One of the few players who has some physical presence - thought he was decent in the championship
-
ultimately if the players trust the process the rest will take care of itself. wonder how many he will try and take with him ? Got to be a good chance Bazanu goes, fraser - possibly Edozie. Suspect Downes' wages will be too high but maybe Smallbone as well.

The Benefits of the Sport Republic Group Model (Split)
Galway saint replied to AlexLaw76's topic in The Saints
Spot on. The failure to sign players capable of performing now, rather than for their potential is largely responsible for this mess. All of this stuff about giving the new team a chance is fine and we get that sentiment at this time of year. There were people spouting the same crap when we were signing BBD, Archer etc last season.. We we have no choice but to cross our fingers and hope. The first test for me is the GK. If they announce Baz as No.1 then its the same old shit in different clothes and they have learnt nothing. -
No idea whether this is a good appointment or not. Its been quite a while since we made a good appointment or indeed did anything right. A lot depends on recruitment as we have so many shit players. The first test for me will be whether he has Bazanu as No.1. If he is then that will be a big red flag for me as either he cant identify a poor keeper or he can but there is still interference from those running the club

Saints 1-2 Arsenal - Thank F**k it’s All Over Thread
Galway saint replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
Its been abysmal. Have we ever been so uncompetitive during an entire season in our history ? Still beggars belief that the club thought a forward line of BBD, Archer, Stewart and TP would be enough to keep us up. Speaks volumes about the footballing acumen of the people running the club. -
We need an experienced manager ideally with championship pedigree who and we may well appoint someone who is 32 and has no experience of the championship. What could possibly go wrong ? Maybe it works and maybe it doesnt but we seem incapable of taking the conventional option. We always seem to be trying to be smart, rather than astute. guess at some point we will appoint someone decent and if it is still maybe its him but no one on here will be surprised if it doesn't work out. frankly unless we start signing some decent players it doesn't matter who is manager

The rumours around steve ogrizovic aren't going away Could we see him as player manager ? Need to bring that concept back into the game.
-
This season has been total crap as a Saints fan but as a neutral it's been really dull. The lack of any real jeopardy has been a significant contributor to that so I think the PL does care or it should as part of the attraction of the league used to be anyone can beat anyone but that's not really true anymore
-
Watched the game and Blades were way better, but what's the point ? I can't see they have any real prospect of staying up if promoted. I like the play offs but the Championship instalment feels anticlimactic and a bit of a poisoned chalice really. Looks like the fans thought so too as the ground wasn't full. What's the solution ? You've got to try and stay in your first season but FFP seems to have killed that. If Leeds, Burnley and the play off winners come straight back down the league is in a bit of trouble and it's starting to look like a closed shop

well done saints

We are shit at recruitment using traditional methods so can this be worse than the methodology that landed us with Edozie, Bazanu etc ? Very possibly as it's Saints but feels like we have much bigger problems
-
In the words of Jim White, 'this is massive' Fully respect the decision to play five at the back in a game of this importance.
-
I've watched some of the highlights when he was playing in belgium and it just seems more of the same really his biggest failing is his positional sense - concedes odd goals as he gets himself in the wrong positions and isn't physically big enough to correct those said it time and time again he is not a goalkeeper if the club reinstate him as number 1 it will be a clear signal to me that nothing has changed
-
for who though ? cobh ramblers ?
-
We could do a lot worse than Steve Ogrizovic - my only reservation being, would he know the 'southampton way' ?
-
I quite like Tessem and prefer him to Merrington but each to their own
-
The refresh paid dividends. Juric would have lost that one 5-0 and we would have had no shots on target. Hopefully we can all now agree it makes fuck all difference who the manager is. Does anyone know why Tessem wasn't on solent ?
-
We also have Baz and Edozie returning to add to the shit heap. It beggars belief how we have accumulated so much crap over the past few years.
-
It's a big bus and it's going places
-
Watched the PSG game and Villa clearly struggled against their wingers and if we can play to the same level as PSG did, we will win this. Shame we don't have Edozie to rip them a new one in the same way Doue did.
-
yes he reminds me of a young frank lampard - if he's half the coach Frank is he will be some coach. We are lucky to have him on the bus
-
We are such a shambles at the moment I would't be surprised if we offered the guy an extension if he played a few games between now and the end of the season frankly whenever he has played he's looked very average - think he had one shot but might be wrong
-
It doesn't matter who we appoint as manager in the PL as until we sign some ( a lot) decent players the story will be the same. We have a really poor squad. We don't need to spend hundreds of million but next time round (if there is a next time) we have to spend money on several proven PL players who can hit the ground running. The gap is also now so wide the promoted teams are uncompetitive - can anyone really see Burnley, Sheffield United and Leeds staying up next year ? It's been the most dull year of PL football I can remember. No title race and the relegation spots effectively confirmed months ago.
-
I'd be minded to look at Bazanu as manager with Edozie as his assistant. No one will buy those two so we may as well put them to use and it might be our best bet of keeping them away from the pitch. What a shambles of a season. You can blame all the managers we have had over the past few years but when you buy crap like the two above for £20 million + you are going to end up in the dumpster. I thought this season would be tough after the Forest game but it's surpassed my worst expectations and by the end I felt nothing when we went down.
