The new £10m (?) midfielder from Lens which Ipswich signed looked miles off the pace. Hirst does naff all, poor man's Delaps barging into people left right and centre. I think they desperately need Cajuste and another midfielder able to get a grip of possession. Davis also looked shocking. Brum I thought looked pretty competent z but a vulnerability there if you get at them I think....and they have a Russball GK for sure!

It's like paying £20m for Harwood Bellis, Jack Clarke, Jacob Greaves, Philogene - all championship players and great if you want to yo-yo, but £20m on players like that is probably just a demonstration of having zero scouting network beyond the sides you've come across.

Flip side is we might have MF and TD at that club for Ipswich though, just as we had JWP and Tella at the start of last championship season

Ipswich have lost Cajuste who was their best midfielder on loan. Obviously Philips but he was generally poor. Morsy who although old, made them tick, Burgess on a free, Delap for good money, look like losing Hutchinson. Can't have much spending power even with sales due to the spending rules after the last few windows. They have Jack Clarke and Philogene though who are dangerous wingers. Think they signed a midfielder from France, possibly WSs old team.

Surely Downes won't be fit. You'd hope Matty will be fit and hopefully we get thr Wrexham and Ipswich matches out of him at least.

Yep, really good player but him and Phillips are off. The latter is probably a relief. As I said, Morsy and Taylor, and very little spending power given recent splurges.

Their CM consists of Morsy (age 67) and Jack Taylor? Strikers are Hirst and Al Hammiry. Aside from a few flair players and a solid defence I am not sure they are in a great position

Not seen their accounts for the last season but I think they made a net loss the last 2 seasons, and seling Delap for v little profit isnt going to balance the books? Not sure what other sellable assets they have really - Davis, but he cant defend. Hutchinso to Leeds maybe, but he has proven he cant play in the prem this year. Would be interesting to see what their P&L looks like.

Any thoughts on Guilherme? Didn't appear to do a lot at the weekend, but WHU fans seem to rate him highly?

I'm not sure Rohl is the answer. What's he ever done beyond managing a mid table Championship team to mid table results. Rusk is doing okay but surely isn't the answer either. Russ isn't happening...we had great spirit but we're not fit and almost blew it. Rosenior you could say the same as Rohl... not really delivered anything major. But maybe more experienced and his progress in France means he has more about him than Rohl. Cooper is probably the most proven (maybe not best or guaranteed) option on paper I'd say, but I'd be happy to give Rohl a go and see how we start. Would hate Gerrard, Lampard seems to be doing okay. Carrick and Latte Lath could work.

No doubt the squad isnt good enough, but the manager isnt helping the team as far as I can see. His first couple of matches he made it simple, but now it feels like there is no spine to the team whatsoever, and we continue playing players out of position, without even mentioning the man to man thing. I would just love a simple, straightforward approach where we play our best players, in their best positions, work hard and take things simply.

He definitely looked more Radhi Jaidi than Michael Johnson. But 18months with no football was never going to help. He could do worse than play twice a week in the championship alongside Edwards or Wood against the Kieffer Moores and Joel Piroes of this world.

Ipswich spending another 5m on Palmer. Their net losses must be seriously racking up this season. I can't remember a material player sale they've made for a number of seasons.
