  1. IMO Guly plays well when he has alot of players making runs off of him. He has a good football brain and can see the runs e.g yesterday for Richardson, or Steve at Reading etc. He knows when to come inside from wide areas and when to stay wide etc. Yesterday the whole team were very mobile, we always had 2 or 3 making runs for him (and other players). This imo makes him a good team player to have. Guly plays poorly when the team is stationary and each player stays in his own area of the pitch, he is never going to be a player who will produce an individual dribbling run, he is not that type of player. The supporters who critise him when he loses the ball should look at the rest of the team and I guarantee that they will be stood stationary, taking a rest or walking back from an offside position. IMO I don't think certain supporters have realised that the style of football played by the club has changed since AP left. Nigel likes to play "pass and move" and the focus is on "team work" and "movement off the ball" and players who can play different systems, hence he likes Guly. He is NOT a rigid "old school" type manager who only plays 442 and focuses on "individual skill" from a player (e.g dribbling past x players etc), however I think certain supporters still hanker for that type of player (and manager).
  2. I believe his full record against us is :- 2010/11 brentford (a) Won 3-0 2009/10 TORQUAY (H) JPT 2-2 won on pens 2008/09 WATFORD (H) lost 0-3 2006/07 YEOVIL (H) LC Won 5-2; qpr (a) Won 2-0; COLCHESTER (H) lost 1-2 2005/06 WOLVES (H) drew 0-0 4w - 1d - 2l (if you count the JPT as a win ) and burnley :- 2010/11 norwich (a) drew 2-2; IPSWICH (H) lost 1-2 2008/09 donny (a) lost 2-1 2007/08 PALACE (H) drew 1-1 2006/07 sunderland (a) lost 3-2 2005/06 PLYMOUTH (H) won 1-0 2004/05 cardiff (a) lost 2-0 1w - 2d - 4l
  3. As a cherry fan can I suggest you read "Broken Dreams" by Tom Bower (page 245). Here are a couple of quotes :- ? was he on a percentage ?
  4. Remove 1976 & 1988 and add 1911 plus of course the cheating in 1898. In the mid 70's they decided against CHEATING for once. http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Portsmouth/Portsmouth.htm
  5. If you add in the dates for the Police raid where they cocked up the Search Warrant http://www.bailii.org/cgi-bin/markup.cgi?doc=/ew/cases/EWHC/Admin/2008/1177.html 29 Nov 2007 Search warrant of arry's place in Sandbanks in which a "Lap top computer and some bank statements" were removed (point 20) 02 May 2008 "declare that the warrant was issued unlawfully and quash the warrant.", therefore the above items could not be used in court. It would have been nice to know if there was anything on that lap top that the Police/HMRC had for 6 months. Of course it couldn't have been any of arry's stuff because he told the court he didn't know how to use a computer or send an email.
  6. I hope fans do not underestimate burnley as they are on a good run at the moment. In their last 12 league games their recond is 8W 2D 2L with a gd of +13. This compares to our start to the season 8-2-2 gd +14. Away from home they have WON 5 of their last 6 league games i.e. wins at hull (2-3), west ham (1-2), seaweed (0-1), boro (0-2) and forest (0-2). Their only defeat was at leeds (2-1) where they played the last hour with 10 men and only lost to 88 & 97 min goals. They have a "method" for playing away from home that is designed to frustrate the home fans. They are also TOP of "Shooting Table" http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/ClubShooting/0,,10794~20117,00.html 207 On target; 195 off and 10 woodwork (412) compared to our 183-162-9 (354). That is 16% more attempts on goal that us!! For me Saturday is ALL about the supporters, if the Itchen & Kingsland sit there and "WAIT TO BE ENTERTAINED" then we will drop points imo. We need an atmosphere like whu or boro games with non stop chanting, even when we don't have the ball and they are camped around our penalty area.
  7. On a slightly different subject I believe the High Court is going to give a decision the "Murphy decoder/ Sky TV" tomorrow. It is marked as "FA Premier League v QC Leisure" in Court 70 before Justice Kitchin. http://www.justice.gov.uk/guidance/courts-and-tribunals/courts/hearing-lists/list-appeal-civil.htm If you want to listen to a 30 min podcast by Daniel Geey about the legal arguments (incl the broadcasting of games at 3 O'clock on Sat), it is here. http://www.beyondthepitch.net/podcasts/edition/index.cfm/beyond-the-pitch/2011/10/06/daniel-geey/
  8. This paper said we released Saville last night. http://www.times-series.co.uk/sport/localsport/9506680.Saville_set_to_rejoin_Bees/
  9. Billy's first game at St Marys in 2004. From what I remember he played well and got the better of Mills most times, however Crainie was class that night and won everything in the air and on the ground.
