  1. Last season (2010/11) shows up an interesting stat :- Saints - 32-8-13 (60%-15%- 25%) No surprise if I say Adam was our most important player :-26-4-5 (74%-11%-14%). However Alex record was only :- 16-7-7 (53%-23%-23%), which was below the average for the team.
  2. You can sign a Goalkeepers at any time (section 54) subject to certain conditions, they are not cover by the loan windows (53.2.2). http://www.football-league.co.uk/regulations/20110629/section-6-players_2293633_2125731 Whether they could afford the cost of an "independent medical pratitioner" is another question.
  3. Nigel's post match comments http://audioboo.fm/boos/716070-nigel-adkins-speaks-to-bbcradiosolent-after-his-side-s-3-2-victory-at-millwall
  4. Exactly. It closes at 17:00 on March 22nd unless it is a goalkeeper (Reg 54) who can be signed at anytime (subject to certain conditions). http://www.football-league.co.uk/regulations/20110629/section-6-players_2293633_2125731
  5. Well their os says a 1000 have bought tickets to the game but NOT a coach ticket. . http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/LatestNews/news/Important-Southampton-Travel-Info-3222.aspx
  6. This is what they were up against to win their award (2 teams from each div) Cardiff (won it last year - clubs don't win 2 years running), Dag & Red, Udders (won L1), Swindon (won L2) & Tranmere. http://www.football-league.co.uk/flawards/news/20120309/shortlist-in-focus-tokio-marine-family-club-of-the-year_2293338_2642290 They won it because of :- "family specific ticket offers" - but some would say that reduces their match day income. "1st time fan guide" - but their attendances have gone down this year "some kids sleeping on the pitch" - most other clubs employ security guards overnight. If you want a LAUGH try viewing the video http://www.football-league.co.uk/flawards/news/20120311/portsmouth-is-tokio-marine-family-club-of-the-year_2293338_2645056 9 kids in the Stands !? Liam saying we are all in this together etc - just before he leaves. the disallowed "goal" against Leeds from the throw - well they didn't have much choice with their managers tactics. the lady saying "you can teach anything through football ... including maths" - but of course not how the balance the books at a football club. the video freezes after 2:35 just as the lady is about to give her speech - perhaps the FL don't what it to be known why they gave her the award or did they just run out of money.
  7. It would be nice to send them down at Easter however imo their 7 home and 4 away games (3 of which are against - Coventry, Donny and Forest) is going to make it closer than the 8 points they are adrift at the moment. Big game for them on Saturday against Bristol. One additional issue is that the FL site says they have Halford on 9 bookings and Ben-Hain on 8 bookings http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/Discipline/0,,10794~201110396~7,00.html and the 10 booking - 2 match ban cutoff date is after our game (2nd sunday in April). I wonder if either of those players will decide to opt out of our game by getting booked just before it (e.g. they will of course blame the FL for not allowing them to bring in more players, rather than the player getting 10 bookings). The question for me is whether Saints put out their strongest side against the Cheats with Palace 2 days later and Reading 6 days later (3 games in 6 days).
  8. I have a clueless clown who sits a few rows behind me in the Chapel who has a go a Guly from the 1st min of every match. Such comments within the first 30 seconds are "he useless ... he should be playing parks league football, not good enough for us etc ", and this is usually before he has even touched the ball. Most people around me just LAUGH AT HIM. He came up with some classics yesterday. "he useless, he has come inside too much, he should stay on the wing to give us width....", "what he doing in the middle, he should be on the wing"...., "fxxxing useless he should be taking the fullback on not coming inside .." As there are a few like our "Chapel Clown" on here, perhap I should repeat what I said earlier. Nigel changed our system after about 25/30 mins yesterday from a "flat 4 in midfield with 2 wide players" to combat the opposition's 4-5-1 system (their 3 in central midfield were outnumbering our 2). He went to a 4-1-3-2 system where Morgan was anchor and Guly, Adam and Dean playing narrow but interchanging positions. Guly played well in this system and it caused barnsley a lot of problems, they had no answer to our change of system. But of course this didn't stop our Chapel Clown, he was still moaning about Guly not being on the wing taking on the fullback, every time a sub was warming up he said "it must be Guly going off", and "Steve played well the other night, he should be coming on to play down the right because Guly has gone missing from there". etc. I didn't hear this myself but he has supposely said to somebody around us (when Guly had a major part in the wins against millwall or boro ?) that the reason he dislikes Guly so much was that "If we hadn't signed him we would still have Alan P as manager and look they are 3rd in the PL now. That where we WOULD BE if we hadn't signed Guly". !?!? As I said most people just LAUGH at the Chapel Clown.
