Good point about language, and Ramsdale or Downes could do the job, but I think given his performances last season when he was frequently attempting a one man version of the Alamo, broad shoulders well beyond his years. I think back to when McMenemy made Steve Williams skipper and drew criticism with much older pros in the side, and it added another 20% of bite to his game. I saw flashes of that in Fernandes last season.
-
Agree. Think he was 29 when we sold him to Girona, and still would be a crucial player at 33 had he stayed.
-
Fernandes is the absolute jewel. If we miraculously get another season he needs to be skipper and the team built and focussed around him.

I've heard from a previously reliable source that Solak personally wants to keep those two at Saints 'at all costs.' Despite that, I doubt that we will pull it off but heigh ho. I also think Will Still adds another layer to this selection as his 'if you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem' radar feels quite strong. Certain players prefer cuddles and ego massage, maybe Harwood-Bellis and Dibling fit that profile. Could also be a ginger gee up to Spors as well of course.

Correct, in it's correct usage. Really hoping to see Jack with the water bottles and bingo cards with an official announcement before the season starts.
-
Maybe. Some decent keepers at the end of contracts, but a loan more likely. Also, Fraser Forster and Angus Gunn both out of contract and currently looking for clubs - on balance that would be a tad Lallanaesque - but still think I'd probably take either over Bazunu.

This was the canary in the coalmine transfer area in summer 2023, would be a type of myopic insanity to continue now.

Must have actually jumped for a cross into the box!
-
Looks about as delighted as Prowse did.

Last season the ‘proper manager solidarity endorsement’ usually happened in the post match press conference after Russball had gifted their team three guaranteed points . He’s going large and getting the Glasgow PR in early this season.
-
Yes, most odd. My guess is that Lallana and Stephens were identified as 'important characters' by Spors and Co last season and those deals were already in the pipeline as well as the two lads from Germany. No way Still made the Stephens decision a fortnight after arriving with most of the playing staff on the beach. Like a lot of people have said the last fortnight of the window is going to be the acid test.

This season I will mostly enjoy watching the team!
-
In the interviews so far Still appears very calm and pensive, none of gobby sports teacher of Jones, or OTT false bonhomie of Martin - I like that. He's obviously using the friendlies to weigh up this squad in action, see what they can and can't do before final decision making. Hopefully he will see what the majority fanbase has seen in the past three years, and act accordingly.
-
Or even hire Ant Middleton with a megaphone.
-
What a fucking howler! Wellie looks as delighted as 90% of the fanbase!
-
Maybe theyve given bazunu a bionic left arm and leg which positions him to cover the near post via satellite!

Missed '76, but I was at the League Cup final in 79 with the old man to see the beautiful Admiral classic in top level action. Have always though the traditional strip our best away kits - the marketing drones are missing a trick, with a tweak enough 'creativity' for most Saints fans. Agree the zodiac centenary Arsenal nonsense was an abomination! People also forget that the Admiral classic appeared in another cup final FA Cup final in late 79, when Rod Turner scored a late winner for the Saints against a formidable Leicester Forest side - something the inbreds down the M27 never mention. As far as I know Rod Turner is the only man to win an FA Cup winners medal and Golden Globe!
-
It truly was, looked like a biscuit wrapper. Frankly it would be fucking nuts in the 1976 anniversary season not to have a traditional iconic yellow and blue away kit. You know, the one we won our only major trophy in during our 139 year history! You'd bet on the SFC commercial crew brains trust to do just that!
-
Same.

Would be an odd one to be honest with Still's apparent preference for athleticism and dynamism. I've seen Sylla play as a central midfielder and bullied against Casa Pia, Fonte at 40 had him on toast, he's about 5ft 6ins and 10 stone. His career is three average seasons for the Portuguese equivalent of Ross County.
-
Dell sized mentality!
-
Odd thing was seeing him play in his first few games it seemed patently obvious that he was way off the standard required for a starting PL goalkeeper - genuinely all attributes which make a decent keeper were awol. On relegation, had the club been looking to develop and actually help Bazunu he should have been loaned to a League one or overseas side to build strength, confidence and learn his trade away from the pressure (like we did with Flowers previously). You have to assume someone at Board level in the club is so desperate for a return on investment that they insist on persevering. To me, he looks well short of what we need when Ramsdale goes, and plain daft to continue the pantomime under Still and Spors.

Season before last my seat was in line with 18 yard box and most of those around me used to despair and vocalise when he was picked and the inevitable incompetent fuck up happened, you could feel the collective angst. Say what you see I suppose.

To be honest, I think a couple on here were sucked off by him!

Best Foreign Born Players Playing for Saints
Miltonaggro replied to spyinthesky's topic in The Saints
I rated Dick Van Dyke but his interviews in that fucking mockney accent were appalling!
