  1. People these days don't grasp how massive the FA Cup was in the seventies. The whole country came to a standstill to watch on BBC (and a few on ITV). It was not the Cinderella side-show it is now. So, no keep the Cup. We will get into the Champions League anyway if Cortese keeps on delivering his promises....
  2. To whom is this addressed?
  3. The Ricoh also has amazing acoustics.
  4. I think we could easily install some character at St May's: - put in some period fireplaces, + Chesterfield debenture seating areas - replace industrial spec windows with proper sash wooden ones - free season tickets to several hundred curmudgeonly, cantankerous pensioners - real ale and malt whisky served on concourse bars
  5. He might come on from bench in last couple of games this season?
  6. I went in 93. Marginally less dull than Singapore - hope its improved in the last 20 yrs for your sake
  7. What a **** article - the Emirates section has a photo of Highbury, tells you all you need to know about the quality of the journalism. All newly promoted and smaller clubs are at the bottom because they couldn't be bothered to research them properly! Old Trafford hasn't had a decent atmosphere since late 90s. Etihad? Emirates? Just what their criteria are is beyond me. Wigan is utter ****e. St Mary's is not great if we are honest, crowd too far from pitch and no character, almost a dog track could fit around the pitch. They imply it is not even a bowl by saying it has 'standard 4 stands'. I never saw a 5 stand ground!!!!
  8. Certainly a hysterical reaction - just look at the archive footage of Luton-Milwall 1985 for some proper hooliganism. 2013 was a relative picnic. When we played 'wall at the Dell in '78 the game was dull as ditchwater and it was far more entertaining watching the continual skirmishing between saints and 'wall in the Milton, separated by, literally, a thin blue line of coppers. No tv, no press, just get on with it and go home. There's something rather pleasing about a bit of a scrap like the one at Wembley when we live in such a sanitised, risk averse, health and safety obsessed world. Hopefully no one tripped over and hurt themselves on their way out of the ground!
  9. Jesus.
  10. Al Quaeda inspired US based Muslim terrorists - McVeigh nutters wouldn't target Boston Marathon.
  11. 'Wall are steeped in the tradition of violence and are drawn from what was originally a Bermondsey/Rotherhithe/Deptford criminal and prison fodder sub-culture going back many generations, a couple of hundred years at least. Now they are mostly moved out to Bexleyheath, Chiselhurst, Erith and into Kent. Far prefer that in many ways to the bankers and their lawyer wives, alongside the tourists that make up Chelsea and Arsenal's home support these days.
  12. Why do people expect to be able to drive and park directly outside the ground and get away promptly? Park strategically well away but near to your exit motorway, and walk to the ground, via the pub or a restaurant. On capacity: no point in half-measures, in for a penny in for a pound. 100,000 to trump Old Trafford even of they extend their top tier all the way round.
  13. The new crest should be a top priority. It should include the following motifs: A central, allegorical narrative depicting a brace of Coteses Rampant, swords aloft, vanquishing a small but hateful army of Programme Sellers. Beneath this, a Leibherr earth mover is seen to be preparing a massive 98000 seat stadium site, flanked by heraldic trumpeter king prawns, these symbolising the burgeoning hospitality market and it's importance to the future of the club. Finally, the crest is complete being encircled by golden, European Flag style stars referencing the ambition and certainty of Champions League competition. Each star will, in turn, change from gold to platinum over the years to reflect our Champions League triumphs. This innovative aspect ensures the crest constantly evolves and is a fluid, living representation of the club, rather than the traditional fixed affair, mired in it's era.
  14. 0-0 written all over it.
  15. Leeds are a huge but dysfunctional and need major investment
  16. A likeable player who's heart was in the right place. Get well soon.
  17. We might play Anderlecht again. I remember crying on the stairs at home when they put us out of Europe in 78
  18. Quite. Having been there a few times now it is just as soulless as any modern place and the atmosphere even worse than 'the library' Highbury. Nice corporate facilities but these horizontally bisect the banks of fans right around the entire perimeter creating a natural 'break' in the spread of songs and atmosphere across the staduim, rather like a fire break stops the spread of bush fires. It is no coincidence in my view that they've won **** all since going there. Not the full story, but an overlooked factor.
  19. Massive result out of a frankly dull, poor game. Neutrals on Sky would have turned off in their droves. Well done chaps - these games are tough to win.
  20. Yes this is what my heart says too, I detest the club or more precisely it's recent history. Deeply dodgy unpalatable people involved such as 'Arry and Briatore. As someone else said, a classier Portsmouth.
  21. I think the yoyo strategy is coming apart at the seams though....!
  22. Yes, but when it is delivered with such relentlessness, and using repetitive, simplistic and trite vocabulary it loses any power eventually. The audience switches off.
  23. Pretty Vacant Or maybe full length Cygnet Committee
