He’s a well-paid narcissist in a position of some power within a relatively large organisation so he will keep attempting to be the loudest voice until he either fails completely or is removed. Shit or bust for Ankersen at SFC. After last season I genuinely thought Solak would combine with Kraft to remove him from the club board over the summer but this did not happen. I think his sales pitch of ‘innovation’ and magic ‘systems’ got Solak to form SR and invest heavily in the first place, so the big lie has to continue or be exposed for what it is. People mentioning that Giles was likely the brains at Brentford. All Giles did was to replicate Cortese in putting the best people you can afford / attract in key positions at your level and allowing them room to impart / impact their knowledge and develop the club. He didn’t impose a system on them other than being successful. Tried and tested business practice, not rocket science.

In a nutshell. The loyal fanbase are the ones able to rely on notions scar tissue and long memories. Perhaps the club ‘intelligentsia’ should take heed once a decade.

The opposite is true, have a look at the history. During the transfer window when the CoT was kindly releasing exclusive snippets we were unbeaten. Towards the end of the window when the group were being called the circle of tits, the circle of twats, receiving death threats from our online ultras etc. some of the CoT SFC players and staff contacts took it very personally. So whilst not pinning all of the blame for our bad run of form and Russell’s implosion on a few hard of thinking posters on here, the reality is that it hasn’t helped. People needed to believe in the process but instead chose to adopt a mob mentality, once again our beloved club let down by a few gobby dinlos.

Good points. Since Sunderland Martin's eyes and demeanour have not been able to lie regardless of what he is saying - he's scared, rattled, and has no idea how to turn this around. The players either can't understand what he wants and / or have no respect for him as a person. He was appointed at a wealthy club recently relegated after over a decade in the Premier League, nothing like his previous appointments, and he is clearly in over his head. Not a nice position to be in but RM needs putting out of his (and our) misery despite the damage to boardroom egos and what's left of our reputation as a football club. If Martin is kept on we will be on a path to mid-table mediocrity and flirting with relegation, so right now it appears to be about damage limitation, rather like the appointment Hughes after Pelligrino, and then Hassenhutl once we could take a breath. If I was in a position of influence it would be about bringing in a no-nonsense manager, a character, to stabilise with an outside chance of the play offs via our stupidly expensive squad - if nothing else this would expose who is worth keeping. Then the club breathes and strategises for auto-promotion next summer. It is shite, but it's where we are now and would at least give us something to cheer for.

A lot of us who were paying attention twenty years ago knew a relegation model for failure (Lowe) and a working model for promotion (Leibherr) already existed and assumed SR would choose the latter not former. To do this we needed to bring in a unifying manager and buy (not loan), experienced, committed players of a high quality for this league and focus squarely on winning football matches and building belief, support and momentum. Not rocket science but you need full buy in. Instead we have Sport Republic doubling down, zero urgency or spirit, bullshitting the fans over summer and fiddling whilst our club burns. We are worse than a laughing stock, we are currently perhaps the best model of failure in English football - that’s Ankersen’s fucking CV entry for what it’s worth.

We discussed RM and the Ipswich game and he told me Martin was a dead man walking, that he’d heard that SR have already decided to pull the plug. Thought it was tongue in cheek, wind up, but he was adamant. Not for one second suggesting ITK but maybe Solak has lost patience already. Martin’s press conferences either side of today’s debacle - bravery, singling out players, leaving a lovely club to come to Southampton, all the young coaches - showed a fragmenting man on the edge. Never nice to see a person in that position but our club needs stabilising right now. Poor bastard is out of his depth.
