Mallory is famously quoted as having replied to the question "Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?" with the retort: "Because it's there", which has been called "the most famous three words in mountaineering". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Mallory

"The Climb" by Anatoli Boukreev is another good book to read. Gives a different perspective on the 1996 events. Boukreev got a lot of stick in "Into Thin Air" and felt he needed to get his side of the story out there.

"The male walker was hit at the junction of Onslow Road in Bevois Valley by a VW Passat at about 5pm. He was taken by ambulance to Southampton General with injuries that were not thought to be life threatening." http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/8443151.Traffic_chaos_after_cyclist_and_pedestrian_accident/ Hope both are on the mend.

I dont consider Berghaus to be chavvy either. Its origins are in outdoor clothing (and very good quality at that), it all went wrong for them (or right from a commercial point of view) when this happened... Liam Gallagher wearing a Berghaus at Glastonbury c.1996, forced the brand into the main stream. Most of the people you see wearing one have probably never seen a tree, let alone climb a mountain etc...

Ive generally got them from car boot's and 2nd hand shops, there was a 2nd hand book shop just off soton high street a few years ago that used to have quite a few. I pay anything from about 50p to £20 / £30. Funnily enough, my prized atlas, which was printed in 1899, cost 50p from Bursledon car boot !!! Its worth considerably more !!

Cant believe no one has mentioned Butterfield. Consistantly solid at RB, played every game.

I think so too, I got them out a few years back and found that I have 3 of the "Last 17", could be worth quite a bit now. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=star+wars+last+17&_sacat=0&_dmpt=UK_ToysGames_ActionFigures_ActionFigures_JN&_odkw=yak+face&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

Ive still got all of my old Star Wars figures from when I was a kid. At the time, I wasnt collecting them as such, just wanted them all so I could play with them. Now they are stored away somewhere under the stairs, I guess you could call it a collection (although it hasnt been added to since the late 80's !!!) Nowadays, I collect atlases, the older the better, have about 40'ish I guess. One day, I hope to get my hands on something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUPERB-HOMANN-ATLAS-COMPENDARIUS-52-COL-MAPS-1752-/170336848193?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item27a8de0941 NB: If anyone has any old atlases for sale (pre 1920's) please PM me.

Yep. Loving it. Like others on here, have listened to all the podcasts etc. Gervais, Merchant and Pilkington are responsible for making me lol on many a quiet train!!! Some of stuff he comes out with has me in fits of laughter, some of my favs.. "Does the brain control you or are you controlling the brain? I don't know if I'm in charge of mine." "I find that if you just talk, your mouth comes up with stuff." "Whether it's a potato or a nut, it's a foodage!" "So I was watchin David Attenborough.. he makes his money out of flies and that dun' he" http://www.pilkipedia.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Karl_Pilkington_Quotes_By_Topic Loving "An idiot abroad", the first 2 episodes are brilliant, an hour isnt long enough imho. The Taj Mahal episode was particularly funny as I have been to India and could relate to a lot of the "issues" Karl was having.

Yep, we may need to start a seperate thread....."If you believe in Jesus, when do you believe he was born" as you can tell from my avatar, I dont believe in Jesus....but, most people that DO believe, accept that he was born sometime around 4/5 BC. Dont let the BC bit confuse you..... http://wiki.answers.com/Q/When_was_Jesus_born
-
Jesus ? Edit: Sorry, my Jesus guess was genuine, I didnt read the OP properly and confused 4th Century A.D with 4BC.
