The theory that as long as you keep the bll, the opposition can't score has been blown out of the water by the balance of the theory, which is when you don't have the ball, the other team score, and sciore, and score. In case Martin hasn't realised, thats why his teams finish in mid-table. Someone please prod him on the shoulder to remind him that winning sides, play againsst the ball so as to prevent conceding.

Not a prediction, but would love to see both Amo-Ameyaw and Ballard given a start. Telling them beforehand to expect a first half only would avoid discouraging either of them if it wasn't working out. But if it was, and a couple of goals went in, they could be left on for longer.

Good riddance to the so called 'premier league'. Not a competition when only one of about 4 teams can win. If an exception happens, such as Leicester, they soon get brought down to earth. Teams that reach the fringe of the top six, as Saints did a few managers back, as Brighton have this year, are soon stripped of their assets. Van Dijk, Mane, Shaw, etc. The Championship is a real competition. The sad thing about it is that the team that wins is relegated to the premier league, and has to start again. It's ironic that so many of the players who celebrate as they are awarded the Championship trophy, will be told by their club that they are no longer wanted. Notts Forest bought 22 players to create a team that would spend the season losing games and only avoid relegation because other teams were even worse. How much fun have Forest fans had this season? How sad to be celebrating 16th place in the table.

What irritates me the most about the game against Newcastle is that we are playing against a side managed by the man who should be the Saints’ manager. I blame Sports Republic for failing to I sack Ralph in the close season when Eddie Howe was available and waiting for the call. The decision to sack the coaching staff but keep the head coach is why we are where we are. Best thing for the club will be if the owners put it up for sale.

Of all the matches we have lost this season, this was the most embarrassing. Since the club was rescued by Marcus it has had advantages that Bournemouth could only dream about. We have a modern stadium, a state of the art training facility and a long established Academy. All of those advantages have been squandered in assembling a second-rate squad of inadequate players and a few journeymen. Few of the first team have any connection with Southampton. I look forward to a fresh start in The Championship where it may once again be possible to enjoy my team playing football Although I’d like to see them winning most of their games, I have no wish to see them back in the Premier League which is a flawed competition

Be fair, Jones' only failing was not bringing all eleven Luton players with him. His Bree Love Fest just wasn't enough.

Sorry Nick. Understand your intentions but giving a manager a fair crack when the club is out of the relegation zone is one thing but doing it when your team is bottom is another. In my opinion, Saturday against Brentford is a Must Win game.

I only heard the commentary on Radio Solent, and haven't yet seen a video of the whole game, but Adam and Joe were immediately critical of the line up with a back five. If I heard Adam and Joe correctly, after going 2 down the players were discussing the line up amongst themselves and shouting at the coaches. Only then did Jones agree to a back four but his change put players out of position. Walker-Peters was the worst example, as it wasted one of our best players. I was sorry KWP was injured but it forced a change to a better line up A typical failure of an inexperienced manager was to put James Bree into the starting line-o[ before he'd had any chance to settle-in to the club or come to terms with Premier League standard football. He was made to look like the manager's pet. The new signings up front might save the day in the league if they are played in their best positions but that has to be done with the whole squad. I'm not confident that Jones will pick players in the positions they know best but in any case, he's now damaged goods. Sacking a second manager might be an embarrassment but bringing in a someone with top level experience, should be considered even if it's just to the end of the season.

I feel we should be grateful for the break. Chance to clear up some injuries and for the new boss to settle in, getting to know the players without the pressure of matches. As for the WC, I’m finding it hard to get interested. I’ve got the tickets for the match against Notts Forest. I’ll be more excited about that game than I am in the WC, although if England get to the final, that would be different.

I was impressed by Nathan’s interview on the official site. He knows what he wants to do. I like his philosophy and his realism but mainly that he’s come here with a plan. Interesting to hear his wife and her family are Saint’s fans but especially that her great grandfather was a Saints’s player. Nathan’s in-laws being Saints’s fans will keep the pressure on him to succeed

I agree with this comment, despite having thought the club should have replaced him in the close season. To me, he comes over as a very nice bloke but he hasn't been able to achieve the results needed, last season as well as this. He should have answered for this, instead he saw his foot soldiers sacked. It leaves me concerned about the judgement of the Board but they have the opportunity in filling the job to show a determination to move the team up the table.

