  1. Its a good point that the Wembley final does kind of reward a team that didn't achieve automatic promotion. It would be better to go back to a two-leg home and away final, which was what they had up until about 1990.
  2. It strange that we haven't managed to develop a keeper. Maybe we have just focused on producing top quality full backs?
  3. We also need to reduce the number of teams in the Championship. 24 is far too many. We should have 20 teams in PL, 20 in Championship, 22 in League One, 22 in League Two and create a League Three of 22 teams bringing in the top teams from the National League. With play-offs scrapped completely. It is often forgotten that play-offs were only introduced in 1986/87 as a temporary measure to reduce the old First Division down to 20 clubs. Although in no time it was back up to 22. It was then decided that the play offs were so popular, although no supporters were asked, that they should be permanent.
  4. The annoying thing about the MOTD compilation is that it doesn't include every time we were on. Since we were on rarely, it wouldn't have stretched them that much. There was a game at Stoke in November 1981 when David Armstrong scored an absolute screamer - would love to see that again.
  5. Received mine yesterday less than two weeks after I ordered it. Don't feel bad about it as Saints had sold out in my size so I couldn't get an official version anyway. The quality is unbelievably good - maybe it will fall apart when washed? I can't believe the audacity of the copy - it has a Puma tag and came in a Puma bag.
  6. They will get the points back. Imagine the legal battles if it caused them to be relegated
  7. Pile on your money on Wednesday beating us. Its not gambling its investment
  8. Arry wasted most of that window on Reid when right from the start he had made it clear he didn't want to join Saints, and why would he when Spurs was an option rather than relegation?
  9. That is a very good suggestion. The stadium is not a safe place to play football as it stands.
  10. My suspicion for the 85-87 kit, although I hate it, is that it is the only non-traditional stripes design that hasn't been revived. And it would fit Puma's template easily. I wouldn't be adverse to going way back in our history to have red and white quarters.
  11. Too nice to ever have a chance. I do wish we could go back to navy blue shorts. And navy blue socks would be great.
  12. I was never brought up to hate Portsmouth. Before and after the war my uncles used to cycle regularly from Southampton to Fratton Park to watch division one games. I was pretty ambivalent about them. And then I went to the cup game in 84. Front row seat in the stand above the home terrace, separated by a matter of feet. I was pelted with coins and came home covered in spit and bananas. That changed my opinion radically. The way I explain the difference between us to people who don't understand is that someone could wear a Pompey shirt in Southampton with relatively safety. Walk around Southsea in a Saints shirt and you wouldn't last five minutes.
  13. Interesting selection. I have a shoebox full, with the earliest being West Ham away in 1970. The Luton ticket is from the League Cup tie in January 1989. However, for the FA Cup tie in January 1988 we were the first team allowed to take away supporters after the ban in 1986 and were issued with credit card style passes to get through the turnstiles - wonder if anyone has one of those?
  14. I am fully expecting the Steve Zodiac shirt from 85 to 87 to be revived
  15. Since the shirt has now sold out in larger sizes I wouldn't have any issues in using alternative sources
