F**** me you're old, I only left home in 1989. From the FA cup win it seemed we were on a forever upwards trajectory which came crashing down in the 90's. The late 70's and 80's were great and one could really hold their own amoung all the Man U and Liverpool fans, we were graced with great players but we were always better as the sum of the parts and this is what made us so attractive to me. We got the best out of what we had, it seemed there was something special about us that magnifed the sum worth of the individuals to a greater collective worth. Since those days we have had some great players, players who really did prolong our stay in the top flight, MLT and MP are definately up there. However it seemed in the 70's and 80's that our team was full of top players, maybe it is age and seeing thing through kids eyes is more impressive than the drunked aged eyes. Or is it just a sad inditment of modern football that a club the size of ours wont be able to soar to the heights we achieved when I was a lad without the benefit of a rich backer. Oh hang on... oh when the saints, go marching in.

SFC is still in debt to all is supporters to tune of a couple of promotions , a cup run and a top ten prem finish and here is where they start paying ....in sweat

By forcing him to go on loan to Bristol City and slgging him off on the OS when he went, shameful, Lowe at his lowest.

I never liked Saints is the South, although I had one on my car, it always seemed grammatically incorrect. Also I got my tyre slashed on a back street in Tottenham whilst sporting the sticker. However I like your Saints Coast, only the really miserable amoungst us wouldn't like it.

Maybe players need to get a bit more realistic when so many people are having their wages frozen or cut.

Part 1 of a few - Dave Jones: No Smoke, No Fire

I understand it would have been a brave decision to stand by DJ, but I really don't think suspension was the only course of action. He always stated that the case would not have distracted from his job as he wanted to throw himself in work as a distraction from the case. This wasn't an accusation of a recent event, he wasn't caught somewhere he shouldn't have been, there wasn't any strange events he couldn't explain. He had been around football and youth teams for a long time with out any sort of trouble of this nature or even any rumours. So there was every reason to believe him and so there was reason to stand by him. No Lowe didn't make a mistake but he took the safest option. Maybe if we were not 2nd from bottom and maybe if Hoddle wasn't available Lowe may have been braver. Did we suspend Moran & Wright, a question as I can't remember how it was resolved. -

In country where some ones DNA found at a rape scene can not be used because of a technicality yet with no evidence other than the statements of a couple of criminals someone is hauled off to court and almost ruined. -

Don't agree with any of that, SFC could have stood up to the charges with contempt they deserved and the unfolding events would have shown that they were right. They could have put messures in place to distance DJ from any of the youth team activities but to suspend him was well over the top imho. -
Calm down dear, its dislike of a close rival that's all.

I went to a womens FA Cup final and had to leave at half time because the girlfriend was bored. Lack of male support get's blamed for the non-advancement of the women game, but in reality women are the gate keepers to men's free time, whilst most women are happy to let their blokes spend their free time down watching SFC most would draw the line to them watching WSFC as well.
-
What a load of old tosh, womens football is hardly ever on terrestrial tv. They put stuff on TV that some people might want to watch and I'm sure some people did watch it, the remit is not really trying to make you like it. blaming political correctness what a yawn.

Not too bothered about England, would enjoy a World Cup run for the atmosphere down the pub and to get one over the Welsh and Scots. But don't feel very connected to the England team, the Sheffield band playing God save the Queen and muppets signing no surrender turns me cold.

Interesting read, the average transfer fee is under £200,000 and only 17 transfers going for a fee (including compensation, undisclosed or tribunal). The difference in dropping two divisions is frightening.

According to http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=30498 the truth is somewhere inbetween, his stats are 133 starts 45 sub appearances 64 goals, so it all depends how you treat the sub appearances.

How damaging do you think the Pinnacle fiasco will be..?
Fan The Flames replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
No one really knows that even without the Pinnacle bid ML may still have taken as long to buy us. -
I think there are loads of questions still to be answered regarding the admin, I would be interested to know what the creditors got, I would also likle to know who were the original Pinnacle backers.
-
I think the only thing that could be leveled at Beattie was lack of natural talent. Which he made up with effort on the training and match pitch.
-
He's is 1 goal every 2 games, pretty good stats and given a run in the side and pair him up with the right strike partner and he should do well. A good old fashioned strike partnership would be fun this season. People always slagged Oakley, Fernandes and Telfer unfairly as well, nevermind as long as the manager is happy.
-
What did they do, can't remember them doing anything.
-
Yeah, best wishes

Great positive club, looking forward to the challenge. Loads of agents calling him, people must remember there is a credit crunch on. ML has a structured plan, points handicap to get over. SFC has everything apart from a good team, AP wants to maximise the academy. Teams need core leaders that can dig out of trouble and SFC lacked this last season, AP wants to introduce this. Group trained well today. Promotion still a possibility despite the -10, aims to get to zero points in 5 games, hopefully less.

Building a successful side has always revolved around buying the best and paying the most. So money has always been a factor in delivering success. But you could through good signings, training and youth set up at least compete with the bigger spenders. I agree the gulf has grown too wide and money is now the only thing that can bring success, football is slowly disappearing up its own arse.
-
But its an arms race where the few are leaving the rest of the pack behind. It has always been about money, but is was also about clubs building a side that could compete. This isn't the case now, Everton, Villa, Spurs won't break into the top 4 until someone finances them, that in my book is crap. One good thing that Man C having all this cash is it will knock one of the top four out of the top four, and it will be interesting to see how they cope without their now guarenteed dose of champ league cash