Against Arsenal, although I picked Lyanco as my Man-of-the-Match, the fact is that if it wasn't for Bazunu's brilliant performance the match would have been lost. Over and above expectations. It's easy to forget that he's only 20 years old because he plays with great maturity.. We are lucky to have him.

Every defeat is followed by Hassenhuttl telling the media how well we played and how positive it was, as if we hadn't lost. THis one being at home was even more unforegiveable. Ive no doubt the forward players, I hesitate to cal;l them strikers as they rarely strike, I've no dounbt they have shooting practice on the training ground. More practice isnt the answer. Getting the whole team to play faster and harder with a fresh approach to tactics is how to achive an improvement. To do that, we need to change the manager for someone who will shake this squad up and get tem playing at Premier League level. If Eddie howe or Brendan Rodgers (wash my mouth out) is sacked, lets have one of them! No need to go looking for some foreigner who doesnt know the game in this country.

Disappointed that our fans include people showing a lack of respect for The Queen by moaning about the postponement of football matches. Entitled to their opinions, of course, but sad all the same.

Go Now. The only way for RH to retain any dignity is to go before he’s pushed. He could at least earn some credit for the manner of his leaving.
-
If losing this game means the boot for Hasenhuttl, it could be just what we need.
-
The speculation is so rife now that Hassenhuttl has lost the confidence of the dressing room, it seems appropriate to have a new topic focused just on should he go, will he stay? if the rumours are true that a significant number of players are surprised he’s not yet been sacked, and if also the nes coaching team have doubts about him, surely those are factors thd owners cannot disregard. At the very least, we ought to have the deadly vote of confidence in the manager from the Board. Then we’d know he was on his way.
-
An away win at Tottenham was always unlikely; a draw would have been a sign of progress. A defeat was the probable outcome, especially when fans saw the manager’s team selection. But the game told us much more Hassenhuttl’s unfitness to stay in posr What was the point of buying Bella-Kotchap for him to spend 90 mins watching Velery and Stephens letting in 4 goals between them? At least he had the company on the bench of a Scotland international striker, also using the 90 mins learning how not to score goals.
-
Confident the recruitment team will get a striker of the calibre needed, probably two. If one is Dembele, that would suit us. As for Broja, based on last season, I can’t see him worth the silly money being written about. Hasn’t yet proved himself as a goal scorer.

If we were to get Eriksen it would show a determination that the new management have yet to demonstrate. For Saints, Eriksen could be the Jimmy Case of the 21st century.

Is Salisu overrated and is Bednarek unfairly blamed?
Professor replied to SaintJackoInHurworth's topic in The Saints
The selectors for the Poland national team must be very poor at assessing the quality of players to keep picking a centre back who is as bad as the experts on the Saints' forum have declared Bednarek to be. I wonder if some of the experts on here have applied for any of the coaching vacancies. The club could do with some people who know it all. -
The point of Sept is that the transfer window will have closed. It’s not about early results, which as you say, can depend on the fixture list. It is about the squad that has been assembled.
-
Typical to sack the underlings while protecting the boss. I'll give them until 1 Sept before deciding if to wash my hands of the club until there is a change.
-
Hasenhuttl's excuses for the latest in this string of defeats are totally unacceptable. He claims his team had no luck. He was upset that Leicester didn't hand out an equaliser after his defenders failed to deal with a lob into the area from which Leicester scored. But this game wasn't close. The team lost by four goals to one! Even that one wasn't scored in open play. To come up with stupid excuses makes him look ridiculous. He just needs to GO.

Report on the OS - "Hasenhüttl: We had no luck" So there we are. RH knows what is needed to improve results. Just get some luck. OMG
