In case anyone wants some added incentive to support our girls tonight, the US coach was born in Portsmouth!1
-
We weren't terrible in the first half but some bold substitutions at half time and we found an extra gear for the entire half for sure. Austin and Hojberg weren't at their best. Spurs couldn't handle Simms and Valery. Not that Simms was that effective, but he was a willing runner and allowed Valery to have much more space than he should have been allowed. Redmond a handful. As was Armstrong when he came on. Ward Prowse goalscoring record makes him the first name on the team sheet. I am concerned that our forwards aren't scoring though - its going to hurt us sooner or later and we need Ings back before that day comes. In the meantime, a great team performance and resolute defending with a commanding goalkeeper saw us home. Great result.

Saints appoint Marieanne Spacey - Cale Head of Women's & Girl's Football
sifter replied to Monk's topic in The Saints
In May next year the club will hold open trials for the girls academy. They do it each year - competition is tough especially once you reach 10+ as your daughter would need to be better than one of the girls already in the academy - its not good enough to be'good enough' - she needs to be better. Still, worth a punt though and good experience either way. -
corrrection - I do have a france server to use. But if someone using Kodi with Halow could tell me what I need to select to watch the match tonight i'd be most grateful
-
What are you using tonight? I've installed Halow with Kodi but not sure which channel to use and which country to be from? There is no france option which would work for BeIn
-
Hi guys - I'm using Cyber Ghost 5 VPN which seems to give make it appear that I am in any country in the world I want to be in. Can you recommend any websites that will stream the game tonight and dont require me to install anything or pay to sign up. I.e. they will work if I pretend i'm in the USA, or Egypt etc... Cheers. JP

My email to the club concerningpre-game music and atmosphere
sifter replied to sifter's topic in The Saints
Just to answer some of the comments: I should have said PA, not tannoy. Thanks for correcting me. 'That song would have been loved by all if it had come out at a different time...' - I thought it was a joke the first time I heard it. I didn't equate it to any particular time of the season. In truth, I thought it was Ralph Krueger singing, or one of his mates or something. I assumed that it would never be played again...but it seems like they are trying to make it part of our pre-match ritual. I appreciate opinions are like arseholes, but this 'song' is an embarrassing joke. 'If none of the above change I will stop going to matches eventually.' - I say this just because I'm grumpy now and the older people get the grumpier they get. Obviously, I can watch matches on tv and/or just go to away games etc.... I hope It wouldn't come to that, but I used to get to the ground really early to savour the atmosphere - I dont do that anymore, because there is no pre-match atmosphere. Just music. I'm glad they put a decent PA system in by the way. I'm not moaning about that. I'd just rather they didn't play music on it 10 mins before the match starts, rather than 10 seconds before the match starts so we can get some pre-match atmosphere back. -
Hello, Some points to establish credibility I've been attending home games since 1985 when I was 10 years old. My daughter plays for Southampton Girls Development Squad I'm a musician (see below for relevance) Like many, i miss the the Dell, but times move on and we needed to move house. I get it. However, a couple of things have changed in the last 10 years which are not for the best. I really hope that you reply to this, but more than that I hope it makes a difference. If you have even a few mails like this one then you should take notice because most people would not take the time to write. Issue are: 1. The loudness of the tannoy. It got louder this season. Its hard to hear the person next to me now. Ok if I was having to shout because of the noisy fans....but its because of the music loudness. 2. At the Dell, the singing of fans before the match was fantastic. Now this is impossible. Even if you turn the tannoy down, The music is played right up to kick-off, the fans cant compete. Its a football match, not a concert. After the player warm-up the music should stop, allowing 10 mins for the fans to 'warm-up' and for the players to stand in the tunnel and hear the fans singing and be greeted by loud cheers as opposed to what they come out to now, which brings me onto... 3. That song. The one that we've started playing directly before kick-off. The one that sounds like a bad Frank Sinatra impersonator singing 'We are Southampton!' in an 'American trying to sound like an englishman' type way. Its awful. Really awful. Please ditch this song'. Its embarrassing. If none of the above change I will stop going to matches eventually. It might take another 10 or 20 years but if at 42 I'm feeling isolated, by the time I'm 60 I will not want to be at St Mary's. I realise if we implement all 3 of my suggestions above, we would not be in keeping with other premiership football clubs. But isn't that the point? 'We are Southampton' We should do it the Southampton way!
-
Sounds like its going to be a Tuesday or Wednesday then? Am assuming given proximity to season end we have now run out of weekends without matches.
-
Morning - Anyone know when this tie is likely to be re-arranged for? I cant see anything on website and whilst I realise they might not be selling tickets for it, someone must know when it is going to be?
-
Congratulations. Every paragraph was misguided. Impressive consistency.

