For me it’s quite a simple equation, the risk of changing manager versus the absolute certainty of relegation if we don’t.

There is a huge assumption we will storm the championship. What if it doesn’t pan out that way, what if we don’t dominate Pompey. What if the squad gets ripped apart. What if Russell stays but this time every team has worked out how to nullify us? To me the risk is too great. We should at the very least give it everything to attempt to stay up. New manager, couple of good January signings…. Anything is possible until it’s not.

Agreed, you can’t have him sulking and stinking out the place. He’s far to conceited to accept advice with good grace.

I didn't bother posting this before, it seemed a bit petty, but now I think, so what! I was sitting directly behind the coaches and subs at the Everton game. Martin jumped up to remonstrate with the fourth official at something he didn't like. However, between "jumping up", and "dashing over" to the fourth official, he actually took a time-out to coiffure his hair with both hands, presumably in preparation for the cameras panning to him. He really is a vain chap, not someone I can relate to at all.

Ralph was very bad for this as well as we witnessed during the lockdown games, hearing his minute by minute instructions. Letting the players play and adapt and react to what is actually happening is another aspect of modern football (see also life in general), that is sucking the joy out of the spectacle.

The actual context was lack of suitable English managers for the England job!
-
What surprised me more with this one is that it was Howe who bought him into the conversation. He wasn’t directly lead into it by Jordan.

Eddie How on the up front podcast with Simon Jordan “Russel Martin has a great future” what am I missing?

How was that not a penalty? It’s totally shit when you are down the bottom

That’s what I thought which is why I’m not bothering with the exchange. At least I’ll still have my ticket if we get a new manager in for then.
-
lol, you said professional

Why, that tweet by Alfie really doesn’t say that much. Maybe there is a meeting today, they probably wouldn’t hold it a St Mary’s given the attention it would attract. Maybe that was the meeting held before Chelsea? It doesn’t matter if he goes today or next week, as long as he goes and the new man has time to assess his resources and be involved in the January window. That’s not to say sooner wouldn’t be better.

That passes the bar for my burden of proof threshold, so if it’s all the same to you I will take it as fact.
-
Possibly, that’s what I’m interested in.

What gives rise you your “belief” I’d be really interested to know. I’m not calling you out, just noting you rarely post and have chosen this time to make a statement?

Because we, in the main, are desperate for it to be true and will latch on to anything that gives us hope,

Russel was rather hoping we’d sing songs of praise to him. He has noted a few suggestions:- hark the herald Russell speaks once in royal Russell’s city while Russell grooms his beard at night ding dong pass it round the back oh come ye love Russball, joyful and triumphant (in terms of possession, the real triumph) And many more

All of those things can be true. Whether he wants to be here or wants a pay off is not relevant, either way he will be extremely wealthy man, especially considering his complete ineptitude.

To para-paraphrase “I didn’t actually have any ideas in the first place but thanks to you suckers I’ll never have to work again”
-
The injustice is, if he chooses, he would never have to lift a finger again having been rewarded so handsomely for his unprecedented failure.

The good player relations and his popularity within the club hierarchy may be true, but where was coming from, in my experience, being nice and being popular will not prevent you losing your job when you are abjectly failing in your primary role. This, one would reasonably assume to be, to amass enough points to remain in the premier league, or at least give it a really good go.