  9. Guly was one of our better players today. As soon as Nigel changed systems (after 25 -30 mins) from a flat 4 in midfield to morgan as the anchor and the other 3 (Adam, Guly & Dean) in more advanced roles, we were twice the team we had been in the first 25/30mins. He and Adam looked really good in that advanced midfield roles and I liked that 4-1-3-2 system, it went along way to finding a system that combats the 4-5-1 system that other teams have been using against us. (Their wide players stopping our full backs getting forward and the 3 in central midfield were out numbering our 2).
  10. 58, born almost in Southampton (the 1954 boundary changes moved the Southampton boundary out to include where I lived). My first game was a 3-2 win in 1960 and because my father was a Toon supporter I always thought it must have been against Newcastle, however when Duncan book came out I realised it must have been against Sunderland (15 Oct). I remember sitting on his shoulders for some of the game so I could see. I also remember we went to the 2nd or 3rd turnstile from the left in the Milton Road and I was lifted over the turnstile after the gateman was slipped some money, so the Official Attendance for that game is one out. My first away game was WHU in 1970 when eight mins in Tommy Jenkins picked the ball up just inside his own half right in front of me and dribbled from the left wing past the whole WHU team before slipping the ball under the goalkeeper in the inside right channel (i remembered it was with his right foot but Duncan's book says l-foot !?) I was also one of the very few at Everton in 1974 and saw Osgood first goal for Saints. I hoped that we would win and that Brum would lose that day and we would be safe, however ....
  11. I see the boo boys are out in force again today, what do they do have a post waiting in the "draft folder" waiting for the next time Saints drop points. IMO many posters have not given Ipswich enough credit as a team. They had won 5 out of 6 coming into the game including a 5-1 win over west ham. They have a system of 4-5-1 (really 4-3-2-1) where they have 3 in central midfield to outnumber our 2 so that we do not get as much "control of the ball" as we would like (we tried to get Guly to "play narrow" to even the numbers up). Their 2 wide players are there to stop our full backs getting forward so that we cannot get the width. Their back 4 were always "pushing up" to compress the midfield so that they always had 2 players on any one of our players e.g. Adam. Whenever they had a goalkick they put all 11 players on one side of the pitch, i.e they were "compressing the pitch" to stop us "making the pitch big". At the end of the day we had enough chances to get 1-0 up and win the game, even with the system they were playing. The only change I would have made would have been "more direct", and have more runners off Rickie. This would/should have meant their back 4 would have needed to defend deeper and therefore allow more space in midfield for us to play.
  12. The original judgment can be found here :- http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Ch/2004/1020.html Point 17 says :- IMO the Football Creditor Rule has become a "sham or device adopted to disguise payments by the company to non-preferential creditors ahead of preferential creditors."
  13. A "10 min rule" is being proposed for Tuesday 13th at the House of Commons http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm/cmfbusi/e01.htm
  14. The Torygraph say that the "Football Regularity Authority" under the control of the FA are going to control football ownership instead of the PL and FL. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/news/9109835/New-independent-body-to-regulate-ownership-of-football-clubs-in-proposal-to-be-handed-to-Government.html (Not unclear to Saintsweb, we all knew they had NO money) Now who do we know who is currently out of a job who has been "training for the last couple of years" on all the dodgy deals in football who could head up that department.
