I didn't say he was. There's a lot of solid keepers around who can catch crosses, make saves and kick a ball straight. One of them will do. Maybe we'll renew our interest in Strakosha from Lazio who is running his contract down, although it seems like Newcastle and West Ham are both more likely.

Presumably you mean any other Saints keeper rather than any other keeper in world football?
-
He's had 2 good games in a row and people are getting carried away. He's still inconsistent and his distribution is poor. We can do better.

Was funny when him and Saka were both trying to get the ball when the game was stopped in the second half. We actually did some good game management today. Players going down to break up play and Shane Long delaying, delaying and then kicking the ball away at the end for his yellow card was hilarious.

Good win. We obviously went with a formation to stifle them and it worked because their wide players rarely got behind our defence and they were restricted to cutting inside and trying to play through the congestion in the middle which was unlikely to work especially as they didn't have a striker fit. Playing like that meant we sacrificed attacking threat and we rarely created anything but managed to nick a goal after a good cut back from Moi and a sweet strike from Bednarek. Some good blocks and last ditch tackles in defence, with the midfield putting in a proper shift. Then when they did get a shot away Forster pulled off a couple of very good saves. Nice to be walking out the ground with 3 points, it's been a while.

Brighton with one of those late goals they were scoring earlier in the season. This is going to give Arsenal more impetus now. Big chance for them.

We've played 3 at the back quite a few times this season so he doesn't only change it because of a hammering. I'm happy with the full backs. Will be interesting to see if Valery plays well again in the 3. They seem to have a few players out so could be a chance for us today.

I swear I saw him reply to a football related tweet from MLT recently but just scanned through Benali's account and can't see it. Maybe he deleted it.

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.

Don't forget to pick up your free pack of wildflower seeds tomorrow.

Fair point. I wonder how much compensation they have paid out to managers over the last 5 seasons or so.

Why would anyone want to manage Watford? They are one of the most mental clubs in the top 4 divisions. Even managers who are doing well get kicked out.

Another vote for Millwall here. Good away game and always fun to see 14 year olds doing throat slit gestures and grown women giving us a load of shit. Makes me laugh because you get on the train with loads of their fans from London Bridge and then have to walk down a fenced off alleyway to the away end. Their fans are fine as long as you don't walk around Bermondsey taking the piss.

Petrol shortages in Winchester according to the Echo. Is it just because everyone around there drives stupid, massive, gas guzzling 4x4's or is this the start of another wave of mass panic where people will be cruising around trying to find petrol at 3am?

Saints have been cutting down on their carbon footprint all season judging by the lack of paper towels in the toilets.

What time are we leaving for the game? Got to be early if travelling that distance.

Did anyone get these today and have an idea of how well they are selling? I can get mine on Tuesday but might have to wait until Wednesday because one of my kids has a game less. Will they still be available or are we near sell out?

Free park and ride from the Rose Bowl is pretty decent for those travelling in from that direction.

Scott Bevan was half decent and an absolutely lovely bloke. Him and Daryl (much more moody) used to train my son. Goes without saying that it's much harder to get keepers through an academy and progress them into the first team. For a start there's only 1 GK position in a team. Secondly keepers mature at a much later age than most other positions. Partly this is due to mentality and maturity. How many keepers make their debuts at 18 or 19 in the premier league and then keep the jersey? Thirdly it's reasonably rare for teams to rotate keepers to a great extent, you can't use substitutions to give them first team experience. It's so much easier with an outfield player to put them in the matchday squad and give them 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there and a League Cup game but that's not really going to happen with a young keeper. Most, if not all the best keepers start off playing lower league at a young age and get signed after a season or 2 or 3 of good performances. There's the odd exception like Donnarumma who was playing regularly for AC Milan at 16/17 but that's quite freakish. Look at the top English keepers. Pickford, Sunderland academy, then a string of lower league loans before making his Sunderland debut aged 21. Pope, Ipswich academy, left for Bury, then Charlton, loads of lower and non-league loans, then bought by Burnley aged 24. Henderson, joined Man Utd from Carlisle academy. A few lower league loans before 2 seasons at Sheff Utd where he really showed his quality. Now back at Man Utd and can't get a game. He's now 25. Johnstone, another Man Utd academy graduate. Loads of loans in the lower league before 2 seasons on loan at Villa and then sold to West Brom. That's obviously just looking at English keepers, it seems other countries may trust them more at a younger age, or maybe it's just Atletico Madrid. De Gea and Courtois (after Chelsea bought him and loaned him straight out) were both in their first team at the same age Pickford was on loan at Bradford. I'd love it if we produced another decent keeper, and one who made their way into the first team but it's so rare that I'm not sure it's anything anyone should feel negative to the club about.

Yeah, Niemi was better. I really can't think of a weakness in his game and he pulled off some absolutely world class saves. Flowers didn't make many mistakes and was a solid all round keeper.

2 days off if it's midweek. Up there for just after lunchtime and straight on the beers. Go to the game and then lord it around the Northern Quarter singing Saints songs until 3am.

Sorry, I was looking at a result from the end of last season. Oops.
-
How they hell we lost 5-0 to Norwich earlier this season is a mystery. They only have 7 points all season and have let in 68 goals in 22 games. Very strange.
-
4 games to go, 2 of which are against Reading. If we carry on going strong they should be 2 favourable results. Leicester and Chelsea again are the other games. West Ham are 1 point behind having played a game more.
