He also set the bench mark for Beckham in scoring from the halfway line V Watford in The League Cup as we romped home to a 5-0 victory, (shame there doesn't appear to be any footage available). ...... for the sake of my sanity all recollections of the 2nd leg at Vicarage Road have been erased from my memory banks!!!

To be honest considering the state the club was in at this stage last season and where we are now and hopefully heading, 'easily out selling' last years STs by a few hundred isn't a great deal in my mind. A great amount of Feel Good Factor evaporated at the way the whole ST thing has been handled. As several people have mentioned, if even just 1 fan who stumped up for a ST last season at a time when we were at an all time low in terms of league position and no realistic chance of promotion, has been unable to renew this season because of the withdrawal of installments or half season options then that is bad news. Spare a thought for families with kids outside the magic 8 yr old mark suddenly being faced with a huge unexpected additional outlay at an already expensive time of year. How many people have been coerced into reluctantly paying up front for an ST to avoid the booking fee scenario week in week out? Commercially good news for the club either way, extra income up front or extra easy money for the rest of the season in booking fees. But maybe not what the seemingly ripped up and conveniently forgotten Fans Charter set out to acheive. At the end of the day i feel that anything below 15000 STs ie only picking up an extra 1500 or so extra sold shows that the club have got it wrong, and should not be used as an excuse for some willy waving celebration of out doing last year.

Nick Holmes has only been surpassed by MLT, Mick Channon and Terry Paine in the number of appearances made for Southampton FC. He was a member of the 1976 FA Cup winning team, played in every single league game in the 83/84 season when we finished 2nd and all 8 Cup games that season which included an FA Cup run which saw us lose out to Everton in the semi finals and is an all round top bloke and perfect unassuming gentleman to boot. So yes, news regarding one of our greatest ever servants is of interest to some of us. If it isn't to you, that's your loss.

Why wold you want to buy a railway station ... this isn't Monopoly you know We shall see.
-
But don't forget these numbers have been swelled by the players having to buy season tickets so that they are assured of getting into the ground on matchday and stand a chance of being picked for the starting XI Pulis's application is still in the pending tray.

That's the boy ...... and thank god for my sanity .... there it is on Wiki, ironing board injury, although it happened before he arrived in Southampton :- Stensgaard got his national breakthrough with Hvidovre IF, and was touted the successor of former Hvidovre and Danish international goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.[1] He made his Denmark national under-21 football team debut in October 1993.[2] In May 1994, he was bought by English team Liverpool FC for a transfer fee of £400,000.[3] He arrived at Liverpool to succeed Bruce Grobbelaar as understudy to David James, and was issued the number 13 shirt during his time at the club.[4] He became known for a bizarre injury which ended his chances of breaking into the Liverpool first team, as he dislocated his shoulder when setting up an ironing board soon after joining the club.[5] The injury evolved into a recurring shoulder ailment requiring surgery,[6] and he never played a first team game for the club. His lack of success in Liverpool later earned him a selection in the Liverpool Echo's Merseyside Lost 11, a selection of players which the newspaper considered the biggest fiascos in the history of Liverpool and local rivals Everton.[7]

Didn't we sign a Danish (?) goalkeeper from Liverpool (?) who got crocked trying to put up an ironing board or something rather bizarre like that .... or have too many Old Speckled Hens and too much sun started to take it's toll on me

The biggest regret was Ronnie Ekelund. The understanding he and MLT developed in a short period of time promised great things but was not to be. At least we got value for money from Pahars before he become a permanent crock, which is more than can be said of Tin man I think both Charlie George and Perry Groves had T shirts printed in their honour ... "I've seen CG/PG play for Saints" ... not many were sold as it was a pretty exclusive membership !!! Other less illustrious crocks were Mark Draper, Darren Powell, John Beresford, David Hirst, Jelle Van Damme and Barry Venison, but that little lot along with Tim Man cost us a fair wedge of money in transfer fees with very little in the way of returns.

To be honest at the same build up stage in the previous seasons we have struggled against the likes of Eastleigh and Farnborough. It isn't a result orientated period of the build up, more getting rid of cobwebs and experimenting different formations etc. And to do it against established teams rather than non league pub teams is more testing than being runaway at a stroll winners over lower standard teams proves zilch. But just in case ... NC out.... AP out .
