  1. Do we automatically have to postpone both the Easter games now? Or could we say play the FA cup game on the Friday and still play Wrexham on the Monday - or play Ipswich on the Friday and the FA cup game on the Monday?
  2. We have never played Leeds in the FA cup in our history, so have a feeling it will be them (yes I know probability doesn't work like that)
  3. Given West Ham's obsession with our players I anticipate a bid from them in the Summer
  4. Yes that was the season Cockerill was assaulted. The added time enabled Arsenal to equalise and without that point they would not have won the title. We still won a few games after that. The bad run started at the end of November when we knocked Spurs out of the league cup
  5. That's what one Kevin Davies gets you
  6. VAR should have been suspended the moment in 2019 when Mike Read didn't send Anthony Taylor to the monitor to check a foul because "he's a mate".
  7. In 2018 we could see that VAR had a clear purpose - to stop Doucoure getting away with punching the ball into the net. And it would be great if it was those massive errors it was used to avoid. But now its mission has crept to the point where it is both micro-refereeing the game while still getting big decisions wrong
  8. I think Puel did a good job with the resources he had. It might have been that Koeman, had he stayed, would have done no better after losing Pelle and Mane - but maybe he would have had the status to bring in replacements of equal quality. Ralph was generally good up until he beat Liverpool and seemed to have a breakdown. In my opinion he should have been sacked at the end of the 2021/22 season when he had clearly lost it.
  9. Saints made a massive mistake in sacking Chris Nicholl, a manager who never fought a serious relegation battle and achieved solid mid table finishes of 14th, 12th, 12th, 13th, 7th, 14th and two semi-finals. How we would love some of that failure now. What was even worse was that proper consideration was not given to who would replace him.
  10. we could have bought Moore and McBurnie for this season, both proven operators at this level, and had plenty of change from the cost of Downs
  11. Totally agree. But he wasn't that good before he was loaned to Ipswich. He came back a transformed virtually goal a game player. Aside from his association there was a prejudice that at £90,000 he just wasn't expensive enough.
  12. I have been trying of any time before when we have done the double over two teams from the same city - excluding London of course.
  13. My tickets arrived ok. But it is not uncommon for them not to make it, such as for Sheffield United. Or for Oxford where Sints neglected to frank the envelope. I usually find the home club are very helpful in giving you duplicates if you can show them your booking details with seat numbers
  14. Losing at home to Notts County, who went on to be relegated, was a major factor in us not winning the league in 83/84. Rochdale did the double over us in League One. In the Championship we lost to Doncaster...
  15. I think they are about 7 to 1 to win. Its well worth a safety bet as losing this game is exactly what we have done throughout our history
  16. I have the VHS tape "Race for the championship" covering the 83/84 season. Narrated by Brian Moore it details the battle for the league title between Liverpool and Manchester United, apparently oblivious to the fact that United finished fourth in a two-horse race. Talking about this game he refers patronisingly to "two of the most unexpected goals of the season". Right at the end he adds a by-the-way, "Southampton finished second".
  17. While Fellows was disappointing he did supply a really good cross to Scienza for the shot blocked on the line early in the game. What happened with the Downes scuffle where he got a yellow card? I didn't really have a clear view.
  18. I would have loved us to sign Antonio, but was he willing to join Saints though? At the time - 2010 - he was a Reading player in a higher division, possibly on higher wages than we might have paid in League One. When we were signing Ramirez in 2012, Antonio had just signed for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship. His career didn't seem to be going anywhere there or at Forest later and he didn't get to the Premier League until he signed with West Ham until 2015.
  19. If we get through we are set for a major fixture pile-up as the 6th round is at the Easter weekend. So Wrexham away and Ipswich home will need to be rearranged along with the Norwich game. Its almost as if it was assumed that Championship teams wouldn't make it that far.
  20. This is the one I used

  22. I am normally XL and went for XXL and its quite big. So not sure you do need to go up in size
  23. We used to get Manchester United regularly in the FA Cup, we have had a bit of a break in recent years. But with this being the 50th anniversary I can see it happening. On the other hand, we have never played Leeds in the FA cup so that has to happen eventually.
  24. It doesn't look like there was a blade of grass on the pitch. Love the picket fences around the sides. I went to the replay. We made hard work of that as well
