I don't think protests work/I'm not interested in them.
Saint-Fred replied to Guan 2.0's topic in The Saints
I am a little apathetic about the manager really...obviously under the current ownership we aren't going to see any major investment. As such we are just one of the also rans and with this owner/leadership team, we are destined (like the Swansea's) to go down and if we stay up this year, we'll go down in the next year or two anyway. If you were protesting against Gao I would be in. -
Why do you think that? The press suggested double VD was on 65k a week. Are you seriously thinking he was double that?
-
I don't believe for one minute he has taken a pay cut. Everton are awash with money now and can afford his wages. He would have just let his contract run down at Arsenal rather than take a pay cut. He could have gone on loan for the rest of the season if it's just about the World Cup.
-
Google translate say it is "welcome home Theo"
-
Not sure meeting 6 or 7 " fans" raises our profile much?
-
Didn't it also mention that we didn't match the wages? If we offer less then he wasn't ever coming.. Only If we offer the same as Everton he wasnt coming due to the position. However I don't believe we were ever seriously making an effort to sign him. It just does not match the way we operate. As usual we will have what we value people at, we will offer that, if they get a better offer they go elsewhere..if they get to the end of the window without a Better offer, they will consider ours. It's the way it's been for the last couple of years... Not saying it's good or bad..it's just how we operate.

100% this...it was never a real option..at best his agent strung us along to get the best deal from Everton...at worst it was just media spin the club allowed to happen as it suited. This deal was so far out of our normal parameters that it was never Realistic.
-
Where they pay the most...therefore Everton Our results will be interesting as we were level on turnover in 15/16 so if they have jumped "mainly due to the new larger sky deal" then you can assume our turnover increased too...
-
You are comparing two different seasons..ours is 15/16 theirs is 16/17
-
Not sure that is in their yet? The £150m the new owner pumped in probably helped though!
-
TBF they have done really well to increase turnover by £50m in a single season. We WERE about level with them and it seems, somehow, they suddenly jumped £50m in revenue more than they had ever done before....Ralph needs to get up there and learn how to do "commercial" properly!
-
These are great numbers..can you link me to a report which shows this is the case please? I would be interested in that.
-
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jun/01/premier-league-finances-club-by-club The latest I could find was this which suggest we had a greater turnover in that year?
-
Can you link me to this as I am not sure this is correct but happy to be corrected.
-
revenue wise they are not much bigger than us currently (ignore the bigger club or not debate)..the difference is their owner wants to pump money into the club and ours doesn't. Sometimes it's just down to shear luck who decides to buy your club!
-
I would agree that its not right to blame the club he didn't sign..they could have dismissed the rumours though and not raised expectations. It was never going to happen and if Reed ever believed it would happen then, like the Tuchel incident ( if you believe we were after him) or you believe the Toby A. incident (where its alleged Reed believed he was coming here and then went to Spurs) then he is deluded and in the wrong job.

Lol we were going backwards not progressing..at this point in the season we only need three goals at home to match last years home tally. And the goals we did score were towards the start of last season. MP may be ****e but we will still score more goals at home than we did last season.
-
I disagree, we were never really in the hunt for him.. Asking anyone to take a significant pay cut to come to the club isn't going to happen. The rest is irrelevant.
-
Lol you won't be missing much.. I think it's 31 goals we have scored in 31 home games in the last two seasons! At least MP only needs 3 goals this season( in 7 games) to match last years total goals at home...so in theory we are more attacking! Ironically I think last two seasons have sucked the fight out of a lot of supporters and everyone has seen this coming. The atmosphere is poor as a result but not singing also means they don't bother singing anti songs either.
-
Are you confusing a few moaning on the Internet for ALL Southampton supporters? I have seen nothing in the stadiums this season which is much more than a few moans and maybe the occasional booing? There won't be any protest and even if there is, it won't be like the Branfoot era.. stop over reacting!
-
If we are four down, most will walk out anyway...can we still call it a protest?
-
I am hoping most turn up looking like Pennywise...got my camera ready... The media reporting all these random clowns across the city on a matchday would be quite funny!
-
who has abused him on this thread? He put it into the social media world so no doubt he is expecting some reaction or comments. My pennies worth is it seems to fit with the clubs thinking, and IMO it's unlikely we will see a managerial change. Therefore we can protest (and probably just add to the problems we have) or we can just support the team as he suggests. ( and pretty much what I have seen at games) I can't see protesting before or during games will achieve anything except make any manager thinking of coming here, think twice.
-
Why not go dressed as clowns to the Spurs game? That would not only look great, bring great media coverage but also get a real message that you think he is a clown...
-
Wasn't Bertrand directly behind him..I don't think he would have seen the handball?