  10. My reading of the FL rules says that we will have to sign him on loan first and then sign him on Transfer Forms after the match. http://www.football-league.co.uk/regulations/20110629/section-6-players_2293633_2125731
  11. Alan Nixon has been talking about Hooper on Twitter this morning after some questions from Saints fans http://twitter.com/reluctantnicko re a question about Jay Rod he said
  12. I think this is his agent http://www.sjdentmgt.com/Gary-Hooper/Our-Clients/ Simon Dent, a London based Solicitor.
  13. So sometime in 2008 he lets on about "Rosie47", it would be nice to know which month ? When did he tell his Accountant was it was mentioned the other day ? Because at 6:06 on the 29 Nov 2007 the Police raid a house in Sandbanks with a search warrant, and "a lap top computer and some bank statements were in fact removed" (point 5 & 20 on link). R is then arrested on return from Germany, bailed and then rebailed until 23 May 2008 (point 22). 2 May 2008 the Warrant is deamed to have been issued unlawfully at the High Court (didn't show it to Mrs- point21; didn't complete PACE 8.3 correctly - point 16 etc). (Which I believe means that items seized cannot be used in a Court Case). http://www.bailii.org/cgi-bin/markup.cgi?doc=/ew/cases/EWHC/Admin/2008/1177.html
  14. Can I just remind everyone of some quotes from the Echo on the 8 July 2009 (I think we know who the "source" is). http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4479991.Markus_Liebherr_is_the__ideal_owner__for_Saints/
  15. I wonder if Southampton Airport have found an answer to who left this money in a bag ? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-16607881
  16. There was an excellent book produced in 2003 called "Broken Dreams" by Tom Bower that talked about the "vanity, greed and the souring of British Football". (IMO it should be a MUST READ for all Football fans). Harry has a whole chapter to himself in which it mainly talks about the Ferdinand transfer to Leeds where he certainly was paid £300k by Brown (p241). However on p232 it says "Despite WHU limited finances, Redknapp appeared to be obsessed by trading players. One hundred and thirty-four players would be transferred during his seven years of management". I wonder if he was on a percentage of the deals then ?
  17. The Football League introduced new rules re paying taxes to HMRC on the 12 June 2009, here is the news item :- http://www.football-league.co.uk/footballleaguenews/20090612/clubs-approve-new-tax-regulations_2293334_1691419 Why were they allowed to sign a player last week ? The rules are in Section 17 http://www.football-league.co.uk/regulations/20110629/section-4-clubs_2293633_2125725 Did they notify the FL of the "default event" in December ?
  18. I really shoudn't need to say this, but for the sake of those who still don't 'get it'... You stole Premiership status and an FA Cup with a lot of money that wasn't yours and then went bust for millions- and you still havent learned Exactly. They still haven't learned from last time. After the last admin a couple of years ago what did they do when they sold Wilson to Stoke for many millions (£6m ??) ? a) use the money to correct the problems in the club with regard to income/expenditure (as per Saints and other clubs) or b) use the money to buy in Kitson and Lawrence on weekly wages of £19k & £20k (I believe the News quotes those figures) and carry on as if there is nothing wrong with not paying taxes.
  19. I wrote to them on the 4th Dec re the £10.8m loan and an "unfair advantage to other clubs" and received the following reply on the 7th Dec. I bet you get the same reply. On a related subject I see HMRC went after the directors of Luton Town http://www.bis.gov.uk/insolvency/news/news-stories/2011/Sep/Former-directors-of-Luton-Town-banned
  20. This article on their o/s shows their P & L for the last 5 years. http://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/page/LatestHeadlines/0,,10413~2518841,00.html Their 1 year in the PL (£14,447,000) has covered the losses in the previous years getting to the top flight. They then made a loss last year of £4M. Therefore IMO I think they will need to sell in the summer if not before. Some quotes from the report
  21. They appear to be in front of the Judge tomorrow morning (Friday). http://www.courtserve.net/courtlists/current/crown/sthwk_T120120.01.htm Court 8 at 10:00 before Judge Leonard. I think it is "For Mention" although it is not 100% clear. I see the "Contempt of Court" note is still in place so there will be no reporting of the case.
  22. The 4th Offical is due to be Andy D'Urso. Those of you near the dugouts will have a chance to tell him what you think of his refereeing at brighton a couple of weeks ago. The Ref is due to be Neil Swarbrick. Last Saints game was a 3-1 win at Hartlepool in 2009, before that a 1-1 draw at Coventry and a 2-1 defeat at Stoke in 2007.
  23. I think this is his agent http://www.sjdentmgt.com/Gary-Hooper/Our-Clients/ and here are some of his quotes IMO "big him up"; "put him in the press" => new pay deal; 2012 Olympics;
  24. For those without Saints player the FA have put the goals up on their site (after a 30 sec advert). http://www.thefa.com/video/FA-Competitions/FA-Youth-Cup/2011-12/4RP/Bolton-1-2-Southampton
  25. No, however in the past they have often been on a Thursday usually in the 2nd week of the month i.e. this Thursday. If you are a twitter person you could ask them on http://twitter.com/football_league , you MAY get an answer. I believe there is a big meeting in Feb of all 72 clubs to discuss the Financial Fair Play rules.