  15. http://www.footballfriendsonline.com/writers/ I wonder if this is the Ben McAleer http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/ben-mcaleer/44/936/285 Claims to be a Freelance Football writer from Southampton. Didn't we have somebody on here awhile ago who was call "Ben" ?
  16. Nigel's post match interview on Radio Solent (3m 58 s) http://audioboo.fm/boos/684328
  17. If anyone is writing to the FL about this or to Leeds supporters the relevent section in the FL rules is 33.2.7 & 33.2.8 http://www.football-league.co.uk/regulations/20110629/section-5-fixtures_2293633_2125729#30
  18. There is also some more in the Section (49) about "49 Transfer/Compensation Fees Method of Payment" http://www.football-league.co.uk/regulations/20110629/section-6-players_2293633_2125731
  19. Reading the Football League rules I believe they should be subject to a transfer embargo. http://www.football-league.co.uk/regulations/20110629/section-4-clubs_2293633_2125725 I don't think things have changed by going into Admin on Friday. I still think they are subject to a "Default Event" because they still owe PAYE & NIC and therefore SHOULD still have a Transfer Embargo in place imo. (The Admin just protected them from a winding-up order).
  20. Even if the Court Case isn't going to take place on Monday it is still nice to see Winding Up order in the High Court. http://www.justice.gov.uk/guidance/courts-and-tribunals/courts/hearing-lists/list-companies-winding-up.htm Who is the 2012 Club ? Did I miss the 2010 club being WU already and this is the next one being WU. (? if they hadn't gone into Admin today would that winding up order have been actioned as it lists the wrong Company name ?)
  21. It WAS Mrs Proudman earlier this afternoon in Court 10, they appear to have changed it in the last couple of hours to a new Judge with NO cases before it.
  22. Here is the list for tomorrow in Court 10 (of the Rolls Building) before MRS JUSTICE PROUDMAN. There are a number of cases (10 ?) before the Cheats FC so could it be delayed until the afternoon (?). http://www.justice.gov.uk/guidance/courts-and-tribunals/courts/hearing-lists/list-cause-rolls.htm
  23. Daniel Geey who is a Football Lawyer working for Field Fisher Waterhouse has said on Twitter that there is a Football League meeting today. http://twitter.com/#!/footballlaw
  24. The big penalty points (i.e. -17 etc) only come when they EXIT administration via the "exceptional circumstances" rule, i.e without a cva. (see my post from the 3rd Jan http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?14620-Pompey-Takeover-Saga&p=1226565#post1226565) I hope that Cheats FC are not trying to cheat again - i.e. use the money they have got today to pay off HMRC and then go into Admin with only CSI as a creditor. AA gives them a cva and they rejoin the league without further penalty points ??
  25. 1/ I see Gillingham fans believe the lies that the Cheats have been telling them. This is a link to a Gillingham fans site where it says that their Chairman - Paul Scally supports the Football Creditors rule. http://www.gillsconnect.com/s/Gills_News_Desk/Entries/2012/2/6_SCALLY_SUPPORTS_THE_FOOTBALL_CREDITORS_RULE.html In his comments he says "Portsmouth FC (left bottom), who became the first Premier League club to enter administration in 2010, their players and other football creditors were paid in full, around £30m, while other creditors received just 16p for every pound owed.". As everyone on here knows the "other creditors have not received" anything yet. Yet what really made my blood boil was the picture they showed - it is a picture of the inside of the "Toilet Bowl", as if they believe it has already been built. 2/ I see somebody has started up an e-petition to get the Football Creditors Rule overturned http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/4134 3/ There is also an e-petition asking the Goverment to Tax the Cheats like any other business (it is a pity about the "busSiness" spelling. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/28780 I'm sure we can get these 2 petitions higher
