  1. This is why I achieved a 2:1 Honours in Engineering, and you are doing English. The lesson endeth.
  2. Having been a student at a university that is only strong in a few areas and weak in several I can tell you for a fact that there are a large proportion of students who do go simply because they have no real idea of what they wish to do next, so they meander through on a course that sounds reasonable getting drunk, doing the minimum of work and leaving with a 3rd class degree or 2:2 that means essentially nothing. Your 99% view is almost certainly true of the subjects which do have a need for a degree, such as nursing, medicine, engineering, law, mathematics and the sciences. But degrees in 'media,' 'performaing arts,' and 'travel and tourism' have no real weight or relevance beyond their more recognised universities. Yet many people take them and wonder why their 3rd Class Degree in Dance from Aston University cannot get them any work beyond burger flipping and light admin. I wish you luck at uni, and trust from your comments that you will work hard and fullfill your goals. I appreciate Stu is heavy handed and somewhat clumsy in his views but he does have a valid point beneath it all, the university system is far too big, far too swelled and achieves less then a well applied apprenticeship and vocational system would deliver in 70 odd percent of cases. I am sure the experiences you gain will help you to be less nieve.
  3. Thanks. That just made me vomit a little.
  4. Good shout. At least the housing/beer is cheap round here!
  5. I do agree with you there. It's an insult that certain scientific degrees share the same 'qualification' (BSC) as many of the pointless ones. These needless degrees are undermining the worthwhile qualifications that exist. I mean, please, tell me, why the f**k would you want to go to Coventry University (where I took my Engineering degree) and study 'Dance!?'
  6. As implied. I hope he does well for Southend, it's a shame he had to go as part of the Lee Barnard deal but it seems to be best for both parties, he will play more there and develop quicker then he would have done here. He always seemed to give his all for us and should have an extremely promising career ahead of him, I will never forget his goal against Millwall in the first game of the Leibherr era. All the best chap.
  7. Delighted with that, just a shame Pato had to go the other way, but we now have 3 proven strikers at this level waiting to play. Love it.
  8. The QPR fan talks sense. Even on the 'how the f**k are Southampton' still in business part.
  9. What would be your definition of a worthwhile degree Stu?
  10. My team: ----------------- Davis ---------------- Thomas --- Jaidi -------- Perry ---- Mills Waigo ---- Wotton ---- James --- Holmes ---------- Barnard ---- Lambert ---------
  11. No need to patronise me, I was trying to offer some reasoning behind my statement and as such it is in no way groundless. Wigan may not pay the biggest dollar but they have attracted some good players into there over the past few years, and they will have done that by doing what the Skates have done, spending comparitively large amounts on wages. Scotland has a close relationship with his manager and is playing regularly for a mid table premiership side. Considering his clubs stature and league position it would take a many million pound offer to get them to allow us to discuss terms, even though we have money we are not going to be stupid with it and paying upwards of 3 million pounds for a player while we are in the third tier is entirely unrealistic. I firmly believe he will not sign for us as a result. If I am wrong, I will be wrong but there is no need to respond with that level of sarcasm.
  12. Duplicate post. Ignore.
  13. Connolly was released through injury and despite the success of the signing it was a gamble at the time. Healy isn't getting a game at Sunderland and would be rejoining a former club who will only be one league down from his former level within 5 months. Fonte was sold by a club desperate for cash who are only one league above us and seemingly going nowhere. Scotland is playing regularly for Wigan in the Premiership, has only just joined them and is working hard to succeed there on no doubt very high wages. He is also working for a manager who has mentored him up from the level we are currently at. We wouldn't be able to offer him more money or more prestige. It wouldn't make sense for him to drop down.

    MKD support

Relax, they are only part of the initial tender. They still may not get to host. At least I hope that sham of a 'club' doesn't.

    Jackson AND Barnard? Really?
  16. He wouldn't.

    Simeon Jackson

    Sorry, never heard of him.
  18. Would love this signing, especially if we beat Leeds to the punch with it!
  19. That just wasn't sporting!
  20. I'm going with the new missus' Brother in Law. should be laugh. 18 quid a ticket is a rather good price I feel.
  21. Who is our academy manager now? We could offer the best of those lads a decent solution.
  22. Their foundations were flawed, ours are not.
  23. A trophy of any sort is vital in giving this club it's self respect back. I personally would make the JPT our priority with a top half league finish the minimum requirement, with top 10 the aim. Not only would it be a great day out but it would be an awesome platform to build on, any Wembley appearance would be.
  24. Hate to say it, but the Skate's right.
  25. He's just been told that he is starting tonight...... ...... In goal.
