  1. Would be brilliant to keep him, even if it was just for the rest of the season. If we do raise any funds and there's the opportunity to spend a bit, then, if it's sufficient, it should be spent on this lad IMO.
  2. How did those who were there feel he did, in his brief little cameo? Any signs that we might have signed a good 'un?
  3. Shame we couldn't have recorded back to back wins but, as the previous poster said, if someone had offered us 4 points before the Reading game, most of us would've taken it - myself included. Next up Charlton: a win there and 7 out of a possible 9 would be a positively healthy return. I must be careful; I'm almost being optimistic.
  4. Happy days! Didn't see this coming at all - shame on me! - but what a fantastic result given our current plight. I feel this will be the story of our season with so many youngsters in the team - great results against the top boys and frustrating defeats against the dross. My jubilation was such that I managed to teach my 2 1/2 year old to shout 'Bradley Wright Wright Wright'!
  5. Damn. He was doing a great job. For us.
  6. Forgot about Gasmi (how could I when he's played all those games for us!). I wonder if we're pinning our hopes on him being able to replace Lallana? And with Pulis to replace Surman, we'll be just fine...
  7. It's interesting that earlier this season Lallana was being linked with Poopey and now suddenly Spurs are back in for him again. Common denominator - 'Arry. Likely destination now I've said this: Fulham! I get the impression that JP's not quite sure what to do with Lallana (i.e. play him in the hole or play him wide - it varies from game to game), hence why I won't be too upset if he moves on. Jason Euell was proving a useful foil for DMG, before his sending off, so maybe if we could get in a pacy right-sided winger to replace Lallana, it could suit us more.
  8. I think a measure of how far we've fallen is evident when you consider this weekend's opponents. In years gone by, particularly the 80s, when we had a game away at Arsenal, Liverpool or Man U there was always the optimism amongst Saints fans that we could go to those places and, if not get a decent result, at least compete. Even in the 90s, when we weren't of the same standard as under Lawrie Mac, there was hope (and sometimes achievement - i.e. wins at Anfield and that 3-3 at Old Trafford). Now I look at the game on Saturday against the 'mighty' Reading, who are considerably better than us in a division below the elite, and my only thought is 'please don't get stuffed'. Such a shame.
  9. GK - Davis RB - Cork LB - Skacel CD - Perry CD - Pearce RW - Lallana CM - Schneiderlin CM - Wotton LW - Surman AM - Euell CF - McGoldrick Subs - Bialkowski, Lancashire, Gasmi, Gobern, Wright-Phillips
  10. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/3842279.Euell_s_impact_praised_by_Poortvliet/ Good news that Euell is going to continue to be involved with the 1st team, IMO. Did well for us at the back end of last season under NP and has done well, in the game and a half he's had so far this season, too. Any experienced (but expensive) player JP can squeeze into the team has got to be a bonus, especially if he's contributing something worthwhile!
  11. Great performances by young players for Arsenal do not necessarily translate to great performances elsewhere. Just ask Ryan Smith, who has hardly set the world alight prior to (& now during) his stay with us!
  12. Plus a free maths lesson too! "All adults will cost £15 All concessions will cost £5 Therefore an adult and child pair is just £20. A family of four would cost just £40." Gosh, what great chaps!
  13. 31. He nearly ran me over outside a chippy outside the Valley a few years back
  14. C'mon lads - repeat of the 2nd half against Preston please!
  15. Absolutely gobsmacked but (obviously) pleasantly so! Well done to all concerned; I can enjoy my Saturday evening, for once, thanks to 2 last minute goals!!!
  16. We're low on ability, low on funds, low on confidence and low on support (at the moment) without Lowe on the touchline too!
  17. I can understand Jan's call to get behind the team but I don't think he's looking at the bigger picture. In the current climate, when money amongst fans is tight, to justify spending £24 a game watching (what is mainly) last year's reserve/youth team (who, last year, you could see for free) is difficult. Don't get me wrong, I love my team and, ordinarily, it really wouldn't bother me that, if and when I can eke out the funds to watch games, I have to watch less established players. But there has to be a product worth watching and what I have seen this year has been poor, with the antics (and apparent lack of application) of players like DMG leaving me feeling that I'm wasting my time and valuable money (which it breaks my heart to say).
  18. Absolutely right. I thought we were counting the pennies not funding players, not required by other teams, for nowt!
  19. Another dreadful result - how much more must we stomach?! The Dutch clowns need to go as does the great experimenter Lowe. Surely there's never been a chairman so willing to experiment and to fail so often. The most damning indictment I can give is that if we keep sides down to 3 at the moment, I'm relatively content given the poor management, poor leadership and the paucity of players able to play at this level. League 1 awaits and I wouldn't bet on us surviving there either.
  20. Oh Crouchie, Crouchie, he used to be a Skate but he's alright now. Can't think why we ditched this one?!
  21. Come on everyone: there were 5 goals in the Coventry game and 3 more today - we're the entertainers, come watch us!!! Send in the clowns, you say...?
  22. If this is true (& I'm not doubting you WS, it's just that players have been known to say the 'right' thing to maintain their own popularity), then I find it ludicrous that we are preventing an international player, willing to fight for his place at a non-top-flight club, from playing, just out of spite. If we're paying his wages, and he wants to play, and the manager considers him the best option in whatever position, in whatever system he wants to play, then he should not be precluded from playing him. If nothing else, if Rudi does well and we still need cash come January, surely his value would've increased?! This has got nothing more than to do with an ego trip, plain and simple, that Lowe's beloved academy can be this club's saviour. What he's overlooking is that the reason most clubs don't blood the majority of their academy in their first XI is not shortsightedness but the simple fact that most clubs realise that most kids won't cut the mustard at whatever level they are at. Very rarely do you get a bumper crop who all come together at once to make it (Man U's Scholes, Giggs, Beckham & the Nevilles etc spring to mind as do the Wallaces, MLT & Shearer for us) and most clubs realise they are likely to produce only one or two top quality youngsters to supplement well thought out signings. Let's be honest, as well as our kids have done at youth level, they've hardly wiped the floor with all and sundry to the extent that you could say they could do so at full league level. I'm all for trying new things to improve our position but this could be seen as a disaster from the outset. I despair at all this, I really do.
  23. I really don't get it. We need to make cut-backs yet we sign loan players at will. The cut-backs I can understand if we are at the behest of the banks. However, call me naiive but it wouldn't it be better to have sold a few of the more talented youngsters - yes Surman and Lallana if need be - and then tried to put together a squad of 20 or so Championship standard players plus a couple of youngsters to supplement them? Surely this would result in a lower wage bill than having a squad of 40 kids and given us a better chance of competing???
  24. The difference is Leicester employed a manager with the nous to get them out of League 1. Should we keep JP and slide into League 1, I just can't bear to think what will happen if we try to play total football with a bunch of kids against real cloggers.
  25. We're a joke club, run by a joke board, putting in joke performances at the mo. Missing 2 penalties is pathetic, as was the defending by all accounts.