My 9 year old daughter and I were lucky enough to have a staircase in front of us. If not, my daughter would of missed most of the action. It is possible to sit down and be excited. Standing up every time the ball comes near the goal is selfish and if you can't control that instinct, stay home because it creates a chain reaction throughout the ground. I realise the other option is my daughter and I and all the other people (disabled, old etc...) stay home. That's fair enough. I realise this post will change nothing. ah well....we will be at Watford on Saturday fingers crossed we get someone equally small or disabled in front of us.
-
Its bitsy is the right song. Just need the chorus imo.
-
Fair point. It is simplistic and maybe the family are making a bit of a profit but I think the vast majority of 'profit' is being ploughed back into the club.
-
To the best of my knowledge it is. I'm hanging onto the principle that they are trying to run the club as a business that doesn't spend more than it earns. So, if we sell a player for 10 million, we buy for 7 million and the other 3 million is put aside to pay his wages for the 3 years. This makes sense to me and stops me jumping on the 'we've sold 100 million of players but only spent 60 million' bandwagon. That said...this summer we needed to sign a striker and a centre back. Regarding Striker: Puel (who had only been at the club for a month-ish when transfer window closed) thought we had enough firepower with Long, Austin, Redmond and J Rod. I admired this decision because it should have been a confidence boost to those 4 and surely one of them can score 20 goals....! Except I think we all knew they wouldn't but I'm not sure which one we should have sold (Probably long but we gave him a new contract because he had half a dozen decent games at the back end of the season). Now with Austin injured and everyone else not really scoring, we've had to buy a striker who on the face of it has a similar 1 in 3 or 4 goal record. Not great. But I hope he does well. Defender We needed to buy in the summer. Fonte had made a couple of nasty errors of judgement in last couple of seasons and clearly having 2 very good centrebacks (or 3 if you include yoshida) is not enough because we need competition in all areas....which means we need 4 good centre backs. So, we needed to buy in the summer and we didn't and I dont understand why not. Most things the club does make sense to me....but not that one. Then we sell Fonte. I understand why. But we dont then go and buy 2 centre backs. We dont even buy one. We dont even get one on loan. We are relying on Yoshida who I actually like, but up until 3 games ago he was viewed as a competent back-up who averages 1 mistake per game. Stephens, who could be amazing....but he has only played about 3 games at top class level. Gardos - The jury was out on him 2 years ago when he was last fit. Surely he cant be relied upon until next season as he will need that to get match fit and up to speed (See J Rod for example). Van Dijk - Sounds like he is gonna be out for weeks to come and will then need time to come back and get match fit. So we've got one established centre back when we should have 4. And we didn't even get one on loan. I'm baffled. I think Saints messed up and we are gonna have to show some serious spirit to move up and not down that table now... I'll be cheering us on but....we really shouldn't be in this situation.
-
Is JRod injured? Didn't catch the press conference so not sure if his absence tonight is relevant.

Club confirmed that forthcoming fixtures against both Arsenal in FA Cup and West Ham in League count. So for those of you sat on 3 or 4 games so far this season....get online! West Ham nearly sold out from what I can see.
-
There are 20 qualifying games. Only 18 competitive games so far have been played. Does that mean buying tickets for Arsenal in FA Cup and West Ham count as qualifying? I've asked club on Twitter as I want a definite answer, not opinion. Let me know if anyone knows for sure.

Puel got the tactics right in both games. Dont let the ball into the penalty area unless its from a cross. Completely stopped Liverpool passing the ball on the ground centrally. Marked the players in the box but let players outside the box have the ball. Was brilliant to watch and Saints were so disciplined for 190 mins! Romeo did the work of 2 players. Yoshida stepped up a lead the line very well. Stephens had a couple of nervy moments but he got the better of them and gets my MOM award just for filling the boots of probably the best centreback in the premiership. Can't wait for the final and providing we dont get relegated a season where we reach the final of the League cup with victories over liverpool and arsenal on route is a successful season.
-
No he wouldn't because if he got injured his transfer would be off.
-
I hope we sign Emanuel Mammana just so we can sing Mammana do do do dodo Mammana do do dodo Mammana dodo do dodo do dodo dodo dodo dodo dodo do!

We are 4 games without a league win. Aside from that we are doing good. We just got 8 million for a player that had his head up his arsenal and was making mistakes the last 2 seasons. We have a manager who doesn't seem set to leave for better things. We are on the lookout for a striker but won't panic buy We have no debt I just remembered this isn't the positivity thread Feel free to shoot me down in flames but I'm much happier than I was before les got involved in the club.
