So how many of you are really washing your hands of saints?
Dan Johnson replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
I Love football absolutely love it I’ve played Hampshire league\Southampton League football every season for the last 16 years, I managed a team for the last 3 seasons. I’ve won a few leagues, got to a few cup finals & my last game as a player/manager came in May at a Hampshire cup final. I’ve subsequently “retired” to spend time with my young family. I wouldn’t call myself an armchair fan as I’d like to think, although at an amateur level I’ve still been involved in association football for 16 years at a reasonable level & I understand what it’s like dealing with 16-20 individuals & their personalities. I’d like to think I have a better tactical understanding than those that haven’t played the game at a competitive level. I’d also hope I have an eye for a player, especially understanding how important partnerships are & how important an “unfashionable” player can be when it comes to the balance of a side. I was really looking forward to enjoying the new premier league season, I’ve not really had the opportunity to listen to games on the radio or attend Saturday afternoon games or watch soccer Saturday on a Saturday afternoon as I’ve always been out playing or managing. However I have never ever been as disillusioned with football as I am now. This is supposed to be the best league in the world, yet it’s a league where financial fair play does more to create a monopoly for the top clubs than it does to actually create a level playing field. A league where football clubs have become rich commodities for the super rich, it’s just business to them, nothing more than business. The purity of the game that I’ve been so in love with at grassroots level over the last 16 years is simply non-existent at the top level. Why hire a good coach when he’ll be poached by a wealthier club, why invest in youth when the best players move to the bigger clubs? That’s not sportsmanship, that’s not ethical in a sporting sense. Why invest any time in improving your club as a sporting entity when the commercially rich clubs will just swop and purchase all your hard work or worse still the owners will sell to satisfy business needs. I honestly think I’ll stick with grass roots, watch some amateur games & lower league football. Its more honest, its pure, its not corrupt, its not business… its just sport and that’s what I like… sport -
Think I was about 14-15 when Egil was playing. Remember nearly crying one summer when I read Newcastle were interested in signing him.

They signed Rickie Lambert before they sold Suarez... he must be his replacement
-
Unless Chambers has asked to leave of course £16 million is allot for a player who hasn't played much first team football at all & is still 2nd choice. I think the board probably have blinked at the fee because realistically he's probably only worth at most 7-8 million & while he has shown great potential, it's still only potential & he may never progress. Each transfer should be judged in isolation which is hard to do when the overall picture is looking pretty grim at the moment (though I think it will improve) If Chambers was the only player to leave this summer at £16million we'd be saying what good business it was.
-
£130k a week, crazy money. If Chelsea cant afford to pay it then we don't have a chance. Rickie must be upwards of 70k at Liverpool and we know Lallana is on 100k, Lovern will be on the same. People can blame the board all they want, but we SIMPLY CAN NOT afford to pay this kind of money & players heads will be turned
-
From 3:45 "We know the players, we will have new player in that position, because we need 2 good ones, with marcos, with target we have one & we're looking for the other one" Pretty sure "we know the players" "We will have new players" "with Marcos" all but confirms Rojo :-)
-
I really can't see Lallana doing well for Liverpool, I think both he & Lambert will be fringe players. I think Lovern will establish himself though
-
Which is why I think (if he is sold) we accepted the fee, it's also a risk on our part to turn down that kind of money for a position we aren't struggling with. Cork can play right back too if required & again we don't know if he'll fulfil that potential. We don't know whats going on behind the scenes, whether we need money to facilitate incoming transfers. We can only really judge when the window closes, I like chambers though & will be sorry to see him leave.
-
All my non supporting Mates are laughing more at the prices paid than the amount of players sold
-
He's krocked ;-) we got out at the right time!
-
We can only really assess at the end of the transfer window, players may have to leave to facilitate the fees of those coming in. The order things are done are not important its the end result, I'll hold the board accountable if at the end of August we haven't replaced any or all of the players. Until then you just got to go with the flow.
-
£16 Million is a ridiculous fee for a Second Choice right back. I will be disappointed if he leaves, thought he'd progress to be a decent Center Back.

From what I have seen of Pelle he looks a marked improvement on Lambert. Very Similar in style but more effective, great support play but has the pace to join the attacks, very Mobile. I Like him, Targett looks good too. Isgroves working hard and took his goal well. Centre backs worry me a little, but I think its Inevitable we'll strengthen there. I'd bring in 2 CBs, another striker, a winger, a left back & a goalkeeper

The money is Southampton Football clubs, the Liebherrs own the club but it's a completely separate legal entity. Directors can of course take dividends payments but they have a legal obligation to ensure the business is run correctly, clubs don't pay transfer fees directly into the owners bank account
-
Pretty shocking that from Saints, we should be keeping Corks dad informed.
-
Didn't Guan say that he was concerned that the player we were targeting to replace Lovern was a little ambitious, could match up if its Rojo
-
Quailty football post on a Football forum shocker! Thanks mate

It's like the 2014 version of has Skacel Signed Yet... Has Lovern Gone Yet??
-
To be fair I thought that last year and made the mistake of putting ricky van wolfswinkel in my dream team. It's impossible to tell really until a ball is kicked who has done the best business. I thought Spurs signed genuine quality last summer yet it turns out they were all ineffective

1) Chelsea 2) Man City 3) Arsenal 4) Man Utd 5) Everton 6) Tottenham 7) Liverpool Newcastle 9) Southampton 10) West Ham 11) Hull 12) Stoke 13) QPR 14) Sunderland 15) Swansea 16) Aston Villa 17) Palace 18) Leciester 19) Burnley 20) West Brom

Where do they play? The kids go to braishfield school, assuming they use the green behind that?

Are Tadic and Pelle upgrades on Lallana and Lambert?
Dan Johnson replied to simo's topic in The Saints
Both Lallana & Lambert had at least 4 years of productive service each, both contributed massively to where we are now. We've had those 4 years to get to know their strengths and their weaknesses. Without a similar time frame it's impossible to judge, even after next season we won't know. If we stay in the premier league and pelle scores only 3 then everyone will say no, however if in the two seasons after that he contributes 20+ goals a season then it'll be a yes. I'm certain they'll both be better technically, they've both played at higher levels on a more consistent basis comparatively.
