In "Saints a complete record" for the 1950-51 season it refers to an FA Cup game at Roker Park "Saints wore amber jerseys and black shorts for the first time. They borrowed the kit from the Hampshire Regiment." But in the programme for the 1963 FA Cup semi-final it refers to Southampton wearing old gold shirts. So I guess amber and old gold were regarded as interchangeable terms.

To be very pedantic. It was old gold and black rather than amber. You can see an example here 1970-1972 I guess one reason for not reviving it is that the shorts would be the same colour as the home kit. So it would work perfectly if we went back to blue shorts.

I was also thinking that he might go back to Scotland. However, he has got himself to the verge of playing at the very top level and has actually scored in the PL. Going to Hearts at his age would end that dream.

I say no. Because we would almost certainly get something horrible. However it does feel that there is a certain inevitability about a change because marketing people love rebranding, not least for the outrageous fees they get.

I get to speak to a lot of fans of other clubs through work. Not one of them believes the punishment was fair. One thing I was wondering about Tonda was if his incredible run would extend to another season? We have seen it before. Dowie took Palace from the edge of relegation to winning the playoffs, and was then garbage afterwards. I thought perhaps Tonda might have continued to be good, but now we will never know.

Leaving aside the downside with Tonda, we played some very exciting, attacking football under him. The likes of Dyche would be a step backwards.
