Back then, millions. As far as I recall, Brand said Sachs grand-daughter was a great ****, or something similar. I don't think she was particularly arsed, or Sachs particularly in the dark. I wouldn't be happy with the scenario you dreamed up there, but neither am I saying Sachs should be. Not the worst crime in the world though, is it? Not particularly relevant to what he's saying now, so there is no reasonable cause to bring it up now. Besides, my daughters don't go around dressed like this, or orbit in circles where Brand might be about. That's a fair point, and one I often wonder about. Why didn't Esther Rantzen, founder of Childline, report Savile's activities at the time? She knew about him. My best hypothesis is that she knew it wouldn't matter, because it went way beyond the BBC. That's nice, but what's it got to do with Russell Brand?

I've been to two of the games, expecting football, not Disneyland. We should take it seriously, too. The League Cup hasn't been made worthless by a few big clubs de-prioritising it. Trophies aren't easy to come by in football. How many times do you hear of players buggering off somewhere else because they want to win things? Win three games, one over two legs, and we've won a trophy. Get it done, Saints.

I used to be the sort of fan that supported according to my underlying principles, which is essentially to honour the choices I've made in life, like living in the north or not getting involved with petty regionalism when we're not playing Portsmouth. I'd sheepishly go silent during "southerners" or anti-Northern songs and wouldn't really involve myself with the Pompey stuff either. Itchen North changed me. Outside of the ground, I'm still a nice person; I gave a quid to a begging Pompey fan at London Bridge station, which was lovely and all that. I'm not about to swap the long locks for a crew-cut or the Guns N Roses tees for River Island and fisticuffs with the opposing fans, but I am a mindlessly tribal c**t after I've taken my seat. Millbrook Saint made a point about the wind-ups, a huge part of Itchen North and one of my favourite things about it. That's why I've no problem with the banter and the tribalism. I sang anti-Northern songs with my missus and kid next to me. They know the score, and so do the away fans. It's nearly all good fun and top class if you're a Saints fan - but probably the worst place to be if you're an away fan standing in the home end. Last game of last season wasn't nice.

You ever tried watching NFL over there? FFS. You'll have bought ten new cars and an insurance policy by game's end (artificially padded for sponsors and suchlike).

Take it from someone that does a lot of long-distance driving. The roads in this country are a f**king joke. It's getting to the point where I'm starting to fear every transition from one road to the next, because one small problem f**ks everyone else up. I live in the North West. It really shouldn't be a thing for me to drive to a football match sixty f**king miles away and have a reasonable expectation of getting there within 2 hours, yet I ended up taking the train and I'm bloody glad I did. The M6 southbound was rammed yesterday, according to Google.

I haven't, because like most other US sports, baseball is fkn boring.

Since he made people laugh on Big Brother's Big Mouth, perhaps? They all paid their price at the time, iirc. Is it your view that people should be punished forever for telling Manuel that one of them banged his grand-daughter? Accountable to whom?

Do names really matter that much? I mean, you'd never think someone called Madison Bumgarner would be a success on basis of name, but..... http://www.theguardian.com/sport/video/2014/oct/30/san-francisco-giants-madison-bumgarner-world-series-kansas-royals-video

Complete nightmare on Monday. Can't even rely on late night drives either, as they tend to use that time to shut roads down. Ah, who needs the M42 anyway?
-
Back in my Newcastle under Lyme hotel and reflecting on a good game. Stoke fans were sound. The old man and I got the shuttle bus in with a load of them. They love the eat off the floor chant. They actually sang it en-route, swapping "you" for "we". Top class. Lot of nice things to say about Saints, and once again goes to show that the nobends that post on football forums aren't representative, myself included. Dirty team, though. Can't help being reminded of dogs with bad owners. Little Sparky on the touchline losing his cool all the time. Must rub off. Sorry to Bucks Saint for missing you, but I daresay Sheffield will be a better night out than Stoke.

The fans suggesting a loaned out player will be in goal are the best.

So very sorry to hear about your musical impediment. Have ATOS classified you as fit to work?

Saw Tariq Ali give a speech at a Left Unity meeting. He thinks France is coming to the end of its 1789 ideals, largely because of the rise of the National Front there.

He didn't call him a c**t though. Just said other people did

The following all factored in. 1. Being called PAUL 2. Being limited to 3 characters on 80s arcade high scores table 3. PAU not really definite enough. Trailing vowel. Could go anywhere. 4. My initials, PAT, not really manly enough and again, could go anywhere. 5. It's phonetically pleasing to say. 6. It's easy to spell. 7. It's already taking the píss out of itself. Poor Charlie had to go for "pap smear" or "pulp" when he was having a pop, neither of which are worse than the dictionary definition of "pap". 8. Palindromic. 9. It's "papular" with the ladies* 10. People call me it in real life. * not remotely true

Same here, and I'm only coming from Liverpool. I could drive, but fancy a beer and also don't fancy trying the M6 at around 18:00. Public transport looks dodgy enough if the match is only 90 minutes, but a bloody nightmare if it goes to extra time, etc.

Fair play Bournemouth. League cup quarters for first time ever.
-
Until you pointed it out and told us how simple we all were, I didn't realise it had any bar "Manchester United". Fair play. You've found a video of your beloved Manchester United fans and the chap nearest the phone sounded vaguely coherent. But yeah, for clarity. I acknowledge it contains words. I acknowledge you can hear those words being sung by your beloved and complex Manchester United fans on a phone held a foot feet away from one of them. From where we were stood in the Itchen, the song your beloved, complex and inventive Manchester United fans were singing sounded like sludge. I hope this post is clearer than they were.
-
Positive, ta ☺ Sounded crap from where we were, ten seats and an aisle away. Couple of people asked wtf they were singing. Doesn't sound that great on the video either.

Your post stands alone, even explaining your rationale (with a great deal of theory and omission, I might add). You claim the EU isn't undemocratic, yet have no answer for the people of Greece, Spain or any other country that might have its democracy suspended at the behest of the EU Commission. Voters have no direct say on the executive branch of the EU. Most EU legislation is enacted via statutory instrument and not even debated in Parliament. These are big examples of the undemocratic EU at work that your "EU For People More Ignorant than Tim 101" post doesn't really address.
-
I thought your point was that the EU isn't undemocratic, and that anyone that didn't know that was just too ignorant (temporary or otherwise) to understand how the EU works.
