Which Netgear model is it? Need to find which NAS OS it uses (probably a flavour of Linux) and which file system it uses. Potentially sticking the drive in a caddy and connecting it to a Linux OS system will get your files back.

Mashing the hell out of the buy now button - I'd done the same thing and got two *****il Lloyds decided the transactions were fraudulent and cancelled them). Site was so appallingly slow it was easily done.

Nutters. Mate at work accidentally ordered 4, he's sold his three spares at £75-£100 gross profit - enough to get his phone for free. Now they just need to turn up in the post (sold before they arrived...)

What a professional document. Showed it to the missus (who is a graphic designer) and she reckons a 10yo could have done better in 5 minutes with Notepad. Photoshoppers please gather, that thing has more mileage for mirth than our statue

Have all been excellent so far. Bigger Bragg fan than Weller but need to go out and download The Gift now, great listening to him talking about that time.

Reading the Master & Commander series (what the Russell Crowe film was based on) at the moment and alternating with sci-fi. Really enjoying Charles Stross' books at the moment - he does a mix of hard sci-fi and a strange mashup of HP Lovecraft, Cory Doctorow, and Alistair McLean in his Laundry series. Fave book I've read in the last 12 months is "Ready Player One" - if you grew up in the 80s playing computer games you'll love it.

To clarify "chunky" - what I meant was that the sharp edges make it hard/uncomfortable to hold compared to a more sculpted phone like some of the Androids (e.g. S3). It feels thick in the hand compared to a phone with rounded edges. Much preferred the 3GS and earlier iPhone designs. If it wasn't for the fact that the Nexus 4 has a built-in rubber bumper I wouldn't have bought it. Should point out I'm not anti-Apple - all my PCs are Macs and we have a couple of iPods and iPads. I prefer iOS to Android, its just the fact I can't get an iPhone in a chassis I like.

Growing up I was 100% in favour of abortion, and felt it was an issue for women to decide on, not blokes. Like many my attitude has changed somewhat as I've grown to understand what life means, particularly as medical technology has advanced. But ultimately I'm still in favour of it for the right reasons as long as the woman is given sufficient high-quality counselling on what it means. My missus had an abortion at 17 after being raped. She says part of her died when she had it, and still regrets it. Made worse by subsequently having a child years later who died young. She had poor advice and with hindsight sometimes feels she should have kept the child. At the time she felt it was impossible - she was responsible for care of her father and had a full-time job as well. Doesn't stop her from being haunted by her decision. As a prospective father if I was put in the position where the woman carrying my child wanted an abortion I think I'd find that very hard to accept. Probably only on the grounds of such severe disability that it would mean that the child would have no quality of life. Certainly not for genetic conditions like Downs. And certainly not for the reason "we only wanted a healthy child". Only other grounds would be if the health of the mother was in danger for the simple fact that if the mother dies the baby dies too. With the advent of the morning after pill there is very little scope for accidental pregnancy in my book. It has to be made to be hardest decision in the world to make, I think its far too easy for younger women to choose it as an option, and one that they will regret later in life.

Alongside the big Androids (S3, HTC One series, and Nexus 4) the iPhone 5 doesn't stack up all that well. Part of my job is mobile comms so get to use most of the new handsets coming out as people at work get them and the iPhone is a bit underwhelming. Bit too chunky, not nice in the hand (neither was the iPhone 4, which is why you get so many with cracked screens), screen not big enough and wrong aspect ratio. Starting to lag behind Android a little now. Having said all that, the latest generation iPod Touch is utter porn - if they could make the 5 that thin they'd be on to a winner. Managed to order a Nexus 4 in the rush this morning, what I like about it is the longevity of a Nexus phone. My current phone is a Nexus S which will be 2 years old next month (about 50 in phone years) and yet it will probably get the Android 4.2 update next week. Same goes for this Nexus 4 - it will be the first to get the next 2 or 3 releases of Android and the hardware is powerful enough to cope. Given that LTE/4G is so expensive and won't be widely available until next summer the lack of that isn't an issue. Going to be a while before we get sensible prices for LTE - you're paying a premium for not very much unless you're streaming or tethering.

Understand the feeling against the Army, but its a strange stance for me - tens of thousands of NI lads died in both World Wars

Oooh, ta for that. Like a radio version of the Classic Albums series.

