  1. Please explain the Beattie comment
  2. Quite. But if we've really paid that much for a non-league player he must be something special. Is that a record fee for non-league?
  3. Will just return under a totally different name. Look out for 'Davros'
  4. 'reluctantnick' says because of wages, which he can't understand because we'd know what he is on, and would expect to pay that during a loan. But if the other rumour that this was with a mind to a permanent transfer is correct, then presumably we'd want to fix long term wages too, and probably at less than he's on now, at a premier league club , especially as he's getting on a bit.
  5. http://newsthump.com/2012/01/29/shock-as-moron-discovered-in-45000-capacity-football-stadium/ If you've never looked at newsthump, try this. Brilliant site all round IMO
  6. I think the idea is that the defence gives the prosecutors a preview, so that they can practise not laughing out loud when they hear it in court.
  7. Except Bunnahabhain (pronounced Boona harven), which although from Islay, does not have that peaty taste. Wonderfully smooth. Highly recommend if stuff at the other end of the spectum like Laphroaig is not for you. (All that peat isn't to my taste.) You can do a lot worse than some of the Irish whiskeys too if you like smooth. Try a 'pot still' one
  8. I don't think there is anything in law to forbid this. However, the likelihood of his being appointed will depend on who puts them into admin .. and in any event HMRC may well object to his appointment.
  9. I also thjink this is likely, after they go into administration. The adminstrator (if it is a real one this time) will sell on the cheap or even just release players, to reduce the wage bill. 'Buying' clubs will take them if they are a real bargain, but not be able to play them till next season. Lampitt and the directors (and surely it is their decison, not AA's since the club is not in admin) ought to be holding a fire sale now. But in typical cheats FC fashion they seem to hanging on grimly in some sort of brinkmanship bluff, hoping someone will rescue them rather than "allow such a great club to go bust". Or maybe they reckon admin is inevitable even if they do sell a couple of players so are just getting as many games out of the squad as possible before the points deduction, and the dismantling of the squad, in the hope they can scrape together enough to avoid relegation. They don't care if their debt racks up a bit higher in the meantime ..they don't worry about moral obligations. In fact the more I think about it, the more that seems to be their tactic. And if the deduction is only 10 points, they may even succeed.
  10. Don't tell anyone else but if you're coming in from the A34/M3 as your location implies, it's actually usually quieter, and therefore quicker, to stay on the motorway to Stoneham, first exit on M27, and come in via Thomas Lewis Way. And I blame the Tories too!
  11. And Fonte also looks uncomfortable on the left. It is an issue. But maybe Martin's continuous and continuing improvement includes learning to play on the left too.
  12. To add another Tony Caldwell signed from Horwich RMI to Bolton, admittedly when they were in the old 3rd division (ie L1). Can't remeber his age ,but he was certainly not a youngster.. mid 20's? He went on to be their leading scorer for several seasons I believe, and definitely scored 5 in one league match -- but then weirdly faded away again back to part-time football.
  13. Dalek, Dune and Trousers?
  14. Sounds as if the crowd are shouting Leeeeee like for Steve . That'll confuse him
  15. They'll be back. Look at the spurs fans comments. They haven't seen through him yet, and the media will still want him ...he virtually writes their headlines for them. It tends to be the clubs he's left that don't rate him, when they do the sums after he's gone. I predict Spurs will have a financial crisis once Redknapp leaves.
  16. Those aren't real losses. They are credits to write against future profits. Keep up!
  17. Absolutely. The fact that he seems to think that he only missed paying £30k on such a big amount gives us some idea of how little tax he pays on everything else he earns. If I can't have his (or the RBS bank bloke's) job can I at least employ his accountant please?
  18. The trouble is that many (most?) clubs are paying more in wages than they can afford and the whole market is ridiculously inflated. So if a club sticks to what it can afford, it will almost automatically be at a disadvantage. As long as the Portsmouth living-above-their-means-then-reneging-on-debt scenario can happen, or as long as another rich (probably foreign) bloke with more money than sense, can come along and pay way over the odds, (eg chelsea), sensible clubs will always be fighting with one hand behind their backs. The only answer is to give some real teeth to the financial proposals and really force clubs to live within their means. As it is , I look forwards to Spurs going broke when Redknapp leaves and someone adds up the sums, and Chelsea going broke when Abramovitch wants his money back, but there'll always be another one to replace them.
  19. Which last Friday?
  20. "expert" and "talksport" ...interesting juxtaposition! Havinmg said that I am curious about who woud be the administrator. It presumably depends in who actually decides to put them into administration. The club can do so itself can't it, voluntarily? They can't want AA again surely to god? Whereas if it is Portpin, ie BC who puts them into admi , he obviously will want AA ...though HMRC may object.
  21. loan not sale I hope?
  22. I understand Cala is about to enter into a Sindy-cate with Corp Ho.
  23. If that is correct, the only logical explanation is that we have other irons in the fire ...maybe an ex-'Iron' in fact? ... and are waiting to decide which is the better deal. Brinkmanship ..may work well or may backfire if other clubs wade in at the last minute and nick players from under our noses.
  24. I hope the source declared the money on his tax return!
  25. It would make some sort of sense if the manager also had to pay a percentage of the loss when he buys a £15 million player and turns him into a £1million one! I'm definitely in the wrong business.
