  1. I wouldn't say the whole keep up with the kids progress is a valid argument. I still receive paper reports for my daughter at secondary school and the ones at primary. I would honestly say that children at secondary school are at a reasonable disadvantage without a PC though. At least, that's what I've seen from my daughters 2 years at St Annes. She does an awful lot of work in Office (primarily PPT and Word with a little Excel). I know there's the ability to use the library, but they don't have nearly enough computers, my local library PCs are always busy. Vote buying, yeh so what, they're all up to it! More lies and BS coming our way in the next six months. Which leads me onto..... Cracking cover on the front of the latest Private Eye, certainly made me chuckle! http://www.private-eye.co.uk/covers.php?showme=1253&
  2. A great birthday present for me! We're building a great team and squad, come on lads, lets get into the playoffs :-D
  3. Yeh sorry Verbal, I should have gone straight to the convicted fraudster :-D And hopefully he does mean us rather than the blue few.
  4. Thought that the gulf stream would "dive" and miss the UK was the one thing most scientists could agree on! Do you have any links to this change of thinking from a non biased scientific organisation?
  5. I thought it was 9m for Gaydamak at end of Jan with 28m due in 2012. Why would they pay off the 28m two years early, doesn't make sense given their predicament. Anwyay, I can't see them finding 40m bhat let alone pounds!
  6. Bexy, the de-salination of the gulf stream and the effects on the climate of the UK and Western Europe cannot be questioned by St George and one of his poxy graphs, hence no reply.
  7. The cold snap we've had in the UK and Europe has been caused by the North Atlantic/Artic Oscilliation being in a negative phase, climate change is irrelevant here St George. http://nsidc.org/arcticmet/patterns/arctic_oscillation.html http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/264999/
  8. Credit where credit is due (Thorpe et al), my kids school in Woolston is open today for pupils who can make it in. The others in Woolston are shut today though.
  9. I too have to commute a long way to work, it's not a free baby sitting service I pay 40% taxes thanks very much. And I also leave for work @ 7am in the morning. By closing the schools the knock on for the rest of the country is massive. I bet you'd be the first person complaining if your post wasn't delivered or your Guardian never arrived at the shop this morning. ;-) I'm not having a go Thorpe, I just think we're too namby pamby these days. If the ice in the play ground is an issue, keep the kids in as they do when it's raining, not too difficult is it surely?
  10. My missus managed to get to the Uni ok. not all roads are ok I admit. but the main routes are, otherwise the buses wouldn't be running.
  11. Mike, I guess it all depends on location really. The main roads leading to my kids school in Woolston are fine, I'm sure out in the sticks things might me more precarious.
  12. Which is fair enough, I'm thinking more local to Southampton here BTF. The conditions are not that bad around here.
  13. Not when they're under 12, very little homework to do. I was just pointing out that the snow and ice are acceptable to everyone apart from the health and safety freaks. Was this such an issue when you were young, I don't remeber it being so for me, I'm 39.
  14. I couldn't go to work today as I had to look after the kids. If I could have I would have driven to work in Bournemouth from Southampton. I know that not all teachers live next to the school, but the roads in Southampton are fine, the buses are running, the only dodgy roads are side roads and they're passable with sensible driving. Put it this way Ron, how do other snow bound countries seem to keep their school systems running quite happily. I lived on the outskirts of Geneva for 2 years and in the winter it snowed regularly as the elevation was around 550m, the kids had 1 day off school in that entire time.
  15. I do yes.
  16. I agree, but is that the message we want to send out! Kids break an arm or leg as long as you're not in school so we're not liable for any claims? They could just not allow the kids outside as they do when it rains.....
  17. I bloody hope not, got cabin fever at home, had two weeks with the kids over xmas already! BTW, just check on BBC Solent website 106 schools across Hampshire closed tomorrow with more being added during the day. http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/hampshire/hi/front_page/newsid_8418000/8418474.stm Fareham college is open for staff but not pupils!
  18. I guess the question is Cremation or Burial?
  19. Now, I'm all for the schools closing on the first day while it was still snowing, but where are they going to draw the line? The forecast is freezing conditions until at least Tuesday according to BBC with snow on Sunday and Monday in Soton. To keep the schools closed Fri, Mon and Tue is a joke surely? I know that's not planned yet, but I can't see what will change between now and Tuesday based ont he forecast. If health and safety issues are the reason for closure, where do they think the kids go when they're not in school. Out on the ice and snow or tucked up in doors reading and doing maths?
  20. From the same article..... Gaydamak told fansonline.net: "It is my opinion that they [the debts] were fully serviceable and no worse or better than any other club in the context of the Premier League. In fact, the debt ratio at Portsmouth was probably one of the lowest." I'm sorry but Gaydamak you're deluded if you REALLY thought those debts were servicable. LOL
  21. BBC were quoting 60% chance earlier, looks like a racing cert at the moment I'd say. Bet we only get 5cm though!
  22. http://southamptonweather.co.uk/rainradar.php Another usefull site tracking the rain/snow/sleet
  23. Indeed they have, there will be no march now based on this predictable response from the BNP. Any request will be denied on the basis of public order, mind you I think that was always going to be the result. Islam4UK have their publicity they've craved, much as Griffin did on QT.
  24. I read somewhere today that of the 11m due, 7m would be going to the clubs with the remainder to HMRC as it's against the rules for Prem clubs to owe any money to the tax authorities. Surely they must be due a points deduction, there have to be some irregularities there somewhere! Ref O'Hara, they don't need to return him yet, but the transfer embargo will stay unless the league can be sure the financial predicament (bit of an understatement!) will be resolved by the end of the season.
  25. I'm surprised no one else has commented on the Radio4 piece today with the head of Islam4UK. You'll love this aintforever, when asked a very similar question about Muslim on Muslim killing, and the fact that many more are killed that way rather than by the "Infidels". The deluded fool said that the Taliban were not killing these Muslims, the attacks were being funded by the US and UK. We're apparantly paying for Asian militants to bomb, maim and kill to justify the war with our taxes. He also refutes the legitimacy of the UN reports on deaths, beatings, killings preferring to rely on reports from those trying to free their country from the infidels, I.E. the taliban, WTF! Sad, deluded, fool. Oh, BTW, non Muslims killed by anyone. I don't think you'll find they give a sh*t
