  1. No idea, just passing on a comment from solid SFC source. Doubt his AM geography will make any difference to outcome, it will happen of it won’t.
  2. Hearing Rohl is in talks today and close. Think he’s going to be the hire chaps, but let’s see.
  3. Fair enough, but personally I think he’d likely be the final nail in the coffin for the Sport Republic Southampton experiment. Pretty much the polar opposite of what the club currently needs to stabilise and improve.
  4. To be fair it’s a quantum leap in terms of his league football experience. Biggest charge was a short spell as stopgap at Mainz and failed miserably.
  5. My preference, as when Hassenhutl was dismissed, would be someone to stabilise the club, a person with some charisma, presence and energy who can make Saints competitive again, work in the here and now. It’s more a case of acceptance by this seemingly naive board rather than the long-suffering support, can sport republic move from their obsession with over thinking and trying to reinvent the wheel, and show some pragmatism? What we can’t have is another work experience appointment as manager to underwrite our work experience boardroom, don’t necessarily shy away from older more experienced heads looking for a new challenge. A Strachan ‘type’ appointment would probably suit us best right now, but no obvious candidates of this ilk spring to mind. There is some genuine talent in this squad, and with a couple of solid additions in the opening window aligning to the new man’s set up we might yet surprise a few people in terms of fight left in the old dog - manager, team and support.
  6. Don’t worry, what passes for the forum intelligentsia will be sore this morning, even those keeping it under better control. A hatrick of failures called out early by the ‘knuckle draggers’ must wound the collective ego, even when there are only half a dozen of you in the monks’ chain.
  7. Thank fuck for that. Onwards and upwards lads. COYR!
  8. Think Spurs eased off to repay Russ’s generosity!
  9. Ange will proclaim the fool the next big thing whilst banking the away win and plus five GD! Par for the course. Merry Shitmas.
  10. Johnstones paint trophy!
  11. Thanks for summary GS, but what’s he like playing out from the back?
  12. Just what we need to raise the bar, another addition to the current shanty town serving up overpriced crap. At least we are consistent on and off the park.
  13. To be fair a dream team with Rose on the ouija board could work.
  14. I’d take Fred West over Lego.
  15. Yes, that’s right.
  16. Think we’ve been beaten there by the Swansea, forest and Leicester fanbases. Would still take him over Martin.
  17. In the original post I was replying to LD’s comment on Souness and mentioned his character: ‘He’s just the type that sport republic need as Director of Football’ So ‘just the type’ not an option, that would be silly, and a non starter for GS by since his second heart attack. Any conjecture or post conjecture berating of other posters seems to be based on your reaction.
  18. Bless…
  19. Souness fell out with Lowe so only one season at Saints, but a superb player and genuine football pedigree, he knows his onions. I often see him and exchange pleasantries when returning to U.K. from Portugal - private and quiet, but a top man. He’s just the type that sport republic need as Director of Football, but no chance of that as Ankersen and Kraft would last two fucking minutes.
  20. More likely Steve ‘gene pool’ Cooper to be honest, Potter possibly knocking on farmhouse door on a hiking holiday looking to buy some fudge.
  21. I’d even prefer this one than Rusty!
  22. There was an interview a while back with Steve Williams talking about the great Saints sides he played in. These were sides which were always competitive and couldn’t give a shit about who they were playing, you score three we’ll score four. It was based on attacking football, team spirit, work ethic and the blended ability of the players - greater than the sum of the parts. We used to infuriate opposition managers not get patronised by them, Paisley, Clough, Robson respected the club on merit but hated playing us, neutrals rooted for us. Every good saints side I’ve watched in almost forty five years of going to games has had that about them, that’s the thing that sets our club apart from the other provincial clubs. When the club clicks, when it is together it’s a great feeling and a match for anyone. The current moribund mess is about as far away from that as you can get. Despite a snapshot in the play off semi and final, I’ve reached the conclusion that this manager, board and some of the players don’t have a fucking clue about our club!
  23. If this doesn’t do the trick I don’t know what will!!!
