Spurs would have been on the scene for a long time. It's not like Levy woke up on July 1st and decided he was going to buy TA. They will have been in contact for weeks and weeks, probably months. TA played us, it really is that simple
-
Is he concerned that already this summer we have 'lost' two players who both told him and RK that they wanted to sign for us (Clyne and TA) and are we naive in dealing with these sort of situations?
-
****ing hell. "We do not believe cost or the potential financial package on offer should be the only consideration here. THFC is a sustainably run club, seeking to compete with Chelsea – a club funded on a different model – and West Ham United, a club about to move into a stadium heavily subsidised by the taxpayer."
-
This. They have no ideas, no identity. Just bitterness at not being a top 4 team. They are too bland and dull to really dislike

Get Targett in for the first few games with Bertrand out injured

I'm not convinced Jay will go next summer. He's signed a new contract so we have all the control there. As long as we get BIG money when we sell (which we are doing) there is plenty of talent out there to replace them and the money we're raising from selling is exactly the thing that has enabled us to move ahead of Stoke, Swansea etc -
This team will definitely suit him more (include Mane as well) compared to playing with Lambert and Lallana. But he's probably our top earner now, so I don't see how we can justify keeping him on that money if he's not going to be a regular starter
-
Can't see us keeping Gaston as he's earning too much money to be a sub, but we've never really played to his strengths to be fair to him. He needs runners around him as he's always looking for a killer pass, but we've always played with a target man up front which just doesn't suit him
-
Was Jay playing as the central striker? I'm interested in how RK plans to use him this season
-
No we don't. You can't just buy players because one of them has an injury. We don't stop paying Forster just because he's injured. We have MS and Gazzaniga should be no.2 until FF returns

Back to the Spurs board for you I think
-
I don't have much of an issue with Spurs but Jesus their fans talk some crap. They laugh at the idea of some of our mong fans have that we're as big as Spurs (we know we're not) and will quite happily think they're as big as Liverpool. When people refer to Spurs as our rivals, we clearly don't mean rivals in the way spurs and arsenal are or us and pompey, but rivals in the sense that we're directly competing with you for a top 6 spot. You may not like that much as we're so much smaller than you and don't deserve to be there with the "big boys", but current football success isn't defined by whether or not you won the Worthington cup 20 years ago, it's about the here and now, and right now both clubs have a very similar level of team, as the table showed last year. The big advantage Spurs have over us is the ability to pay players more money. Players care about 3 things: money, immediate European prospects and the prospects for the immediate future (the next 2 or 3 years). Spurs beat us on money. Neither team have any realistic chance of champions league football any time soon, and both can offer Europa league. That's it. There is clear animosity towards Liverpool on here, but not from me to be honest. I just think they're lazy. They can't be bothered to scout around for decent players for sensible fees so instead just buy current decent PL performers for stupid money. By doing so they are providing us with funds to grow. As for last summer, we screwed United, arsenal and Liverpool for huge fees for our players, whereas spurs bid 10 million for the best central midfielder in the league. You make derisory bids like that and get expected to be taken seriously? **** off
-
Believe that if you want, but it's clearly boll0cks
-
But with replacements for all of them. Amazing that so many people haven't learnt from last season that EVERYONE in our squad is replaceable. We don't have world class players, we have very good players and there are plenty of very good players out there and they'll cost us much less than the fees we get in for the ones we sell
-
People can blame the board, but the bottom line is TA said he wanted to sign for us in public and has instead signed for Spurs. He could have delayed a few days to see if we could do a deal with AM (which we would have done) but instead he's signed for Spurs as quickly as he could. That speaks volumes
-
Vertonghen was woeful last season and I get the feeling it doesn't matter which 4 defenders you put in that spurs team, with that midfield you will expose them and leak goals and particularly with MP's style. Not dissimilar to Liverpool and BR actually
-
Only two people i trust on twitter relating to Saints: Jeremy Wilson and Adam Blackmore
-
Don't be so bloody naive. TA and Atletico will have known for weeks and probably months about Spurs' interest. If TA has preferred to sign for Spurs all along then there is very little we can do
-
The tricky part I think is what contractual agreement we had with Toby when we signed him on loan last summer i.e. did we have a contract in place that would automatically kick in if AM didn't pay the 1.5m fee by the agreed date? If so then we're in a very strong position. If not, we can't force TA to sign for us if he wants to join Spurs regardless of AM being in breach of contract surely?

Schneiderlin Joins Manchester United (Official)
Verbal Kint replied to Bewildered's topic in The Saints
He's only leaving if we get the right fee, but I'm at the point with him where I hope that happens. He clearly doesn't want to be here and his value will be significantly less next summer with only a year left on his contract -
Transfer update on Clyne, Schneiderlin and transfer priorities
Verbal Kint replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Because after a game last season he probably joked about him signing for Liverpool with a bit of a smirk on his face? So what? Some people need to get a grip, it's not like he's a representative of Liverpool meeting clyne and his agent at a secret location is it? -

Who really gives a sh!t? We've tapped up loads of players and I couldn't really care less if others do it to us. It's just how it works and if you think Carragher making a cheeky comment to clyne after a game has made him move then you're being naive
