Either Stewart Downing ('Boro) or Steven Davis (Villa) in the 04/05 Season. Downing denying us a win in injury time in Twitchy's first game in charge cemented the trouble we were in. The Villa defeat made me realise, that for the first time in my life, yeah.... We are as good as down. Marcus Bent above also felt similar, but those are the two that stick.

I would rather judge on the performances themselves rather then results. I want to see if he can be flexible in his thinking, if he can improve any of the players at his disposal and get us more cohesive. Sure, the logic will be that if he succeeds the results should follow, but, considering how deficient we have been... I just want to see us putting up a fight.

I'm at the acceptance/apathy stage. I still watch games, but with zero expectations of anything good happening...... If it does, I know it won't actually mean anything. We will lose. See: Most games where we have led at half time for the last 5 years.

I fear the powers that be saw Stephens and Bednarek as fitting that description.

We've always been utterly naive with how we approach these situations, just like us playing the kids during covid leaving us extremely vulnerable when our rivals just pleaded sickness and got postponements. The only time we tried anything remotely like this was the holding company nonsense Lowe tried before administration. We didn't get away with it....

Think i've shared this story before, but i'll share again. In my previous career I visited an NHS Hospital where they needed ideas to protect batteries from burning out due to wheelchair users incontinence. Their urine would short the terminals. I recommended a very simple fix, a waterproof aerosol spray that would cost pennies per wheelchair. I projected it would save them at least £12,000 per year. They declined the fix, on the basis that they would lose the saved money from their departmental budget for the next year. Just pathetic.

Last time they tried that we basically incinerated over £100m. So, damned if you do......
