  1. This makes a lot of sense. Some players need more closely 'managing' than others and similarly there will be those where everything's like water off a duck's back and others that get affected by criticism and need bigging up. Of course, it could also be that he's a disruptive influence and wants out.
  2. Yes we all know we have shit strikers, so we have to create more chances. We can't give AA a couple of chances in a match and expect him to put one away every game. Similarly, Archer can't be expected to score on the one chance he gets. The team is set up too negatively. Our attack is vertically challenged so we have to play to their strengths. Whip crosses in along the ground, shoot from outside the penalty area and follow up on the rebounds.
  3. So does Spors fall in to either of these categories? Is he considered good enough to be enticed elsewhere? Leo Scienza looks to be his best find. Can't argue with Azaz and Fellows being brought in from other Championship contenders, but his main fishing is in the leagues he knows best and I would question whether they're as physical as the Championship. And he targeted our major weakness early by finding a striker but how can you find someone so bad?
  4. I have only dredged this thread up because I am curious at to what is really happening with this lad. Last time in the Championship, he was one of, if not the stand out players. Can't believe he's in a huff just because his old manager friend is no longer with us. With Charles injured, surely we can bring this guy back in to the fold. He is a sideways man but that's a frame of mind which can be changed and he got himself around the pitch a lot before.
  5. Tall yes but there's no real muscle there. Downs is particualrly flyweight. Absolutely no presence whatsoever. Whereas that Bristol City sub last week seemed to brush our defence aside every time he had the ball.
  6. Absolutely this. What I've seen with Matsuki's cameos, he looks a tidy player but he can't replace the likes of Fellows or Azaz...though he could have been on the bench at Blackburn! What I don't understand is why our recruiters didn't bring in any muscle. They'll all the same ilk. Matsuki & Downs are particularly lightweight.
  7. His substitutions have been consistently poor all season. But what I don't get is surely there are coaches and players at the club that should be advising him to try four at the back and what substitutions could work. If the entire fanbase is screaming wtf are you doing (which most of us are) surely the players and coaches must be too
  8. £31 for concession ticket is better value but these evening games are hard going to watch our muppets. Reckon it's better to turn up and voice our opinion than stay away. I remember at Palace there was the "You don't know what you're doing" chant to Jones..and that worked.
  9. Wouldn't go that far, S-Clarke. Chansiri put zero in to the club. Venkys haven't put in much more (£4.85m). Then there's the Oystons at Blackpool. We could do a lot worse. Don't know how Ankersen and Solak hooked up. Was Ankersen touting his wares to wealthy businessmen and Solak got sucked in or are they somehow mutual friends? Makes a difference. I'd like Solak to reach out to the likes of us fans and seek advice. But would he get a cohesive answer?
  10. My two favourite managers of recent times as well. Still remember that Christmas Hassenhutl song at Villa. Good times. I know it's not always good to return to a former club but where's Moyes at the moment? At Bristol last week, there was murmurings that Ralph was watching the game. A poster mentioned he is good friends with the manager of Bristol City. Ralph was also manager at RB Leipzig when Spors was a scout there. Any chance Spors invited Ralph to watch the game?
  11. But that's because they don't know what it is. I vaguely recall he said at the beginning of the season he would let the players express themselves. Well, I'm pretty sure Azaz didn't say I'll play so deep I want to pick up the ball on our penalty area, and Fellows probably didn't put his hand up and ask to play wing back. In fact, what are his tactics? It just looks a mess.
  12. It's when you put the pieces together, you realise how shambolic yesterday's game was. Players who should have been there not being there; awful formation; players getting in each other's way and bumping in to each other more than once; main striker missing two one-on-ones; piss poor substitutions (one literally remaining nameless)...the list goes on. It really does need sorting and Mr Solak needs to bring in management and read them the riot act.
  13. But the value of the club must go down when languishing in the lower leagues. Surely projected media revenues outweigh profits on players so their goal has to be premier league football. Dragan Solak has tried to change things but he isn't a football man and he hasn't got the footballing contacts. Somehow we need convince him that there are Southampton people with SFC's interests at heart who can provide better value and direction for the club than the clowns he keeps picking.
  14. It's the old motto there's no 'i' in team and SR/Spors have given Still a bunch of individuals who can be good but he is not turning them in to a team. The reason is sadly he is woefully out of his depth. Never liked Martin's tactics but he would often see a situation and bring on substitutes that positively changed the game. Still has no idea. No idea which formation to start, no idea which team to pick and no idea how to use substitutes and it's his subs that really highlight his ineptness. Really wanted him to succeed because I think he's a genuine guy, but I think his days are numbered.
  15. Wow, that was Sunday morning pub team football but we are marginally the better pub team. Looks like we have found a Brazilian that can actually play football. Never seen Oyekunle play but get him on.
  16. What's happened to Matsuki? Last time we saw him, he came on as sub and scored a worldie....ah, that could be it!
  17. It's so important to have some muscle in the team. Who have we got? The image I have from this season so far is this 19 year old Watford kid running towards our goal (and our end) and almost swatting away any defender that got near him. He also had great ball control.
  18. Exactly. Football itself is losing its sense of direction. There's more focus on what the score should say that what is actually happening. Tomorrow Blackburn xG 0.1, Southampton xg 0.1. It's going to be close.
  19. Jack Walker, a football fan brought in football management and football players (didn't Shearer come from us?). When he passes away, a bunch of rich chancers take over to have a toy to play with....oh oh! Did find it amusing that a couple said if we draw tomorrow it might not be enough to save Still's job.
  20. I think that's the thing, Whitey. Watching Brentford against West Ham, Brentford had so many chances and they only put a couple away. Our forwards get one maybe two chances a match and we say "how on earth did he miss that?", "should have won that game but for xxxx's miss". Sod xG or whatever the stats are called. In reality, I'm going to the games and can see we're not creating enough chances.
  21. The comparison with us is that we had to search around for a buyer after going in to administration and "Liebherr is our saviour" came along. Don't know the rules about forcing an owner to sell but hopefully Wednesday can find their own Liebherr.
  22. Bit like last time we played Blackburn at Ewood Park! Problem is, every team we've played has a nucleus of players who can barge and muscle through the opposition. We've got no-one up front who can do that and watching Ronnie Edwards trying to push players off balance is all rather sad.
  23. No, nothing against the manager. In fact, at the end of the game he came the closest to acknowledging the 3,600 or so fans that made the trip. I only heard we were going to be on the pitch if Downs scored...some hope that.
  24. When Still joined, one of his 'selling points' was he adapts to the situation...but he doesn't. Yes, when he's played four at the back from the start, results haven't been good, but he's got to see what the opposition are doing and change accordingly. Flynn Downes was one of our best pivotal players last time in the championship. Azaz and Fellows aren't being used as they should. He's got to sacrifice a centre back - and not Wood! Sheff Utd tried something new in Selles, then realised it wasn't working and brought back someone who knows what they're doing in Wilder and results are already going their way. At this rate, Still won't have long to go.
  25. Haven't gone back more than a couple of pages on this thread so it might have been mentioned before but where we were in the ground people reckoned they could see Ralph Hassenhutl at the game... Like you say Pamplemousse, we can change the manager but the buck doesn't stop with him. I just can't see why we aren't more positive and more direct. It's not just our club but teams have got to work out ways to break down these teams that park the proverbial bus. Run at them. One touch passes. Speed up play.
