We've really smashed the swimming. Really enjoyed the mixed relay, adds an element of excitement with men and women competing against each other in some legs. On the flip side the rowing has been a shambles. Very surprised to find out it has more funding than any other Olympic sport. Surely there's way fewer people competing around the country in rowing than athletics, cycling, martial arts, boxing and swimming?

Assorted Pedantry and Skimpy Leotards (split)

The BMX was brilliant, pity it was in the middle of the night. A gold medal winner dropping the F bomb in a live interview is always fun. Track cycling starts soon, that's my favourite part of the whole Olympics.

She couldn't run away because she'd already committed so many penalties that another one could have meant she'd have been disqualified. It was likely her opponent committed an infringement by pulling her while completing the winning kick but they'd already used their one video replay challenge and the ref didn't spot it.

Why have you put the part about mental health in quotation marks? Would you have done that if she'd 'broken her leg' or something? She's also a bit better than Messi or Ronaldo, she hasn't lost for about 8 years or something stupid. Roglic absolutely nailed that time trial today which was a little surprising after his recent form but fair play to him.

When Olympians say the phrase "Tom should medal" or "Tom should podium". Both are extremely annoying.

Does Phil Jones even still play football? I genuinely have no idea as I've not heard his name for about 3 years.

I know a couple of people who aren't having it, one of whom is a close friend. It came up in conversation once but since then we haven't discussed it because it's up to them if they take it and there's plenty of other stuff to talk about instead. I'm certainly not going to fall out with someone because they haven't taken the vaccine, why would I want to throw years of friendship down the drain?

The proper volleyball for the non perverts has already started!

Amazing result in the diving for Tom Daley and his mate. The mountainbiking is incredible, Pidcock will win if he doesn't fall off or have a mechanical.

The new Daniel Avery album is excellent and I'm not just saying that because he's one of the rare good musicians who has spent any time living in Southampton. It's a modern homage to late the 90's style of ambient techno which was popularised on Warp Records. Some gorgeous moments cut with with swirls of classic Ambient Works 2 era Aphex Twin all wrapped in Avery's warm fuzzy electronic blanket. I could listen to this all day.

Anyone who likes soul should give the Joel Culpepper album a spin. Sounds equal parts Curtis Mayfield, Prince and Childish Gambino. His voice is incredible.

I don't agree with vaccine passports and don't see how you can fairly have them anyway until all age groups have been offered the jab. We all know unvaccinated people are more likely to catch and transmit the virus, but you can't enforce a passport at an all ages event where kids will be in attendance and are just as likely to pass the virus on as an unvaccinated adult. In my opinion the only fair way for companies who wish to go down this route at the moment is to allow entry to people who either provide proof of vaccine or of a negative test regardless of age.

Is this the sort of stuff CollinsDic agrees with? Worth reading the whole thread as he details what all the speakers say.

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't notice her giving any credit to her opponent. Also worth noting the woman who beat her is a refugee. Jones is complaining her family weren't there but the other woman has fled her country and not really competed for 2 years because of it which would seemingly be more of a barrier to performing your best than not having your Nan sat in the crowd. She's obviously an Olympic legend with her 2 golds but sometimes you just have to respect the opponent for being tactically spot on with their performance and give them the credit they deserve.

Or schoolgirl error. Schoolchild error?
-
Turns out the Dutch team didn't know there was another rider ahead of them which even without radios is a huge schoolboy error. First medal for GB, a bronze in Judo.

I wonder what Taekwondo fans think about VAR? I thought it was good because it was the only time during the fight we got to see it slowed down so we could pick out what shots were landing. The cycling was also made better by no radios. Normally you'd have team directors shouting time gaps in their ear which would allow them to pace their effort to catch a break.

I love a bit of Olympics, a chance to watch the top athletes in the world compete in random sports I wouldn't otherwise bother with. All wrapped up in a neat 3 week package. Enjoyed the cycling road races, the women's one that just finished was pretty amazing. Probably one of the most incredible cycling wins I've seen. Can't wait for the track cycling. Not too bothered about the football. Quite interested to see the skateboarding and the BMX racing. Always love a bit of table tennis and then the athletics at the end. What's 3v3 basketball all about? Are they going to add 5 a side football next?

Why do they make these sort of things up? It's patently obvious that someone will find out it's fake. It just beggars belief.

As soon as a player is rumoured make up a song for them which includes a line about hating Pompey. If the signing is a centre back there must be a post reminiscing about the times we signed Van Dijk and Alderweireld. Anyone under 23 should be described as "young, hungry and guaranteed to improve." Something about Les Reed or Ross Wilson screwing us over. A short YouTube clip followed by posts where people who have never heard of the player judge his whole career off the back of a 3 minute highlight reel with a terrible Euro dance backing track made by a 14 year old who has been banned from his Xbox and has nothing better to do.

Maybe they mooting this policy to try and persuade more of the younger age groups to get vaccinated because the take up has dwindled. Festivals seem to be going with the policy that you are either vaccinated or have a negative test means those who haven't had a vaccine can still attend as long as they haven't had a dodgy false positive result!

Absolutely no way. Were you drunk when you posted this?

Sadly not. Maybe next year.
