With some of our less intelligent fans penchant for squeezing words with too many syllables into chants expect to hear “Yer just a small town in Southampton….” ringing out from certain corners

Huddersfield 1-1 Saints - Match Thread
TheAlehouseBrawlers replied to Yorkshire Saint's topic in The Saints
Well, we won 3-1 the last time we went there and the couple of thousand Saints fans enjoyed an early Xmas present -
I'm certainly not sticking up for the counter-demo extremists but it was far easier to Police and make arrests in a relatively small concentrated group (that was more likely mostly intent on causing trouble). There's clearly extremists on the 'Peace March' too but in a crowd of 300,000 it would be easy to just quickly disappear amongst the genuine protesters if needed.

I'm writing a stiff letter the the BBC, the Scottish sports reporter on there has just clearly said Pak-i-stan lost to England at the cricket. 'Disgusted' of Safampton.

This one is up there with my best-evers, looked great inside the ground, even better on the box later

Someone’s trying hard to get his name mentioned on a rivals message board

Ted Bates was in charge when I started going and Lawrie Mac didn’t get off to a great start when he took over and relegation and the long barracking walk to the dugout soon followed. In the next 2-3 years he’d overseen our one major trophy success, got us to the the quarter finals of a European cup as a second division side and promotion soon followed. Unfortunately our board’s ambition never matched his which lead to him eventually naffing off for a few years (hurt at the time but understandable with hindsight) - but gets legend status for many of us. Cheers Lawrie!

They did give Sunderland additional seats last season and they're not selling tickets to home fans in that stand so we may see an increased allocation yet. Edit: If I’m reading that correctly then it looks like the original 2,300 have just about gone and a new block of around 300 have been put up for sale https://tickets.southamptonfc.com/selection/event/seat?perfId=10228596938717&choiceSelectionDone=true&productId=10228556762132

Probably an underground tunnel in case the natives didn’t take to him quite as well as our lot did 🥴

You would have thought so but only if they sack the newly appointed Joe Edwards...in record time. Some suggestions Jones interviewed well and was leading the chase but then demanded an escape clause which put the mockers on it.

I reckon it could have been 79, it was a lively day. There was a lot of Saints fans there, we had the big open terrace at one end but around kick-off a big mob of 'Warrens' announced their presence in the home end and played up until the OB ushered them out and down the side of the pitch up to the away terrace. There was trouble at half time too. After, we had just walked past the BBC in Wood Lane when we heard a 'commotion' somewhere, looking back down the road something was going on. I think there was a bit of hurt pride that day for the home boys. May tie in with what Saint Billy is saying.

We'll happily take 12+ then for the second half of the season. And with him becoming a focal point for defenders that could very well be to the advantage of others who could weigh in with a few more
-
Well yeah, strange behaviour really, but nice of him to do it for our benefit...
-
I'm liking that - tbf he's gutted but more than fair to us. That mush over his shoulder looks like a direct descendant of Ray Winstone, he must be well pissed off he turned out a Millwall fan!
-
Probably too much to expect to see Stewart on the bench tomorrow for a bit of game time late on after his 45mins and goal earlier. Hopefully Downes will thrive on the abuse he’ll take for his allegiances, midfield will be a battlefield, not for feint hearts this weekend. Hopeful.
-
For Palace we’ve done Southern trains to Croydon, usually works out cheaper than going to Waterloo, never done it for Millwall before but I guess could be another option Saturday. It will be dark by the time everyone’s out of the ground so probably best sticking to more familiar routes in the circumstances! If it’s replacement buses then a large chunk of the 3,000 Saints and thousands more home fans (looks like a full house) will be in hefty queues trying to get away. Best behaviour everyone.
-
I don't, his 'front-footed' aggressive approach will, initially at least, pump up the locals and give them a lift. It's heading for a full house so will be feisty and with over 3,000 Saints there that will just pump it up a little bit more. It's billed as a 'Remembrance Fixture' that always goes down particularly well around Bermondsey (as it does for a lot of us) and can see little benefit to us if NJ rolls up.

I like to have a scoot over opposition fans forums before/after we play them for their take on things, gives a bit of balance. What I have seen is many don’t rate and are pretty scathing of RM’s teams and tactics. Us included. Watching the Preston game it was also clear the commentators were underwhelmed with our approach. It was called slow, vulnerable (ponderous passing across the back) and looking like we were treating it as a match on the training ground. We desperately need to mix it up more.
-
Hope you’re right but there’s been a bit of a backlash up there amongst their fans over the abuse dished out to Rooney, it could have a galvanising effect. Away fans usually dominate the atmosphere at St Mary’s and being a lunchtime kick-off our lot will likely be more subdued, could give them an edge. No fuck it, we should be turning these over.
-
Bit of trepidation about this one. We do have an uncanny knack of presenting opposition teams and strikers on bad runs a springboard to switch their form around. Before last night Preston fans had been moaning about their boring football and shit home atmosphere, they no doubt couldn’t believe their luck last night when we let them get at us while we fannied around at the back. Apparently Brum fans were booing last night and plenty joined in with Hull supporters singing “sacked in the morning” to Rooney. They also played up at Boro at the weekend so expect some Moody-Blues around on Saturday if we do manage to turn them over.

Been faultless for me... https://gameshdlive.net/hd/ch8.php

That graphic is us attacking, Bazunu up front, two goalkeepers

The last time we went there we had around 2,000 - probably all they offered away fans at the time as they were in the PL. Must offer the entire end these days. Also back when we all loved Ralph.

...everyone knows it's Baff

Just short of 1,600 now - how many miles have our lot already clocked up on the road this season? There'll no doubt be a big tribute to Sir Bobby on Wednesday, ex-Preston player and manager, who'll certainly get an immaculate response from both sets of fans.
