Right now Kieran McKenna is probably the best comparison to Adkins when we were last in this league. Ipswich have carried the momentum and look like a genuine team.

Last season Sport Republic gambled on the recruitment of young players and left-field management and personally I was really hoping we wouldn't see a repeat this season, but we are where we are. Watching the club fail as a naïve work experience project ending in relegation was awful, and if there is 'scar tissue' at the club it's mainly with the supporters. This year we are considerably better shape and suffering mainly due to the remarkable form of the top two as others have pointed out, but worth remembering that Russell Martin is still a 'project' and is learning on the job in terms of fan / board expectation, media attention, and management / calibre of player. Martin's defensiveness and nark with the media and on the touchline shows that he is under pressure despite the unbeaten run and regardless of his positive soundbites. I like that he gives a shit! He knows that with this squad he is expected to challenge for the top two and it must be frustrating for him that his side have only really clicked for three halves of football this season, the first half against Leeds, and Cardiff just twelve days ago when we looked terrific and should have won five or six nil if it wasn't for the finishing. So there is the rub, if it wasn't for the finishing, how long have we been lamenting that. Like it or not project Martin is going nowhere unless he completely bombs in the new year, so there is a lot of responsibility on Jason Coolbox and Air miles Mowbray to come up with the goods without excuse. We need goals from centre forward, wing and midfield so best of luck buying that in. However, if by the end of January we are seeing the Leeds Cardiff version of Russball with end product nobody is likely to complain.

Start spreadin' the news I'm supportin' the Saints I want to be a part of it Twinned with New York These French and Sons shoes Are longing to stay Right through the very heart of it With walls you can walk I want to wake up In a city that’s been asleep And find we’re kings of the champs Though it looks fucking steep These little-town blues Are melting away We’ll make a brand new start of it The Russball fast walk If you can make it here You deserve a Blow job and beer It's up to you Life’s just, too short…

Insipid. Going to need to buy in the necessary cutting edge. Chop, chop Wilcox!

Wee man last minute special!

Alison Hammond?

Bree is by far the better defender. A clear case of the manager playing his player and Martin needs to reel it in next game.

Both feasible.

They need to mix this up to fully reflect the Sport Republic empire - a bowler, beret and a Fez would truly set us apart.

A literal cracker

Not sure what people expect with the demographics of the modern game, pretty much sanitised and softened since we left the Dell, getting on for a quarter century. From what I've seen and heard in person this season we're no different from most other Championship clubs, apart from our very healthy numbers.

Good shout re. Ipswich at Watford. I think time to take stock is the end of January in the hope that the top two have slipped and the gap narrowed. That’s hope rather than judgement. The squad looks solid but we desperately need a finisher and that’s a big ask in this window, albeit easier in this league than the one above. A Saints v Leeds play off final at Wembley would be very memorable however…

Bollocks!

Not convinced Mara is suited to front of house to be honest, take him forever to get to the tables from the counter. That said, if La Petite Maison Gerard can cover the loan fee at least he’d be busy on Saturdays…

Very pessimistic and a short memory, you have to remember that Nathan Jones was on for the treble just prior to being forcibly removed - many of these scar-tissue healed players have played beyond the fourth round. Plus, this year we canned the League Cup early so Russ can focus on the semi-skimmed double #keepthefaith

It would certainly be a more persuasive and original business theory. Jonesy could write a companion text - Glue: The Secret of Pan European Fitness...

That could be a lovely Boxing Day present, warm the crowd up.

Look on the bright side, that's two Candy Crush subscriptions that the club doesn't have to pay for.

Really solid pedigree Calderwood, and by all accounts a good bloke, fair play to Russell Martin in terms of judgement. Looks like we have round pegs in round holes on the coaching staff for the first time in years.

Great shout at £4-5m.
