Monarchies are better value for money than Republics
Colinjb replied to trousers's topic in The Lounge
Ok, the Queen owns it, what power does she have to claim it and push people out? -
Yes, giving away free tickets to a stadium that is only 70% or so of capacity is 'spending' £30k.

What does it matter? Any state can seize land it requires in a time of emergency. -
Of course not. But labelling someone as a paedophile without explicit evidence is equally ridiculous. The tragedy here is that there will be victims here (the abused/savilles family) either way... and this shall never be proven as he is dead.
-
Yes, a gross assumption. And why these things need to be approached calmly. The amount of 'smoke' here certainly merits investigation though.
-
No, and in cases where false accusations that could further damage lives are made there should be punishment. Did any punishment find it's way to Dave Jone's accuser? But where there are accusations they must be investigated, if there is a risk of any innocent victims being left to suffer it must be removed. No-one should be left to suffer from abuse, they deserve justice. The minority that seek to abuse the system should not be allowed to corrupt it... they should suffer for their crime as well.

And like Dave Jones, if they have nothing to hide then the truth will out. But yes it can leave people vulnerable to allegations, lives can be ruined one way or another. If there are allegations though they must be investigated... Which is why the timing of the Saville allegations are suspicious. But my goodness, there is a lot coming out of the woodwork.

It is the basis of our justice system. Perfect or not it's what we have, don't get me wrong I do not believe in smoke without fire.... and there is an awful lot of smoke here, but this will only ever be hear'say. So many people would stand to lose so much if the full details are true... they would never admit it all.

Innocent until proven guilty.

First broadcast in May 1999. As I understand it the 'fake' transcript first came to light in 2000.

Not what I am saying at all. I am saying that this guy (if the rumours are true...) will have needed to have a vast amount of influence and thrall over a lot of people. It's why the question in itself over the timing is a concern for me. As he is dead there would be less damage done now in coming forward, yet if people let it fly then they would surely not want to be associated. Anyone who could have interfered then but didn't due to fear of damage to employment, reputation, well-being will not come out of this smelling of roses. There would only be one true guilty party, but to sit back and let it happen would also be terrible. So, either there really has been the mother of all cover-ups or this is a really cheap way to get a story.

There's a David Icke forum!?

That was Holly Willoughby.

The question of 'why now, when he can't defend himself,' keeps occuring to me. The thing is, he wouldn't have been the only guilty party, anyone who would have known about this and not have come forward with the information would have been indirectly responsible for any abuse occuring from that point onwards. This puts every colleague, chauffuer, aide and senior BBC employee who would have been privy to any relevant information into an extremely dim light. A combination of their own guilt/culpability and the ongoing thrall this man may have had over them could have been enough to keep things quiet..... Not that this is in any way right. My personal feeling; if there is a cloud of smoke, you bet there's fire.

This is symptomatic though, and proof that the trust simply wouldn't work. They have a single minded agenda, for a large group of people to come together to fulfill one grander aim there needs to be an allowance for shades of gray between the finer lines of detail. Those leading the trust are utterly intolerant of contrary viewpoints and options, politics and infighting would surely occur. As a democratic entity the trust couldn't be ruled as a dictatorship, it would tear itself appart. Like all things Pompey, nieve, poorly thought through and utterly unsustainable. It may well be kind ensuring that it never gets of the ground, let dreams remain alive and unfulfilled rather then destroyed.

Would you Adam and Eve it!

He just did! haha.

It seemed as though they were about to be found out and exposed.... so they made a poorly planned break for it.

When we started this season, what exactly were you expecting?
Colinjb replied to Legod Third Coming's topic in The Saints
I expected a long hard struggle and hoped to be in touch with the pack after the first five fixtures where out of the way. Even mid-table teams in this league only win 1 in 3, we better get used to the fact that every win at this level is an event to celebrate, not a divine expectation. -
Just seen that this is on the schedule, a very entertaining game if memory serves me well. Just thought it would be good to bring to wider attention.

Getting my impression from watching Football First. For the first part of the game, until Everton's goal went in we were on top, we looked excellent. Whether it was Everton underestimating us at the back or our excellent forward play... (or more likely a hybrid of the two) we looked great value for our lead; Jay Rodriguez will be kicking himself tonight for that miss to put us two up i'm sure. Then a moment where we failed to clear our lines led to the equaliser. This was the turning point of the game. All of a sudden the belief in our game plan ebbed away... Everton came at us. Gazzaniga will be dropped for our next game I feel, his lack of presence for the final two Everton goals was dissappointing. The lack of bite in our midfield was even more shocking though, we couldn't get a grip on the Toffees. When at full flow Everton were better then us..... but they had to raise their game to see us off. The mental fragility in the team is a worry for me currently. Our key factor last year was momentum, our initial fixture run has seen it so that we couldn't develop an early head of steam. Our style of play at this stage could be a mixed blessing, it will ensure we will score goals but will equally leave us exposed. Without truly world class defenders and defensive midfielders that could be our downfall.... and whenever we conceed we look liable to do so again, it's almost as if the team expects to be under the cosh. I expected us to struggle this season yet I have been encouraged by our first 6 games. The next two months will dictate our fate. I personally still feel we can survive yet the manner in which we would achieve it will leave us utterly breatheless. It's quite gung ho.

A hint of Coventry (it does have it's own accent) mixed in with the Hampshire, Kent and North Yorkshire I had influencing me growing up. Throw in a hint of Maltese, Northumblerlandshire and Mockney and you have quite a cocktail.