Basically an I Am Legend remake? Although to be fair IAL invented zombie plagues so every zombie movie is based on it

Hendrix supported by Pink Floyd at Pompey Guildhall November 1968 Would have loved to have seen Nick Drake as well And wish I'd told my Mum to stick it when she said I couldn't go and see Queen at Knebworth in 86. But you can only wish for stuff from your era and I look at the lists posted here and am thankful to have seen Stone Roses, Primal Scream, Nirvana, and Oasis in small venues (Joiners, Wedgie, Pompey Poly, and South Parade Pier for those) Biggest live event regret isn't even a gig, it's a trade show where Neil Armstrong spoke about the moon landing (extremely rare public appearance). Had chance to go but turned it down. Still completely gutted by that.

Pogues gig was epic, I think I still have bruises. Feel a little bit guilty the place got trashed but what were they thinking...
-
And Oasis, Suede, Charlatans, Dodgy, Carter, Ride, Primal Scream, Manic Street Preachers. Many many drunk Thursday nights spent there

Will be carnage if they both win their replays. Although equally likely that the away end will be empty, many of the AFC lot have sworn they'll never watch Franchise. A good friend is a founding member of AFC. Normally quiet, mild-mannered, and generally chilled out but when it comes to Franchise it makes Rangers v Celtic or Galatasary v Fenerbache look like a hippy love-in. Has already said he won't go, will be the first AFC game he's missed.

Just missed the chance to see the Jam live (bit too young at 12) but older cousins saw them and I had a good musical education as a result. To the point I remember exactly where I was when I heard they'd split - on the bus coming back from a school trip to the Natural History Museum. Our first Presley, Kennedy, or Beatles moment. Somehow I think I've managed to not see him live, might have seen the Wildwood tour but its a bit hazy...

Drive Safely now that winter is here - Don't end up like this lot!

Also, recently read an eye-witness account of the accident that killed the cyclist at the Olympic Park - its the sort of thing that will stop cyclists from riding aggressively. Bloke was alive for a few mins despite having been dragged up in to the wheel housing of the bus and had the lower half of his body crushed. Guy who was first on the scene stayed with him until he died, said there was utter terror in his eyes. -

Abiding memory of school is having the **** scared out of me by a train driver who came in to talk about what happened when he hit someone dicking about on the line (there was an open level crossing loads of kids used to get home so it was particularly relevant). Scared me so much for a while I'd walk best part of two miles to avoid crossing it. Remember it had a great (fake) picture of a kid running along a line with a train bearing down on him. Also my uncle was a serving fireman at the time (engine driver) who regularly hosed up the mess on the M3/M27 - being based out of Eastleigh they were often first on the scene and the first to find the body parts Got to love the '70s, it wouldn't be allowed now for fear of traumatising little Jonny... -
Better angle on here, really snaps his neck back and he wasn't prepared for it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TGjw0ln-Iw

I hate myself for saying it because (a) she's a Tory and (b) a skate (not entirely sure which is worst) but Ms Mordaunt clearly should be MP for Bristol East & West (oyo)

Survey went live a couple of days ago from KickItOut - worth having your say http://populuslive.spss-asp.com/ASP/P001557/flash2.asp?&device=desktop&manuf=generic&ismobile=n And the Torygraph have sent a letter to UEFA: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/england/9616504/After-hateful-scenes-at-England-U21s-Serbia-clash-enough-is-enough-an-open-letter-to-Uefa-president-Michel-Platini.html Given that they have charged Danny Rose and England with misconduct I can only hope they find us guilty and ban Danny for 3 matches (a reasonable expectation given what he did). Then in response I would hope the FA would finally grow a pair and refuse to play in the U21 finals next summer - we need a Basil D'Oliveira moment http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basil_D'Oliveira#The_D.27Oliveira_Affair

Love the SS-US, if there was one ship in all of recent history I'd liked to have sailed on its her. The Concorde of ocean liners, crazy feat of engineering.
-
She would cost an absolute fortune to maintain wet-docked, and the only dry dock she'd fit is way up in the container port. Unfortunately very little sentiment or compassion for old ships in the shipping trade (I work for P&O), the beautiful Saga Ruby got scrapped last year and she was a much better option for a hotel than QE2. As to other ships around the world, the United States is docked somewhere on the east coast of the US, and there is an old Holland America ship moored in Rotterdam harbour but that's about it. This is what we did to Canberra http://www.thecaptainslog.org.uk/Canberra1995/Gallery/CanberraScrap1w.jpg

Well that was prescient - 2 BMW 3-series stranded in the flood at Mountbatten Way this evening. Barely got the Golf through, recommend you avoid heading out that way unless someone has found a bloody big pump. Or you have a Defender with a snorkel like the guy who created Niagra falls heading right through the middle of it
