  1. PFC123, it's going to be funny as feck if you don't get 20k+ for this six pointer.
  2. Hopefully there will be some fallout from this debacle. On transfer fronts I'd like to see all debts settled when you sell a player on. Bit like a car, no HP/outstanding charges can be in place when you sell. The fact that pompey still owe money for transfers where they've sold the player on sucks. But for 4m, sell for 12m but they still owe money for Muntari is all wrong.
  3. PEDG, absolutely 100% correct. It wasn't just Pompey paying their current creditors, they needed to prove they could meet future payments and that a long term funding source made them viable (or words to that effect). Sounds like this requirement has now been watered down significantly.
  4. Missus was using SPSS this week, she bought a cracking book. Statistics for people who don't like using statistics. Well, something like that title. I guess if you've been using it for your degree course so far though it might not give you much information. Think the book is about £30.
  5. Hampshire Tennis and Health club at west end is nice, but a bit pricey. Classes included in the price and they've just had a refit in the gym with all new equipment. Think single membership is £67. Indoor, Outdoor pool as well. Quays is great value for £37, but does get a bit busy.Mind you, platinum membership allows you to use Bitterne, Weston or the Quays.
  6. I'd be more excited by a points penalty for financial irregularities :-D
  7. Sounds like someone is playing real life champ manager here! Another f'ing bizarre piece of business by Pompey. It's not just saggy face that buys players and never plays them then.
  8. Indeed, 50 metres away from the initial incident and was cornered by two people. Why not just hand him over to the police. Yes, he'd be annoyed as would I, but this fella picked up a cricket bat and chased him, and beat him to a pulp. A few "slaps" would've been acceptable in my eyes, but the bat was excessive.
  9. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/Bankable-assets-tipped-to-depart.6001963.jp "The sales are on for another 11 days. And somehow Pompey must recoup at least £11.75m if they are to stand a chance of remaining in existence. That is according to Pompey accounts leaked to The News" Happy happy days...... Rather bizarrely from the same article..... "These accounts – if they are legitimate – are dated December 3, 2009. Intriguingly, they also show Pompey rather ambitiously plan to spend £10.99m on players this month."
  10. Double Agent Redknapp, did what we asked after getting us relegated, went back and overspent :-)
  11. oh man, you mean there'll no longer be a glass and a half of milk? What just 3/4 of a glass?
  12. TDD, Climate change and the weather are two different things. There is a link, but short term weather is just that.
  13. suicidewatch.com was in full overdrive after the game then I guess? I didn't even bother to read the comments from the knee jerk crew.
  14. Not sure of the full (Manchester) circumstances here, but wasn't there a fella relatively recently who threw himself onto the bonnet and held on for several hundred yards before being thrown off and killed? Not sure what I'd do in that situation, but sitting here at the moment I'd have to say take the car, it's insured. Thankfully we've not gone down to the levels of car jacking in Leeds for example where guns/knives were being pulled on people. My brother lives in what we shall say is not the nicest area, I always lock my doors when driving around. I don't think anything goes through these peoples minds when committing these offences, they're too stupid to think, breath and drive at the same time.
  15. From the BBC.... But despite this, Storrie says morale at the club is still quite high. "It has affected the staff more than anything as their salary levels are much, much different to that of professional players. They tend to get hit hard with bank charges because of delayed payments and we try and help out as much as possible." Surely Peter, if you're calling for the embargo to be lifted you can pay the full bank charges for the normal staff screwed over by salary payment issues.
  16. Elmore, it's not that simple, we're a service sector economy now. I dread to think how many jobs would be lost if London was no longer a huge financial centre, that would have a massive financial impact on the UK as a whole. Lost personal taxes, lost corporation tax, bankers tax :-), more unemployment/benefits payouts, lack of NI contributions. It's not just the bankers, think of all of the support services around the City of London. Shops, couriers, cleaners, security guards, taxis etc etc. That said, now Obama has given some direction the rest of the world will follow.....
  17. Absolutely, which is a good thing, sorry if that didn't come across. Was trying to point out to previous poster we need to be on a level playing field globally instead of moaning at brown for only implementing the bonus tax. Now this has come out I'm sure the government will do something more radical. Like it or not, the financial services sector bring huges amounts of money into UK PLC. If the sector was decimated by companies and people leaving it would be a disaster. Now that's unlikely.
  18. In fairness to some of the banks, why should they all pay for others financial mismanagement and poor risk management? As an example, JPMorgan never made a quarterly loss during this crisis, whereas Citigroup, Bank of America made massive losses due to poor risk management along with Freddie Mac, Fannie Mac etc. I'm not against this, the but banks take the brunt of anger when AIG got 80bn dollars and who knows when the US will get that back if ever. My own personal belief is that we as a nation need to get the **** out of this love affair with mortgages and housing. It's a vicious cycle of rising prices, more complex financial instruments to deliver the mortgages leading to rising prices and more risk taking by the financial services industry etc etc. The French property markets are far more stable because generally they buy a house and live there for 20+ years. When I looked at buying a house there, I was looking at needing about 60k for the solicitors fees and deposit alone, hence not may moves in a life time. Also the banks I spoke to would only loan me a multiplier on around 30% of my take home pay.
  19. He was the first person globally to put such a tax on bankers bonuses, he made the first move. It would have been suicide for the UK financial services industry to put this in place without other countries doing the same. Frankfurt would be falling over backwards to get a slice of the London markets. I work for one of the big US banks, there are articles citing my bank saying they might leave London if the government taxed them unfairly. Now, while that's throwing their toys out of the pram it may well have happened. With Obama coming out with this, I'm sure other countries will now follow suit and we may also get a European wide direction/agreement.
  20. With Murty's injury problems very happy with this 6 month contract signing as cover at RB.
  21. No one knows the real reason, why are you all getting so freaked out by it. So what, we had a deal then decided against it, and? We were probably just hedging our bets, but I don't know so cannot say and we should not speculate on how right or wrong NC was. That said, my speculation! Maybe the savings in wages will be going to the next signing according to the saints tweet! Seaborne and Stock or just Ward........
  22. Doh! Yeh I knew what I meant :-D
  23. "questioning people without grounds for suspicion was illegal" A bit wooly in my eyes, what constitutes grounds for suspicion? In Dune's eyes all Asians fit into that criteria. As would have all Irish during the "troubles", actually, that would have to be all whites as the majority (I'd guess) of Catholics are white in the UK. But I do agree, stopping it completely is madness.
  24. Dune, the loony left introduced S44 in 2000, whereas Chris Grayling (loony right) in todays independant said The tories would change the law to cut use of stop-and-search. How does that tally up with your loony left views? There are also some great statistics on Stop-and-search from 2008-2009 197,344 people were searched. 60% of these were White, just 15.6% were Asian or Asian British. How does that fit with your profiling? Sounds like an abuse of powers by the police to me (see below, and above) I was searched about a year ago, "because tensions were running high in the area (Woolston) after the murder of Lewis Hamilton". A murder that had happened about 12 months before the event. What a load of ****e, I was walking home from the pub with my brother in law on a friday night like 1000's of other people. And I'm white, terrorism my arse.
