite 5 minutes of injury time, we never looked in trouble (although McGoldrick coming on helped us no end). We were exposed down the flanks, with a combination of little support form the midfield and the full backs being caught out of position. A real mixed bag overall. Davis - 7 - A couple of good saves plus some mad distribution inviting pressure on us. Cork - 2 & 8 - 2 defensively and 8 going forward. Got caught too far up the pitch, but when in possession looked quality Fonte - 8 - Worked hard in marshalling the chaos of the back line at times. Hooiveld - 5 - Good presence, but caught out of position too often. Distribution not that good Fox - 5 - Real mixed bag. Showed he could be good, but was cuaght out of position too much. Both flanks were poor defensively Guly - 6 - FLashes of brilliance (great through ball for first goal), seemed to chase back more than I have seen him before, but then disappeared Spiderman - 5 - Game passed him by at times. Hammond - 7 - Worked hard, with little support. Lallana - 7 - Not one of his best games, but still quality. Lambert - 9 - Hat trick is all that matters (but did seem a bit knackered towards the end) Connoly - 8 - What a great little player, playing with confidence and appetite. Subs Chaplow - 6 - Helped us to be more solid in the middle of the park (good substitution) De Ridder - 6 - Not in the game for long, but gave us an outlet for the last few minutes
  2. Was absolute tosh today when he came on and brought back nightmares of his time in the limelight with us. Still can't believe that he was heralded as our next big thing back in those dark days. We mugged Forest off massively when we offloaded him (plus he's not a nice piece of work either!!!).
  3. Enjoyed it in its earlier days, but its very tired now. Would regularly watch it, but when I have tuned in recently it's just like watching a repeat (never transferred to other sports either).
  4. And under the new owners/management it's a pretty decent boozer nowadays.
  5. Personally I would go down the route of getting hold of Halifax Credit cards first. I have been the victim of fraud once (card cloned at a restaurant and flights booked to Lagos the next day), an erronoeous charge (I certainly don't shop with Littlewoods), holiday company going bust (could have claimed from ABTA?ATOL, but credit card was easier) and some faulty goods (cracked microwave and Currys were getting arsey). Rang credit card company each time and they sent me a form to fill in and return. Quick & easy and credit appeared on next statement with no further questions asked. Know people who have said PayPal takes ages and is hard work, so I'd try Halifax first. Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act makes them jointly liable.
  6. Stoke signing Andrew Davies was not contingent on Saints signing Pulis (well placed source inside the Club when I asked this question a while back).
  7. Wonderful news!!! Hope they're both doing well x x
  8. The mighty Font beat the sailors 5-0. Good turnout from the home crowd, but not one away supporter!!! Maybe Romsey OB had banned them LOL
  9. I don't think anyone would argue that there is no need for the over the top and nasty posts. Using the pub analogy once again I very much doubt some posters on here would repeat in person what they find so easy to post on here. But it must be remembered that some of the nasty and over the top posts (and continual baiting) have been aimed at those who are deemed "negative" or "pessimistic".
  10. The only game worth considering is Mottisfont vs RN Portsmouth. That game has everything going for it. Will the Romsey Yoof show???
  11. Agreed!!! Shearer missed too many one on ones, whilst Townsend was the dogs. Many a night up The Woodman arguing the toss. Don't remember people being told not to air their views (although when Merryoak turned up One night there wasn't much talking going on!!!!)
  12. Don't really think this is the time or the place for your cheap shots. Complete cnnut.
  13. Long running agendas against certain members??? What's that supposed to mean??? I doubt anyone is left from the previous regimes to make it a long running agenda. Life is full of optimists, pessimists and those in between. The broad church of Southampton supporters is no different. If you feel someone is being too pessimistic, then of course tell them, but some of the stuff that gets posted on here is way OTT. As an example the way Duncan was denigrated on here by a few of the "usual suspects" was cringeworthy, particularly when he was spot on. I'll excuse the WUMs/trolls, as they are not worthy of a reply, but IMHO it is a failure to accept that others may see things differently and then attack the individual that is the problem. In the 30+ years I have been going to football, there have been constant discussions and conjecture about the merits of Player A vs Player B, or where Manager X has got it wrong or right etc.
  14. Spot on. I'm sure when our lot meet up before the next game we'll all be chuffed about the great start, we'll have a chat about how well Cork is settling in, but I'm sure we'll also discuss "missing out" on targets in the transfer window and then we'll have 7 or 8 different opinions on who our weak point is. As you say most of the stuff posted up on it (from both extremes and all the the stuff in between) will happily get debated at the pub, pre or post match. It's been happening like that for years up and down the country. Football has always been passionate and it has always been about opinions. The way some people react on here is the problem, certainly not what is being said. I certainly don't agree with hounding those who are deemed "happy clappers" or "negative doomsayers", we all should be able to handle a different opinion without getting all het up. (and to answer your earlier point, as Hypochondriac points out Duncan has received huge amounts of abuse and baiting from a number of bedwetters. I mentioned a few days ago about the stick he got when he was repeating what he had been told about Pardew getting the sack, so it does cut both ways).
  15. My little nephews went along and they had a great time with their grandad (I was up the cricket ground painting the pavillion!!!). Always thought the Club should be doing these type of days, so fair play to them. Minimal expenditure and a great way for some youngsters to see the players close up (and also good for the players to socialise with the fans).
  16. Scary stuff. Just driven up London Road on my way to Waitrose and saw all the tape and police milling around. First thoughts were some sort of robbery, but having seen this thread it's obvious it's related to this incident. Hope the lad pulls through OK.
  17. Buy a more compliant wife!
  18. I'm sure he would have known (even via agents and other conduits) and also sure NA and NC would realise he would at some point find out, so can't believe they would have hidden it from him. Big story for me if we, or he, or both turned Everton down, as I think Lallana makes us tick.
  19. We can only wait and see.
  20. Here was original response when someone tried to resurrect this thread after we had been promoted (and I still stand by it): The only person who should be embarrassed should be you with your constant need of self gratification and worthiness, coupled with an obvious insecurity issue that needs to be fed by attempting to show up others. How any Saints fan can be embarrassed at seeing their Club promoted and seeing such joyous scenes over the weekend is beyond me. At this moment in time I would imagine that anyone who blew a gasket over the Wallsall loss is feeling something much more positive and joyous, and is not even contemplating being embarrassed. The overwhelming majority of the initial responses on this thread are from passionate supporters who were obviously frustrated at losing to a team fighting relegation, whilst we were challenging for promotion. Throw in the immediacy and the knee jerkiness of the interweb and it should be no surprise that people let off steam on threads like these. It is not a measure of their support, indeed I would say their passionate outbursts show how much this Club means to them. Methinks you really need to give it a rest with this approach and instead wallow in the delight and happiness of promotion (or see a shrink). HTH I even think Hypo says he "hates Saints" somewhere in his immediate knee jerkiness, and yet we patently know that is not the case. Using post match reactions to a frustrating and potentially damaging defeat to prove a point is a tad weird. You would only have to voxpop a handful of Saints fans after a defeat at SMS to obtain a rather caustic and annoyed response.
  21. In which case someone should have a word with Adkins, Big Les, Cortese and others for wasting precious time and effort trying to sign people when we didn't need them.
  22. It's a valid discussion considering up until yesterday we were looking to sign permanent deals for a centre half and a forward. Adkins obviously wanted to bring a couple of quality players in.
  23. Heart says could be worth a shout, brain says probably not. So much would depend on Beattie's attitude and his appetite for the game. 33 isn't too old for someone with integrity, passion, drive and commitment (Connoly is older), but it is ancient if they're just looking for a pay day in the sun!
  24. In the modern game, I think it's a bit naive to think that a lot of players aren't sounded out before you get too far down the line.
  25. I would have said that the January window was the panic buying season (we certainly witnessed it under Redknapp in 2005). Surely the summer window is the one where you can take a couple of months to do your business and integrate players in to the team at the start of the season. I certainly agree with your assessment that TEAM ethic is a huge part in the success or failure of a team and Adkins has played a major role in developing what would appear to be a great spirit in the side. That will count for a number of points over the season, no doubt about it and it has contributed to a great start. I certainly didn't want "star names" to be signed (the 2005 January window and subsequent windows gave us a number of star journeymen), but with Adkins obviously being in the hunt for a forward and a centre half, I think there was a desire to sign a couple of players who could have improved the team. The fact that that didn't happen (no disrespect to Joos) means I am a tad disappointed at the closure of this window.
